  1. I completely agree with Dust...if it's not rolling off your tongue then you probably aren't ready for the streets. I just did my practical skills on Friday and passed...what i did was make note cards....on one side V-Fib on the other side i wrote my treatment and i did this for every rhythm out there. Since I was good at recognizing the rhythm but always messed up on the treatment. or you can put a rhythm strip on the front and treatment on the back...I took these note cards EVERYWHERE with me for about 3 weeks they were always in my purse. if i had 10 minutes to wait for a meeting or apt i would study them...in the line at the grocery store... Dubin's book is fantastic i know that most Barnes and Noble stores carry them. good luck!!
  2. when dispatch tells you to identify yourself as the pussy cats because the woman is insane and will only trust the pussy cats.... that was a fun one... or when the all male crew calls quarters to see if a female is there because they dont wanna deliver the baby....they got in trouble for that one
  3. CONGRATS AK! I am so happy for you and your boo!
  4. I take nitrile gloves for myself but they don't care. I ask them for it. Here our scrubs are machine locked so you need a combo and we only have an allowance for like 3 sets.
  5. Why would you let a basic with around 120hrs of didactic and very little practical, no A&P no Bio or Chem start a line that you had to go to school for 1000+hrs for? When I hopefully get my NR this fall... no friggin way am I letting a basic start a line...I worked hard for that skill and they didn't simple as that.
  6. I agree with Brian...the way I learned it in my Law class was this Assault=verbal threat of bodily harm Battery=physical contact resulting in bodily harm
  7. My EMT-B class was 120 hrs crammed into one month...5 days a week, 8 hrs a day...so it def. can be done...I have a green card to show for it too!
  8. sounds like some of the ride alongs we get here in d.c...
  9. true but yelling at them is more fun our method is put them under a ton of stress in the begining with drills and training...make them flustered and nervous and then once they realize they know what they're doin...they handle real calls much better....
  10. I had a newbie drop the cot on my foot because he said ready down when i wasn;'t looking and pulled the release...thank goodness no pt was on there but it hurt! We run a 6 week probie class for new volunteers where they learn the ropes and dont get to ride. They meet every friday night so its a good comitment and they have to do well and not miss a class...usually they are calm and chill when they finish...if not i yell at them when we get back to the house....i grew up in a military like house so yelling comes natural... tc everyone
  11. a box of condoms a hair brush a blow dryer and a bottle of motrin
  12. didn't I specifically say I wasn't bad mouthing UMBC? I am entitled to my opinion about their program.
  13. I specifically said I was in no way putting the program down...if it was was such a great program why is the department being investigated for not following procedure? I knew exactly what I was saying Joanna and I wasn't putting the program down, just informing people of the mentality some have of UMBC graduates. And I didn't not last a week I dropped out because of the way the department treated me and because they didn't follow the written procedures of the university. But that is all being handled by the lawyers now. I wasn't putting UMBC down in any way or form, I was just expressing my opinion of the program.
  14. I have heard really good things about the management track at UMBC. THeir paramedic program produces some of the most arrogant and stuck up medics I know. Just becareful of the mentality that comes with a BS in Paramedicine...out in the field they know their shit and are very book smart but very few I find are advocates for their patients. I am in no way putting down UMBC's program, I have a few friends there, but just becareful.
  15. I was riding third on a medic unit when we were responding to a code. we were making a left onto a major road when BOOM a wrangler t-boned us. we were going lights and sirens and she hit us. we get out and examine her...smell etoh like crazy ..she then admitted to the police that she had been a a party the night before, speeding, and not wearing a seat belt. She got charged with failure to yeild, speeding, driving w/o restraints, and reckless endangerment. then she failed to show up for court, gave false insurance to workmans comp has a claim against her for our injuries. stupid stupid people. she totalled the medic unit btw
  16. it's not assault though unless it's a verbal threat...its battery if you cause physical harm. assault=verbal threat battery=physical harm if we're going to be hypercritical of these people, at least get the legal terms right
