The only weapon a paramedic really needs, common sense enough to stay out of danger, it's worked for me for almost 30 years.

I have no experience with shools in Alberta, but there was one comment you made that caught my eye. That is that the CCEMS was going to apply for CMA Accreditation. It is important, especially if you plan to look for work out side Alberta. One point of caution, accreditation is not retroactive. This means you have to be an active student when the accreditation process is in place and granted. If you graduate before CMA makes it recommendation then your class is not accredited. Don't let CCEMS let you think otherwise. I have been involved in several accreditation's for schools in eastern Canada, and I know this for a fact. Good luck with your EMS education. OM

Qualifications: Candidates must have graduated from an accredited/recognized diploma or degree program in health care or an equivalent combination of advanced training and experience that provides the necessary theoretical and clinical skills to perform at the level of Advanced Care Paramedic, Critical Care Paramedic, Nurse Practitioner, Post Basic Critical Care Nurse, or Post Basic Emergency Nurse. Candidates must also be certified in: CPR, ACLS, BTLS, PALS, NRP. Ideal candidates will also have a minimum of 3 years current experience as either an Emergency care or Critical nurse; or accredited Advanced Care Paramedic or Critical Care Paramedic with a minimum of 3 years experience in a high volume performance-based system. Candidates must also possess highly developed interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication skills, knowledge of pharmacology as well as effective decision making skills. Candidates must meet physical and medical requirements in accordance with established industry standards. A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
