  1. Ok...so scratch the whole "accreditation from a College" thing.. Anyone international looking to work in California has to get State certified first. Then EMSA will sponsor you for the NREMT test. Check out: http://www.emsa.ca.gov/paramedic/default.asp for forms.
  2. Wow thanks for all that! I just got a bite from one of the more recognized colleges in San Diego so I'm hoping we can work something out. I will be harassing my College for all that information as well. I'll be sure to let this forum know how it goes... It all has to happen before Dec. 15th as I'll be leaving for another contract in the Gulf.
  3. Just found out I need a College to sign me off so I can apply under their name. I'm in the process now.
  4. All of my family is in California and it was never really an option for the reasons you listed. But I then got a job working offshore of seismic vessels and this is on a 6week rotation. So I can now live wherever I want. So to answer your question, I'm doing it to be with family, for the experience, and because I can afford to. I'm in a pretty unique situation.
  5. Hey everyone. I'm a canadian trained Advanced Care Paramedic certified to work in the province of Ontario. I'm moving to San Diego California soon and I'm looking to work as a road medic. I'm trying to figure out how to set up any meets/equivalency classes before I get down there the 1rst of Dec, but I'm having a hell of a time figuring everything out. I just spent 1.5 hrs on hold with NREMT... starting to get a little frustrated. Can anyone help me out? My program was 3 years so I'm fairly certain I'm the equivalent to an EMT-P. Please help!
  6. Does anyone know what's going on with the San Diego fire dept.? I hear Rural Metro is getting the boot. I'm looking to head down to SD soon, what is the best service to work for?
  7. Hello to all, I have started a few topics inquiring about overseas jobs as a paramedic. This inquiry is about working in Australia. There have been other topics started on this website with the same sort of questions and answers, but they date back to 2009. I have been peppering every province in Aus with e-mails and I'm getting mixed responses. I need to talk to a Canadian who is trained ALS and has made the move...or someone who knows what it is I need to do. I don't mind starting at what would be considered PCP in Ontario (Salbutamol, Glucagon/oral glucose, auto defib, Epi IM/NEB...ect) and making the move later. I'm also VERY (and I mean VERY) interested in the possibility of advancing my training to ICP in the future in Australia. I've heard nothing but good things of the paramedic programs out there and would love to be a part of this program and gain more knowledge. I am 27 years old, do not presently hold any work experience with a service, and I'm about to finish my 3rd year (ALS) of school. Combined, my program will have given me over 1200 hours on the road and around 30 shifts in OR, ER, and children's hospitals working with patients. I currently work for a patient transfer company (which from what I understand is Paramedic level 1 in certain parts of Aus) and have been doing it for the last 3 years. I understand that QLD and NSW are probably the best choices. I have been in contact with Victoria province and they have told me that at least a year of experience on the road would be needed before I could make the move. I have also heard about these companies that work with miners in west australia...2 weeks on and 2 weeks off...does such an awesome job exist??? Here are the BLS and ALS standards for Ontario Canada: http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/public/program/ehs/edu/pdf/bls_patient.pdf http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/public/program/ehs/edu/pdf/als_standards.pdf Again, i have made coutless enquiries with Australian services and have heard a variety of information. I'm aware that you need 3 years experience to apply for the ENS VISA and blah blah.... i'm just looking for my best options... If someone can help in any way it would be immensely appreciated, Australia has appealed to me since a very young age and i need to make this dream come true. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read this
  8. Hey all, I'm going to be finishing up the Advanced Care Paramedic program at a college in Ottawa, Ontario Canada soon. It'll mark the end of the 3rd year of my training which have included over 1200 on the road and 30 ER,OR, and children Hospital clinicals. I'm not sure what the credentials of ''ACP EMCA'' are good for worldwide...but would like to travel. Does anybody have any suggestions of where I may be able to work overseas? Australia, Central/South America, Caribbean...ect...they're all good! Now remember, I haven't been hired as a medic yet.. but my work has brought me many hours of patient contact. (Patient Transfer Service) Just taking a shot in the dark...Whatever tips you have are welcome! thanks, Christos Constantinou ACP Student, Algonquin College Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
  9. I'll be completing the Primary Care Paramedic program in April @ Algonquin College in Ottawa ON, Canada. I'm currently visiting my family in San Diego CA and would love to start my career here. But its hard to figure out who to talk to about this sort of thing. I'm in San Diego until the 3rd of January and would really like to have a plan of action before I leave...Any california medics out there able to help me out?? I AM eligible to work in the states... Christos
  10. She's a crook and I'm sticking to it! I'm telling you guys this guy wouldn't have done anything if his relationship with this CROOK was less than close. They probably joked around all the time. (Probably part of her con) And when she saw the tattoo her eyes lit up with green money symbols and she yelled "JACKPOT"! :D/ One more for her---> :thebirdman:
  11. This really pisses me off! This is just some stupid **** trying to get money out of a well respected surgeon. Does anyone really think that such an educated man would make such a move if he thought she was the slightest bit sensitive? This is obviously a guy who goes above and beyond to highten his patients' spirits. You can't compare a man who puts a TEMPORARY tattoo on a witch to a guy who CARVES his initials into a patient. Ok...so it was below the panty line...the crybaby was probably wearing diapers! She's probably a con artist that set him up. I hope karma finds her well. Here's one for the crook : :thebirdman:
  12. Jules: There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you." I been sayin' that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a cold-blooded thing to say to a motherfucker before you popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some shit this mornin' made me think twice. Now I'm thinkin': it could mean you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. .45 here, he's the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could be you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. I'd like that. But that shit ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin, Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be the shepherd.
  13. That's plain genious...he should count cards in Vegas!
