  1. Problem is though.. this guy seems like he doesn't care. Taking his license away doesn't make him incapable of driving. He just isn't allowed to. Annie.. I just had a thought.. what about one of those on-board breathalysers. You need to blow into it before you can start the car and if you don't "pass" the car won't start for a certain amount of time before you can test again.
  2. If you want to get drunk and drive... then drive your car into a tree, more power to you. I won't stop you. But... when you potentially put other people at risk, that is where I draw the line.
  3. He was drunk... therefor unable to "decline" treatment/transport. Get him to the hospital and make the appropriate notifications to social services to get him treated for alcoholism. With his prior history of being intoxicated.. it might actually go some where. Otherwise, you have to get him to admit to driving drunk. or just remove all the valvestems from his tires if you see him parked at a bar.
  4. Back in the day I used to text/talk, smoke a cigarette, and eat while driving a 5spd; miracle I am not dead.. although some might disagree
  5. Link is broken... but if what you are saying is the same as what I am thinking... what a waste of fuel!
  6. You mean to tell me "rm -rf /bin/etc/src/records" isn't the proper command to save them to backup?
  7. This is why as EMS professionals we need to prove our professionalism and fight for better pre-hospital care. The more we can do pre-hosptial, the better the patient. I agree with all else you were saying, which is kind of what my rambling was going towards. We are also expected to be enroute to the hospital within 10minutes of arriving on scene. A lot of the time, this is quite possible. I like to do my assessment on scene, vitals, IV, BGL, etc etc. It doesn't take long. But again, this is all situational and depends on the patient. Sometimes you can't sit around. Rushing yourself through things is no good for anyone, especially the patient. The more you rush, the more you will forget to do. Taking your time TO A CERTAIN EXTENT is always how I operate. If it takes me a minute or so longer to package a patient, so be it. There have been times when I was a student.. where we would be on scene for 30mins. The medic wanted to do everything short of a CT scan on scene. There have been other medics where if you attempted to start an IV on scene you were told to stop and go wait in the ambulance. Everything was done in the ambulance, usually when it was moving. This, I did not totally agree with in most circumstances. I was told "we have to get them to the hospital quickly before time runs out" *shrugs*
  8. Generally the employer should be covering the kind of insurance. At least that is always how it worked for me. Only had to carry liability insurance if I were to be doing firefighting instructing.
  9. It hurts my elbow if I hold the phone up to my ear too long. I probably shouldn't talk and drive either... one could be distracted by the conversation or worse.. by your driving and not hearing what your gf or whatever is saying. Sometimes I would rather crash than feel the wrath of a women for "not listening"
  10. I do not like the idea of the "Golden Hour". This causes people to rush more than they should just so he/she can get their patient to the hospital within the time frame. Don't get me wrong... quick is better, but teaching providers they need to do it all within an hour is just plain silly. If a patient is that bad from an injury, 61mins doesn't mean they will die/get worse, 120mins doesn't mean they will get worse either, nor does 10mins mean they will be alright. Every patient is different, every call is situational. We need to provide the best care possible in appropriate time frames, but not race to beat the clock of 60minutes.
  11. Not really a test on texting and driving. Just a test to see if you can multitask. Simple to look over briefly and press the number for the gate and click the letters you want to type. Texting and driving is stupid though... I used to do it and noticed I would probably die if I kept doing it. Talking and driving is different... I use a blue toof ear piece, never had any problems.
  12. They stole it from one of the Dos Equis commercials. The most interesting man interesting man in the world is really the one that sharks dedicate a week to.
  13. I have been to numerous fires.. inhaling smoke happens. I try my best to avoid it. A lot of the time I won't even put my mask on until I am in the building and encounter smoke. In cases like this... I would still avoid inhaling it since it will impair myself and potentially make me laugh as stupid shit when I need to focus. I doubt this guy got into any sort of big trouble. Probably at the most just a talking to for being on camera looking like a jackass.
  14. you are only like 2hrs away from me... want to come over for some hands on assessments?
  15. I am sorry to inform you guys.. But I have taken ill and I am will sign away my personal finances, CDs, and stocks. The first person to send me their banking info, ss#, and other personal information needed will be awarded the money. ps... don't actually send me anything... idiots
  16. Everything with the taskbar chat seems to be working fine for me. People pop-up when they come online and go offline. No problems with chatting with people either. If you change the theme... it makes it a bit hard to see though.
  17. you should rephrase that.. "which one of you didn't make him mad"
  18. Agreed. If my roof needs repair.. I have to pay to get it fixed. If I get a flat tire, I have to pay to get it fixed. If some asshat gets lots in the woods.. they should have to pay for being looked for.
  19. Although I throughly enjoy doing what I do.. but I am not a charity. I expect to be paid for my services. If I am out saving your ass for 15hrs because you are a dumbass.. I expect payment for time and effort. If you get hurt from a twisted ankle while hiking and I have to come fetch you out.. I expect to be paid for my time. I am not a rich person nor do I expect to become rich. This however is my job. I need to be paid so I can have a roof over my head and food in my belly. Also, like others have said, cost of using equipment is expensive and stuff gets worn out. Once you use a rope for a rescue, it can no longer be used for rescue again. Who is going to pay for replacement rope? Should the service pay for it? No! If they did, they would go broke and then no longer have any equipment and then no one to come rescue anyone.
  20. I agree that someone should be billed for rescue operations. This can be justified in a few ways. Mainly, fuel is not free. Supplies are not free. Rescuers need to mobilize with vehicles. Many of them respond in various types of vehicles; be it ATVs, pickup trucks, helicopters or airplanes. Fueling these is not cheap. Supplies that rescuers use are also not cheap. They need to be fed while our searching. Equipment used to keep themselves safe and from being lost themselves can cost quite a bit of money as well. If these services for free, how would fuel and supplies be paid for? In fact, how would rescuers be paid? A free service is never actually free anyway. You will ultimately pay for it in taxes. If services such as SAR are offered free of charge, then taxes will thusly need to be raised so services can stay in service and mobilize.
  21. Public education. Strict enforcement/consequences. Better parenting! You can't cure stupid Richard.. you can only try your best to stay one step ahead of the idiots.
