  1. I will, no doubt, have a significantly reduced scope of practice at the Olympics and preceding events, and I'm fine with that. I am expecting o end up essentially as a first aid provider with mundo assessment skills. I'll learn more about my role and responsibilities over the next few weeks though.

  6. Many years ago I was approached in a similar manner as the OP. A man I did not recognise walked up to me in a store and said those exact same words. Then he proceeded to tell me how he hated me. I stood there, stunned at this verbal assault and unable to comprehend what I had so grievously done to this man. As he raved, I shortly understood the situation. Months earlier we had been called to a baby about 2 mos old in severe respiratory distress. Being a rookie medic I followed my older partner's lead and we began treating the baby as a FBAO. Dad said he put the baby down for a nap 30 minutes prior Here is the gist of his rant. While he stood there in shock that his baby might be dead (he looked it). My partner and I swooped in, grabbed his son and dashed out the door before he had a clue what was going on. He stood there, alone, and confused. Unsure of what to do next. Finally, he called some family who took him to the hospital to discover his son had died in ER. His anger directed toward me was simply because I was the last person to see his son alive and that he had never had a chance to be there to say goodbye. Since that call I have always taken a moment to talk to family members at a scene. To tell them what we think is wrong and what we're doing to fix it; I'll even offer one of the calmer ones a ride to the hospital with us. I also made sure that this man who lost his son knows that what he told me has been taken very seriously and has made me into a better medic. Now, I live in a very small town and everyone knows me. More than a few times I've been called out to a scene or to the hospital for a critical transfer, only to see the family sigh with relief and some even say out loud, "Thank God it's Trevor!!" I don't believe it is a dis about the rest of my staff, simply that I am the only medic here and if I'm not available, their loved one doesn't get the highest level of care possible. My staff and I all have the attitude that when on a call, we have more than one patient. The sick or injured as well as the family concerned for his or her well being.
  7. I'm thinking AK is being a little harsh. Not everyone is capable of disassociation as well as he is and not everyone can be like him. I feel for ya Ribett, I really do. If the morgue had no relevance to the patients I cared for I wouldn't consider it an issue, but being forced to bring my deceased patient back to my place until the funeral home can come get the body is just disconcerting. How long are you typically stuck with these bodies? Some medics, such as yourself, may be unable to "switch off" after the call and the lingering feelings of the "what could I have done differently" guilt syndrome would tend to be magnified when forced to keep the deceased with you rather than have the opportunity to be able to turn your back in the hospital and move on to the next call. Discuss your issues with a professional, We are not psychologists. I believe you have perfectly valid reasons for being uncomfortable at this station. As you said dead bodies don't give you the heebie jeebies, but having been involved in their care, then taking them home to my place would be a psychological burden for me as well. Can you switch stations? Discuss options with management? Even something so minor as taking your deceased patient to a different location may address the major issue. Are you unionised? Not that I'm sure they could help, but it may give you some support if you explain your reasons.

How could the spleen and diaphragm be damaged yet not the stomach? Is the spleen actually displaced that far north during late pregnancy that an ETT can reach it?

  10. I answered all 300 questions...It's not the first time I took a test like this so there are no surprises. A note on terminology. Personality traits describe, relative to other people, the frequency or intensity of a person's feelings, thoughts, or behaviors. Possession of a trait is therefore a matter of degree. We might describe two individuals as extraverts, but still see one as more extraverted than the other. This report uses expressions such as "extravert" or "high in extraversion" to describe someone who is likely to be seen by others as relatively extraverted. My understanding is that Oral D50 would raise the blood glucose level faster because it is already in the form that does not have to be metabolized by the body, but it would not raise it as high or for as long. Providing the paste (essentially corn syrup) works slower, but because the body has to metabolise it, it will last longer and raise the BGL higher. Adding more complex foods such as pizza results in a longer lasting and more controlled resolution to the hypoglycemia because of the time it takes to convert those complex carbs into dextrose. Personally, I'd stick to the D50 for IV and a more appropriate oral solution for patients able to respond to commands.

Clearly, your posts continue to be irrelevant and ineffective, I may take time to be bothered to read what you think of me in the future, but don't expect me to respond any further to your schoolyard bullying. For the record, the warning I got regarding ERDoc was that if I crossed him he would chew me up, spit me out and use my shattered bones to clean his teeth, you were the only one I was warned was an asshole.

I'm honoured, better be careful though, he might sneak up with a higher post count than you and you will be forced to bow down to his higher ranking. :roll: Maybe you think paying to be a city sponsor has bought you some respect? Personally, I chose the anonymous box because I don't have to compensate for something and announce to the world with every post I make that I paid money to get all those stars.   23. Our primary ALS unit is a type III but the backup is a type II. It's a little tougher to work in as mentioned, but it still has all the gear. One advantage it does have over the type II not yet mentioned, is travel through snow. The type II is much better because the front wheels plow a path for the rear to follow. A dual wheel type I or III has to push the front and back wheels thru the snow, typically resulting in it getting stuck where the type II wouldn't.
  24. That falls along the same argument that seatbelt law opponents tried to use. If they crash more people will be killed because the seatbelt will jam and trap them in the burning car. :roll:
