I would have to say that is unfortunate. I never realized Australia was so backwards and maybe I should appreciate what we have here in the States a little bit more. Fortunately you are still young and can work on your education because that is everything. Good luck.

or perhaps none backwards by restricting the practice of none professionally qualified 'trainers' ( i.e. not a physiotherapist or a qualified teacher with subject specialism as a Sports / phys ed teacher) from attempting to practice as a professional

that said the fact the trainer 2 ticket referred to is a FE qualification indicates a degree of attainment even if the practical role is felt to be limited

I agree, elite level sport have appropriate medical care eg doctors, surgeons, physios, chiros, exercise physiologists ect ect but at grass roots sport things are a little sad but that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. Paramedics are only a phone call away.

  • 1 month later...

I ride with a volunteer squad in my town in NY state. I work as a Medical Assistant at a local doctor's office and as a Lifeguard/ Swim Instructor on weekends. I started out with a First aid & CPR class at college and through my husband (then boyfriend) I became a lifeguard, swim instructor, volunteer EMT, EMS dispatcher. My brother-in-law helped me get an interview at one doctor's office and from there I went to the office I currently work for. I enjoy the medical field and training new members, but have found that at least where I am, being a paid EMT is not great at all. (A lot of medics I knew are making less than my husband will potentially be making when he becomes a journeyman, and the EMT's make less than he's making as an apprentice now - very sad considering what they do!). I am now considering a possible change into accounting, we'll see what happens!

Uhhh... you do realise that YOU are the reason that an EMT cannot make a living wage, right? :?

You just said that you give it away for free. So why exactly would anybody think that is worth paying for?

Do the math.

Everything I do, I get paid for... if not... why do it? My wife is running out of money though... I charge for everything.
