  1. I Agree this kind of behavior is intolerable and AK you should alert the proper people. Be it this kids' instructors, employers, supervisors, etc. Whether or not you want to reveal him to the city is your business but his actions are a detriment and disgrace to EMS and he should have some kind of retribution for his actions whether from his instructors/employers -suspension from whatever program he is in or fired or just reamed by the city. :?

  3. Ok you obviously don't no Ca Ca about mental illnesses...do you really think people with a mental illness likes to live that way --do you think they chose their illness? so if they could only" grow some balls" they could get better. Wow the American Psychiatric Association could really use a man of your insights and intelligents. Of all the people they've tried to cure with medicine and therapy--when only they had to grow a couple of hairy ones.
  4. Awww i think im gonna... ... :pukeright: j/k 8)
  5. obviously we need more education, as for the solution for now well um the hospital i work in, when we get psych pts in ER ( we don't have psych services in house) so we call whats called comp services or social services. They have a person an call 24 hours to go out and talk with the patient who is in need of mental health care and then place them as needed in appropriate facility. I'm not sure if it would be prudent for us to call them to the scene on certain cases or not. Or maybe take it out of our hands all together and let the 911 center deal with that decision if they get a mental health call they automatically place a call into the social services to respond with ambo and police,, or maybe thats just way tooo much! over thinking  My husband has his masters in social work in mental health--He is actually a counselor for a community resource center--I'll see if he has an opinion either way.
  6. Remember 3 in. tape is pretty wide and i tear off a pretty good size(about palm size or a little bigger) and then it's my notes so i abbreviate or write shorthand or whatever the point is i've been doing this long enough i should know what my own note taking system means and as for the people who have a million meds well take their list (if they have one and copy in ER) or i've been handed a shopping bag full of meds before , you just have to look through to see what are the pertinent ones then at ER worry about sorting through the rest. And yes i go off memory also , You learn what personally you tend to forget on calls so thats what you need to write down it's different for everybody. Easy call/short run go off memory most likely. It's just a little trick i learned long ago it may not work for you but it one less thing you have to worry about losing because it's taped right to your thigh . I always had to dig through the truck ( or the trash or i forgot and threw my glove away)trying to find my notes before i started this.
  7. Yes ---I used to do the write on the back of glove thing but i quickly learned how messy that could get trying to handle my used glove after ive washed my hands, bad habit to start and unsanitary. I usually lost that little strip of EKG paper before i got to ER, and someone else mentioned having FD write down stuff for you on scene, but unless they ride in with you they usually wander off and forget to give you the notes they took for you. So, I found 3 inch strip of tape on the thigh is the best way to go.
  8. :sleepy2: ummm I just got my flu shot at work and all the lights went out and the emergency generators came on then the fire doors slammed shut and the alarms went off simultaneously. Is that two men dressed in black suits? How did they get in the hospital this late and now? Wait what are you doi... :sleepy2: snort :sleepy2: , Yawn , oh thank God i'm sorry i was just dreaming i was some crazy lunatic conspiracy theorist who thinks the gov't is out to get me through my flu shot. 8) I really did get my flu shot at work and nothing happened we have the choice to opt out. As an educated health care professional (RT in the hospital and a Paramedic in the field) I feel i should get a flu shot. Anything to help protect the immunocompromised patients or any other patients i deal with on a daily basis i feel its my duty to help protect them and also myself and family at home.
  9. Two pens? One dirty, one clean. I cant even make it through a shift, hell usually a call without losing my one pen. A little trick i use for taking down vitals if notepad is not available, is a strip of 3 inch tape on your thigh. Good for multiple patients / or messy scene.
  10. We all talk in here about what its going take to make EMS a true respectalble profession. And I agree with everyone. But how does this actually get done. Who is going to break down the system as a whole and restructure it. Can it be done across the board ( The United States)? Who has to take the first step?
  11. This Question is for akflightmedic. Several people have posted they would (or to ) turn on the flood lights to deter a tailgater ( which i have to admit i have done  ). If this causes an accident with the person behind you to run off the road because you just blinded them --or even if you didn't cause an accident, isn't it just illegal to use your side and rear flood lights while moving and not on an emergency?
  12. I Agree with Rydryder, Also I think If given a situation where an ALS trained Paramedic cannot go any further in their treatment, or maybe they are "stumped" so to speak on what to do next, or you just don't have the proper diagnostic equipment in the field to do what you need to do ( or really what we are trained for but may know what the pt may need) We can just treat the patient to the furthest ALS care necessary and then back to the basics until transfer of care. (IV fluids/drugs Cardiac/pacing/cardiovert/Airway/Et/or just plain CPR etc..Or provide comfort support/pain meds O2 etc.. I mean not that we would stop giving the ALS care that is already being given but there is no other option in our scope of training -so maybe thats where they get go back to the basics which any Paramedic worth anything would not stop giving BLS care ( Vitals ,O2, etc..) to begin with I think thats what they mean-- I don't know, any other thoughts?
  13. Honey, I'm 31 years old and i've been doing this for 11 years I would have a hard time with seeing that. There is not one of us who wouldn't. :?
  14. Ok if this is how it's gonna be.. Why did the monkey fall out of the tree? :dontknow: ---------------->Because he was dead. :laughing3:
