  1. *sigh* This is too true! I still can't convince anyone that I am more southern than they are because I was born in Hawaii! All my friends call me a yankee because my parents are from PA. Guilt by association-so unfair!
  2. Hmmm, have you been off your meds? Someone give her some clozapine or Risperdal, quick!
  3. I would say -15 for the post and -5 for leaving out some better choices of music.
  4. This was just an unfortunate tragedy where the tornado happened to hit the school. If they released everyone, there probably would have been more deaths. I don't agree with the school's decision to not let parents who showed up to take their children. If a parent wants to take the child out of school, then let them go. The school is released from liability and the parent can take the child wherever he feels is safe. The author is an idiot. We have to have some sort of disaster plans in place or there would be more people killed during each event with mass chaos as someone said before me.
  5. My first call was a single car MVA that went off the road and into a pole in a ditch. The car was toast, but she was fine and the boyfriend had run off, because he caused the accident.
  6. Gosh you picked a really tough one  ...sure you don't want something else?
  7. Holy crap, what happened to this thread? I don't look at it for a couple days and now people are deciding that education is a waste of time and not necessary? I agree that experience is invaluable, but obtaining a "piece of paper" means you can read, write, speak correctly, and think critically. It really ticks me off when people find out I have an education and they ask "Why would you want to be in EMS if you have a degree?" That is one of the biggest problems with this profession. We're seen as an emergency taxi service with education from some tech program at a community college (that's if you didn't take the "medic in 4 weeks course" by mail). You want respect from other healthcare professionals? Have some respect for yourself and colleagues and strive to be better! Ignorance breeds more ignorance.
  8. The military has to find creative ways to fight the war as the Democrats demand more budget cuts...
  9. Hmmm, after the day I had yesterday...I want to see Tigger dressed as a doctor or a nurse. I would have much rather dealt with him than some of the real docs and nurses we have.
  10. In my district of the county it's seizures, chest pains, and hypoglycemia.
  11. I carry my own shears, a small notepad, and a couple pens-one for the pts and one for me w/a stylus to use on my toughbook.
  12. SCORPIO:. The sex addict Can be mean. EXTREMELY sexy. Intelligent. Energetic. Predict future. Most erotic. (Freak in bed.) (GREAT kisser.) Always get what they want. Sexy. Attractive. Easy going. Loves being in long relationships. Talkative. The sexiest ever....Romantic. Caring. Yep, that's me, but I don't *always* get my way. That's when I get mean! lol
  13. BS-Sociology BS-Psychology Was working on my MS but took a break to work and get my Paramedic cert. I wanted to do Sociology of Healthcare, but that's not offered where I live.
  14. I think you should have a two-year degree just to be an EMT-B. Paramedic programs should be four years.
  15. Our service uses laptops, but over half the crews don't even take it with them in their trucks when they go on calls. This is just another over-priced device-interesting idea, but not much beyond that. As previously mentioned, if the patient has a significant medical problem that he wants others to know about, he will normally have a medic alert bracelet on or the info in his wallet.
  16. I working in a diverse county system where you can work a fast-paced urbanized setting one shift and be bumped out to po-dunk the next. I personally hate working rural-for the most part it sucks. However, some of our worst calls are in the rural parts, so when a bad call comes in, it's very bad. I don't think there is any EMS that can justify not having a paramedic on staff-they'd be crazy to do that. Billy Bob out in the sticks can have MIs too-what is BLS going to do about that?
  17. My next favorite would have to be the cop one. If I had a trunk, I'd definitely want a trunk monkey.
  18. I know this isn't new, but it's just too funny to not share. Maybe it's the lack of sleep or the fact that I just got off a double today, but I was falling over laughing.
  19. That's a little over the top. That would be fine for the groom's cake, but c'mon, the wedding cake?
  20. I would stop at a scene where no emergency workers are present yet. It would have to something where they would obviously need some assistance. I wouldn't personally stop at a scene where EMTs or medics are already present, unless it was in the jurisdiction of the service that I work for. Just b/c you have orders to do your skills at your service doesn't mean it would hold the same for the scene you're stopping at to help-too much liability. The emergency workers present should have the training where they will know how to deal with the situation and have additional units en route if needed.
  21. Quiz Show Contestant Wow, it realized how intelligent I was w/just my name! I could make more money playing Jeopardy than working in EMS!
  22. I agree, the entire movie is awesome. How about this one: It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.
  23. At least most of yours was done in your ignorant youth. There's probably some on here that racked up fines just last week!
  24. Office Space Bob: Looks like you've been missing a lot of work lately. Peter: I wouldn't say I've been missing it, Bob! Napoleon Dynamite Could you bring me my chapstick...my lips hurt real bad! Boondock Saints Just pour the drink, you fairy f***! Pulp Fiction English, mother f***er-do you speak it? I know that's more than one..but I couldn't decide which was my favorite.
  25. $670...but there's always room to grow..
