  7. Is dispatch another word for black hole? Funny you should post that!! our dispatch is a wonderful place even if It is a dark basment often refered to as "the hole!" It's truely not bad!!
  8. Tact is a careful consideration of one's current situation and surroundings, and acting accordingly. For example, with respect to interpersonal relationships, tact is a careful consideration of the feelings and values of another so as to create harmonious relationships with a reduced potential for conflict or offense. Tact in a military sense is the basis for tactics. An element is said to be tactical when their actions are in accordance with the military situation (presence or lack of enemy, illumination, inclement weather, etc). Tact is a form of interpersonal diplomacy. Tact is the ability to induce change or communicate hurtful information without offending through the use of consideration, compassion, kindness, and reason. For example, choosing an appropriate joke to entertain a small audience requires tact. Contrarily, a tactless joke is likely to make an audience angry or uncomfortable. Tact is a substitute for fact. 9. I work in an envoronment where memorization is key to what I do-- of coarse I sit 12 hours a day behind a console answering phone and dispatching helicopters........ but what I do is pull out the most common places we get called to and I draw maps to them--- over and over like a little kid that is bored with a box of crayons! Really it sounds stupid but the repitition and the different routs you can take and memorize the streets surrounding the main drag...... look for keys of repitition as well. In our town we have sections of roads that go as follows..... 1: numerical- 1st street through 8th street, east and west 2: States 3: Presidents last names 4: Female Names Learn what area keeps to which section of names for example If we get an ambulance call to Debra street we know we are going to the Morrison subdivision..... If the call is To Washington Ave I know I am going downtown.......ect.
  10. In MS It wouldnt suprise me!!
  11. Yeah---- come to think of it your right!!!
  12. I found this very helpful-- I took a call for a possible overdose- crew was trying to gleen what ever they could to be prepared on the flight to the pt-- I used what I just learned here to help the mother describ just what exactly the pt had Overdosed on............ (mother found daughter down in her own apartment where she resided alone)
  13. OK LIKE AN IDIOT!!!!! I clicked "HERE" while at WORK in the COM CENTER and my volume was cranked due to haveing to pull tapes (all lines recorded) and review a call...... So guess what all my comm center and every one they where on line with got to hear??? Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Take a look at your diet as well. Many foods we eat, can be harmful to us even if we don't get sick at our stomachs from eating them. My child was alergic to milk and as a nursing infant she had terrible upper resperatory problems, infections and such. Her skin was nasty scaley and ozzing behind her ears, knee's and elbo's. Once we discovered (by word of mouth) that food alergies play a hug part in asthmatic patients, she improved greatly! She eats dairy products in moderation however for YEARS she was a soy only baby. We didn't have to bother with the breathing treatments, inhailers, steriods........ It was SWEET!! Just food for thougth grain (wheat) alergies can be just as nasty..............
  15. Medlink to the Rescue-- We have in house RN in our comm Center and If our flight crews need assistance -- they simply call us over the radio and we get medlink- medlink looks up the protocal and or calls the Medical Director on line..... our HEMS crews never miss a beat with pt care.....
  16. Lacking English skills??? ( And to think I was grumbleing about the added part 135/91 addition to my job desription!)
  17. South Central Missouri near the Arkansas boarder, but I am from Tennesse born and raised near Nashville........
  18. AAhhh I posted not to long ago on wether or not you can force help on someone.... If they are not eating there is a reason why. Look for what is the cause and help them realize they need help if it is a detrimental thing. LOTS of things can cause not eating and the end result is not at all good......... Unles it is a spiritual reason..... then please respect that and don't question them..... if it truely is a spiritual reason you will not have to worry nor will you notice any changes. If they are not eating for other reason you will see it in their physical appearance........
  19. I am thankful for my Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ. I am thankful for the 3 beautiful children he blessed me with. I am thankful for the Job I have, the small rural town I live in, and the fact that I am able to make the most of both. I am thankful for a healthy body, good eyesight and good ears!! I am thankful I can get up each day and care for myself and my family, with out any assistance from any one! I am thankful for the 2 acer yard my children have to roam and play in. I am thankful that as a mother of 3 I can work 3 12 hour days a week and still be mommy. I am thankful that the Insurance is better than decent and that the pay is more than fair for the area I live in. I am thankful for the HEMS flight crews that get up every day and devote themselves to saving lives in Rural America and i am thankful I can be apart of it! Folks I could go on for days!! But I will spare you for now.......
  20. Now if I were you (and once upon a time I was) Just try try again with another service. When I was in EMT school, I had a terrible expericence with the local EMS provider. My sister in law worked there, and I thought I would be OK to do my internship and ride along time with them. Man, was I WRONG! They came after men like fly's on stink. EVERY thing I did they trumped it up to make me look superfical and bad. It was ruff and WRONG! I almost got kicked out of school altogether. And when I say EVERY ONE was against me I am not lying. My sister in law even got pissed due to all the flack she was getting for trying to defend me, so she just gave up trying to help me defend myself (as I WAS innocent and she new it!) she just bowed out gracfully and left me on my own. I did leave that agentcy and i drove 20 min. to the next town to complete my clinicals. I never had an issue one with them! They embraced me from the moment I arrived, and they apparently new i was comming. Not only did the previous agency try to get me booted from school they called ahead to folks they new in the next town and "told them all about me" How was that fair? Good for me the folks at the new agency had delt with this before- having been the saving grace for other EMT students. Apparently this first service feels that if THEY didn't think you where cut out for EMS THEY would right you off and get you canned for good. Being in a small rural area where every body knows every one it is easy for them to do. HOWEVER! I don't take lightly to being written off that easily and I fought back. I didn't give up, I drove the extra miles and put up a fight. I made it through EMT school being one of the very few that passed all my test first time out- No retesting for me! Not only did I get all my ride time in I continued to go and ride until I had to forfeit all my extra time to other students trying to meet their quota of calls.......... I proved myself and maybe you should try again with another service. IF you find the same results then I suggest you listen to the voices of expericence spoken above-- and look deeper withen yourself!!
