  1. Stew, here you go.. http://www.animaledu.com/main_index.htm or go here. Good stuff maynard, good stuff. http://www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/rehab/education.html
  2. absolutely but here's the overall point. Remember that ABLS is meant to be geared towards in hospital treatment rather than pre-hospital treatment. in the field are you really going to be able to document urine output? Are you really going to be concerned right then and there in the calculating of fluid rates which more than likely will be revised once they reach definitive treatment. This course is really a good course to augment your treatment in the field but if you were expecting this course to be a pre-hospital course (which I'm not saying that is the case here) then you were expecting a little too much. now if you are working in a burn unit or are working in the ER then this course is nice to have. but pre-hospital I think it's not a great class to have. I used to be a ABLS instructor which is funny because when I sent in my paperwork for the class I was supposed to have a class and go thru it. I got the manual, the testing material and also a card saying I was a ABLS instructor. I never went to the instructor class nor did I go to a ABLS provider class - I just got the card, clerical error I think so. Did I ever teach the class, I could have but my schedule never allowed for it, would I have, NOPE as I did not feel I was instructor worthy.
  3. Well I think that the answer should take into account that an electrical burn affects not only the entrance wound area and the exit wound area but the entire body as a whole. The burn is not limited to just the hand and feet but it also extends to the internal organs, the brain, the kidneys, the lungs and basically every system taht the electricity went thru from hand to foot. So you start at the hand and move up the arm, down the chest cavity, the abdomonal area the legs and then the feet. Don't forget that it also could have hit the brain and the head and neck. Electrical burns are bad mojo and since the current was flowing thru the body instead of the burn staying on the surface of the skin and it's subsequent layers it makes the electrical burns the "Most Extreme" ha ha Hence the requirement for more fluid therapy ps, the instructors you got sound like they had no clue in what they were teaching. I've read your other post on this too. I would call the place you got your training from and let them know that you were not satisfied. Do you think you got your $249.99 worth? If not you owe it to your self, your training entity, your service and your Country to demand a recount.
  4. I would bet that is exactly what they are thinking plus they can add the ems numbers to their volume and qualify for some nice new fire trucks, turnout gear and WMD preparedness stuff. GRANT MONEY BABY!!! Your service needs to be the one incorporating Fire into the mix not the other way around. There will more than likely be new positions opening up soon, and not on the fire department.
  5. they are making a mountain out of a molehill. They are dead, they cannot get any deader. So what's the issue?
  6. ok the question that I have is when you clipped the dumpster did you have a backer? That would have prevented that accident. And the other question I have is where are you working that allows someone 18 years old to drive? I"m just curious
  7. so from your post am I incorrect that you've hit three items, two signs and one dumpster?
  8. update to the story: The boston Firechief told the dumbass er I mean Firefighter that he had to show up for work today. He was a no-show. the fire chief can now go after this dumb er I mean firefighter for termination. Amazing.
  9. I want to know why are they splitting up when there is an EDP present. Doesn't that fly in the face of keep yourself safe?
  10. http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_updat...ary_tattoo.html What strikes me is this - here is a part of the article - "In a highly publicized case in 1999, a doctor in New York City went further by carving his initials into a patient's abdomen after delivering her baby by Caesarean section. Mateo, the patient from Pennsauken, declined to comment last night." Could this be our favorite poster Mateo's love child?
  11. I've been thru the ringer this week. First off we find out that the training that was going on in our system was pulling in actual patient data. they figured that out and decided to have me do an entire new build in a new location. I do that and because we are not interfaced 90% of the rules and other items will not work. that took 29 hours to build. They then decide to have me validate another domain and see if training can happen there. I am doing that and am nearly done. I then go into the testing room and they are now deciding that training can go on in the original domain but they might be copying that domain without patient information to a blank empty domain on Monday So far I have spent 43 hours this week building and verifying and at 125.00 per hour you can imagine how much this has cost my client for someone's original STUPID decision in the first place. Now I have to determine if the re-build in the domain that I just validated will take longer than the copy into the blank domain and they will use those numbers to make their decision. Above and beyond all that, the PM and my counterpart to the project all went on vacation this week so I'm doing it all. Does anyone have a source for a small tactical nuclear device that will only destroy a few cubicles? If so I want to talk to that source. ******disclaimer - I am simply and ONLY KIDDING about the nuclear device******* I'll settle for a 6 pack of beer, a recliner and a movie marathon of My cousin Vinny, Kindergarden Cop and SAW.
