  1. Sorry Jaime, I was having a discussion with Lisa regarding the antics of some on here. Your input is welcome though, so long as you keep it civil. If you had wanted the thread to form some sort of position, you might want to consider posting more than a simple link to a news story rather than respond with attitude to a response which empathises with the officer. To me, Lisa's comment was in complete association to the news story you posted as she expressed her understanding, if even in a small way, of how that officer felt. So, why did you post the article without a comment to give direction to the thread? To bring attention to the fact someone appreciated the efforts of the paramedics? To bring attention to the fact that these medics acted selflessly? To bring attention to the fact that it was a dangerous act and they risked themselves? There are any number of ways this thread could have gone after you started it. If you don't want people making particular comments in a thread you started, then put some effort in rather than a simple cut and paste and make an actual comment.
  2. I didn't think you were, but there are those on here who just feel the need to compensate for their own inadequacies and demean their peers to elevate their own status in their eyes. It is really too bad.
  3. What are you saying Syphilis? That Lisa's appreciation of the people who cared for her is not so sincere as that of Cst. Czapnik because her medical emergency wasn't quite as severe? That is how I interpret your comment. All she is stating is that she appreciated the efforts of the paramedics who treated her and can empathize with the appreciation that this officer felt. There are enough medics out there who bitch and moan that ours is a thankless job, it doesn't help matters when our peers belittle those who express their appreciation for a job well done.
  4. Syphilis, have you ever tried shutting off that switch without the keys in the ignition? It simply shuts the vehicle off. Same as the Demers model with the switch on the console. As far as door locks go, many ambulances are also equipped with a hidden exterior switch which unlocks power door locks, in case the crew unwittingly locks themselves out. At least in this theft the driver left the keys in the unlocked ambulance. LOL
  5. If I might suggest, get the Wii Fit Plus. It has all of the routines as the Wii Fit but includes several additional options such as personalized routines and more fun games. Over a 3 month period I used the Wii Fit faithfully and did every yoga and strength exercise once a day with very few missed dates. It took about two hours (mostly commentary by my trainer) but I lost 20 pounds and 3 inches off my waistline. The newer Wii Fit Plus allows me to skip all the commentary and I can get through the routines in less than an hour. Edit: I'll also admit that I didn't change my diet all that much, still ate what I liked, maybe occasionally reduced the amount of intake, but still lost weight. I was thrilled when the Wii Fit Plus came out.
  6. My bad, I just posted the first story i read. Here are a couple more with further info. To answer your question Dust, Gregson was still an RCMP officer who was on unpaid suspension and dismissed from the force, but he appealed his dismissal and therefore, technically, is still an RCMP officer. Story with no confusing pictures RCMP Statement I was more interested in the actions of the paramedics than the current employment status of the attacker. Once a cop, always a cop.
  7. OTTAWA — Ottawa police have charged Kevin Gregson, 43, an RCMP officer in Ottawa, with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Ottawa Police Const. Ireneusz ‘Eric’ Czapnik on Tuesday morning. The suspect was subdued by two nearby paramedics and quick-thinking bystanders, Chief White said. Read More Here
  8. So, HockeyGod, ya gotta ask youself: Why is Syphilis not working in a location close to where Dad lives? Why is there an ACP from California up in Alberta rather than back in California? Seems to me there is a valuable resource and a wealth of information written between those lines.
  9. [quote name='typ3' date='22 December 2009 - 09:10 PM' timestamp='1261534258' post='231683' As for the labour problems in BC, I'm confident that voters will *eventually* realize the importance of their EMS system and fund it adequately. I love BC, this is my home, so I want to stay here. Many thanks
  10. Way back last month you were notified? Then you definitely were a replacement for someone. I was offered my spot back in 2008 and already spent 10 days orienting at the Sliding Centre. I'm sorry I can't be much help to you, but VANOC is supposed to be arranging accommodations for you. If you like, PM me we your venue details, and if I'm able to offer you some insight and e-mail addresses to VANOC members responsible to assist I'll pass it along.
