  1. Oh, we're in stealth mode! We'll be number one! We'll sneak in with a giant wooden star of life. [spoil:a5040e6a35][/spoil:a5040e6a35]
  2. Well, it is the East Coast's forest fire season. We have to dig fires out all the time, usually by hand. Peat bogs, etc. It's a common fire in New England and the rust belt. Skid-Steer's, backhoes, et al, come in handy. Nothing like sinking knee deep in fire.
  3. It will still be an issue ten years from now, if it hasn't worsened by then.
  4. I'm getting page one. Maybe we need to start with numerics and alphabetical? eg 1 A 2 B EMT; 1 A EMT 2 B, 1 EMT A 2 B. Etc.
  5. http://www.regional-ems.org/ a division of http://www.rocklandparamedics.org/
  6. That's actually not a bad idea.. When I poked my hole through the wall for the scanner antenna, I used a long piece of metal and a hammer. I drilled one end, then figured that even if I measured, I couldn't line it up properly. So, I stuck in a metal pole, equal to the size of a quarter inch wooden dowel... and whacked it. Perfect hole. Then I just drilled through the siding and filled in around the wire. Huh, I could have saved a bunch of time, if I had a gun... :? [spoil:9510d76b95]Of course, even I'm not that stupid. My luck, it would prolly bounce off a pipe, and come back at me.[/spoil:9510d76b95]
  7. Guess that would go against smoking while using oxygen, eh?
  8. It's times like these, that I wish I were Amish, lived off the land and had no need for a vehicle. But the way it will affect prices of delivered products or products that require petroleum to be farmed, you'll be screwed either way.
  9. If the patient is able/willing to sign, I have them sign it.. Just in case.
  10. Your next ten calls will be 300+ lb cardiac arrests..
  11. $2,369.00 -- For that black thing w/ the wires, only. Several different companies make the exact same thing.
  12. The palm pilot appears to be just one of the many devices the Universal EKG Doohickey attaches to. The adapter appears to be the highlight of the product. http://www.dremed.com/catalog/documents/universal_ecg.pdf
  13. Yanno.. It has been slow and quiet! I am bored.. and rural boredom is dangerous!
  14. Only in your 50's.. Best time to take up a new career... Most of the EMT's I know are older than 50. I actually know several EMT's that are older than 70... Doesn't stop them. One was at least 76 when he became an EMT. No, I'm not kidding, yes I see where that could go wrong, no I don't have a proactive stance on it, no I don't care. I think that should clear up any questions, just find the one that best answers the one you have.
  15. No.. That's even more unprofessional than "Bus". [spoil:d19e410e29]Hearse.. BTW. [/spoil:d19e410e29] Off topic..... Kind of. A town elder related a story. In the 1930's, the funeral home in town had two Hearses; black and white. They felt it was bad Karma to pick someone up in the black Hearse. So, they bought a second Hearse, white in color, and called it an Ambulance.
  16. Fire chief in this area was reprimanded by the Communications Director for calling his ambulance a "gut box" on the air. Never calls it an ambulance, only says "wagon", not it's designator. I'm up for the occasional goof off, but constant ignorance and unprofessionalism on the air makes his whole organization look bad, more so in the eyes of the providers. Even though I wouldn't doubt it if 1 in 3 members of the general public had scanners and listen to every word we say on the air. I either say Ambulance X, or just their numbers; no reason to goof around when we're out in public, on any sort of emergency or NonE mission. I get hounded for it a lot, but I expect nothing but high standards of care and a professional attitude when on any kind of call. Fooling around by the officers, makes the team look amateur and incompetent.
  17. The Jordan Frame doesn't look like a well constructed device..? Is it like a break-away flat? Just for moving a person? Because it looks like the person can move around quite a bit.
  18. Clearly a typo.. On that note.. We use a fire blanket, cause ya never know what you're cutting into with these new cars!
  19. Nope.. If they require to be towed by the RTV or the SnoAid Sled... and they need CPR, they're officially DOA.
  20. Got one of these on your back?
  21. Total geekage. Incidentally, they are really cheap on eBay.
  22. That was a general list. You can leave the ear plugs at home.. But you never know when they might come in handy. Gloves, boots, suit, helmet, goggles. I wear all those when we're extricating a patient. There are always pieces of glass and metal flying around, unknown fluids, heavy tools being dropped. I feel that Rescue and EMS sort of go hand in hand. If you're cross trained, and responding with an agency that provides both EMS and Rescue. It might be necessary to come prepared to provide said services.