  12. I have made it my mission to irritate the heck out of people if I'm in the bathroom and they are in the next stall talking on the phone. I plan on answering every one of their questions with a potty themed question. I plan on making my voice so loud that everyone in the bathroom will know that I'm on my cell phone to hell with the associating my smell/stink with my voice. In the end when I am done, I'm going to say 'Dang, I thought you said you didn't have a boyfriend, You used me" and then leave. Maybe that will get em to think long and hard before they start to chat on their phone thusly interrupting my private moment and keeping me from discovering the secret of NIMH.
  13. Then you petition the state to take over that pick and choose services area. If you can prove that patietns are suffering and your service can provider better coverage then you might just be able to take over their service area. But's that's a last resort step.
  14. thanks for the clarification. I apologize for any bad feelings you may have had on my post.
  15. well if failing it makes you ride as a basic and need remedial training then how can he say it doesnt' affect patient care. It forces the system to work with one less medic. hmmmmmmm but then again, that might not be the case.
  16. anyone who thinks that hazing is harmless or that hazing in a KKK suit is harmless then they are someone that I do not want to associate with. Some Hazing like covering the toilet seat with saran wrap is ok but getting into more invasive or dangerous hazing like the KKK incident is just plain messed up. I've been the victim of hazing before, got a large dose of lasix in my diet soda. Pee'd all day but didn't expect the lasix because I think diet coke tastes like crap anyway so I didn't even think it was altered, electrolyte imbalance(very very bad levels) and ended up in the ER and then the hospital. this happened when I first became a EMT. So you can see where I have a objection to hazing. 2nd hazing incident, not my injury but had a paramedic who was spraying d-50 from the syringe at a new emt. the emt ran away, slipped on some grease in the garage and went down, separating his shoulder and needing 8 weeks off work. some hazing is ok as long as it's not dangerous nor offensive but it is really up to the hazee to determine if it's dangerous or offensive..
  17. Ahhh well if that's the case, then I'll apologize to the poster but if not my statement stands. I hope its the first option.
  18. Did I read that right? That someone dressed up in KKK outfits is what you consider harmless hazing?? Please clarify that statement. If you think it's harmless hazing and I hope you do not, but if you do, then you are a freaking MORON!!!!!! and your credibility on this board is totally fubared. But if you don't think it was a harmless hazing prank, then I aplogize for calling you a Freaking MORON!!!!!!!!!
  19. Blanket statement alert blanket statement alert I have several nurse friends who work the floor. They worked in the ER and finally got tired of taking care of the ER patients and they wanted a break. I know for a fact they cut it in the ER.
  20. until you have people who take responsibility to clear their land and help mitigate the damage to their property you will still have loss like this. Take the eroding seashore, people build as close to the water as possible yet get all upset when the ocean comes and takes their house away. if you build in a floodzone, an active floodzone then you have no right to complain that your house was swept away by a flood!!!! Earthquakes you can't do anything about, hurricanes are too big, tornadoes are too hit and miss but floods or eroding beaches you can do something about - dont build there. But until the federal government stops helping these people re-build with financial assistance they will keep rebuilding. But to get back on track, Boe, I hope if you go that you play safe and play nice in the sandbox wiht your fellows on the left coast. I also hope you come home safely too.
  21. actually I made some phone calls the other night to various EMS agencies around Ohio and all of them said that they as EMT's with their medical directors approval were allowed to intubate pulseless apneic patients. If they don't meet the pulseless and apneic criteria then no intubation. I'd have to look at who I called but there were several agencies who confirmed that their emt's could intubate on calls.