  11. There should be places available. I am assuming that your friend is working in the Whistler area since he needs a place on the highway. Just tell VANOC that they can give your medic the place I was supposed to stay in since I told them to go F*** themselves last month after what they pulled. I was posted at the Whistler Sliding Centre....any chance he's my replacement? I wasn't posted in a medical capacity that would have scabbed BCAS either, but they can still go F*** themselves.
  12. Sounds like you're making a party wagon out of an old ambulance. Have you tried the other auction sites like kijiji? Have you called Horton up to see if they might still have the user manual?
  13. I am very disappointed, but my lovely wife is taking me to Jamaica for a couple of weeks during the games to cheer me up.
  14. You want my autygraff? I was gonna be at the Olympics...but not no more.
  15. Yeah, I've tried contacting the company through their website to obtain further information, twice. No response. I guess they are selling enough of them that they don't need my money.
  16. What was the other thing? You said there were a couple.
  17. I've been told by physio control that application of high flow O2 via a NRB over the nasal sensor would not result in inaccurate readings. www.capnography.com has great info.
  18. I use it every chance I get, it's a useful tool. By using technology it allows one to be comfortable and proficient in its use. The waveform on etCO2 provides the opportunity to evaluate changes in the condition of the patient that may not be immediately apparent. In addition, when one interprets the wave forms properly, identification of the exact cause of the respiratory distress can be determined more accurately and a more appropriate treatment can be provided.
  19. Our province switched to midazolam a couple of years ago with the intention of removing diazepam and haldol. Then some wise guy came along and informed the powers that be that versed is not indicated for treatment of seizures. Now we have to also carry Ativan. Then, it was determined that anyone who has received diazepam while in hospital must be continued on diazepam rather than switched to another benzo, so now we still have Valium, but are supposed to use Versed for sedation and Ativan for seizures. Commodore, if you can pass along that research, I'd love to get my hands on it so we can lose the Ativan.
  20. [whine]BUT I CAN'T!!!![/whine] It's like a train wreck...no matter how grotesque it is, one just can't tear one's eyes from the carnage. <aybe if we ignore it, it'll go away.
  21. Damn you all!!!! You medics just had to keep watching this turd bucket of a show to see how bad it could actually get AND NOW WE CAN`T GET RID OF IT!!!!! Well done.
  22. Chuckle...this thread reminds me of a doc I gave grief to a few weeks back...in hindsight, I probably should have reported her. She was a locum at a nearby hospital which called my ALS service for transfer of a post arrest patient. When we arrived to transport her she was tubed with a King tube because the doc was too uncomfortable in using an ETT. The report I got was that the woman came in by ambulance after losing consciousness at the breakfast table. Just after arrival at the hospital it was determined she was in PEA. (She still had a blood pressure of 170/90 and sats of 97% on high flow O2) The doc runs the code and administers 1mg 1:10,000 epi IV. Remarkably, she has a pulse!! Go figure. The patient's heart rate hits 150 so the doc turns around and slams her with adenosine.... When I assessed the patient I notice her fixed and dilated right pupil and ask the doc if her diagnosis happened to include the cerebral hemorrhage this lady was having and if she was being sent to the neurologist instead of the CCU. She died the next day.
  23. I've received my schedule for the Sliding Centre, there are 8 docs, 5 nurses, 2 Athletic Therapists, and 23 EMRs, the majority of which are medics from outside the BC area. If I recall correctly, Whistler is serviced by two ambulances. When I was there last February for the Bobsleigh events they had to send one out from Vancouver to stay at the track while the Whistler ambulances continued with the regular task. When we had an injury requiring transport the Whistler unit would come and intercept the Vancouver unit so it could stay on station. I'm not sure though if they will do the same when they have three ambulances there from Vancouver though. That's just the sliding centre though, there are also the other venues with medical staff. The replacements VANOC is talking about are the ambulances that will be posted at each venue for spectator and athlete transport. My understanding is that the Sliding Centre is supposed to have three on station, but if members start calling in sick there will be no one to staff them.
