  1. Our province wide frequencies splooge out some morse code once in a while. I think it's some sort of identifyer.
  2. Littman Master Classic, but I almost always forget it in the truck and end up using the el-cheapo we keep in our bags. It works just as well.
  3. Talk to the crew about it, express your concern in a non-accusitory way. Why is there a 6-pack in your station in the first place? Don't accuse anybody of anything without evidence.
  4. If you're the only person trained in 02 administration, can you remove the tanks from all of the first aid stations and keep them somewhere safe, then respond to any emergencies with a airway bag that contains a canister?
  5. Can you provide a little bit more info on the company? Is it safe to assume these oxygen tanks are for medical use? First response? How many floors are there? How many response teams are there? Are the tanks at first aid stations? Would it be reasonable for the first response teams to keep the tanks with them while responding? The above was based purely on speculation. It would help if you could provide more info on the situation/layout etc.
  6. Just in case you've forgotten: (NSFW, occasional inappropriate ads) http://linkthe.com/out/13781/
  7. 1. Will Hunting type memory for all EMS workers 2. Better safety standards for US Air-Evac 3. Standardization of Education levels internationally with high standards
  8. Where's the tractor now? Is it going to come back and run us over? Hold C-Spine Check Airway Check Breathing Check Circulation Quick full body check for further injuries/bleeding and then we'll go from there.
  9. An RPN once told a patient that I was a taxi.
  10. Two ambulance services named BALS and DIC eh? This has MJ&S written all over it. Who knows, maybe it will be a decent tribute to it, or just a crap-tacular mess. If it DOES come to theaters, I'll give it a shot.
  11. Does he work straight nights, or 2 weeks nights/2 week days?
  12. This one sends a cold chill down my spine http://www.madd.ca/english/research/madd2.mpg
  13. Okay, now I'm all confused... Yes, I'm 20, almost 21. I'm the BLS kind of Paramedic, you know, PCP. I don't wear the medic alert to get dates, I wear it because I have a genetic blood clotting disorder.
  14. I wear one. You never know when it's going to come in handy. It speaks for me when I can't. [/ad]
  15. You can defib till the cows come home, but unless that airway is clear, your patient is toast. The blocked airway is the cause of the arrest, so you won't be able to fix it unless you fix the blocked airway. Like scaramedic said, assess ABCs, and then when you have the whole picture treat. The unconscious foreign body airway obstruction procedure includes CPR now anyway.
  16. Just say VSA, it gets the point across better any day.
  17. It varies. We average 2 calls a day under normal circumstances, but my town is an evacuation center, so our population has a tendancy to double. The population spur wouldn't be such a problem, but the evacuees often get quite... rowdy... Especially if they come from a "Dry" area where alcohol is banned, and then get their hands on some when they get to our town. Drugs and violence are also problems with evacuees. Call volumes can triple, quadruple, or more.
  18. Our shifts run 2000-0800 on call, followed by a day shift of 0800-2000 on site. Every 12 hours on site has a complementary on call during wich there is no staff on site. Chute time goals for on site is 1:30, and for on call is 7:59 We are paid 2.50/hour for on call with a minimum of 4 hours time and a half (just under $40/hr) if we get called out during our on call. It's a good deal when it's slow, not so good when we're busy.
  19. Just curious, and I mean no disrespect, but did anybody else learn this in highschool?
  20. I was born and raised in South Western Ontario, and I used to think Algonquin park was the far north. Now I live North of Thunder Bay. I hear you man...
