  1. This scenario is a prime example of what not to do in a posted scenario. 1. do not post a scenario that you did not run yourself. 2. Do not go off and not respond to your audiences questions 3. DO finish one scenario before starting a new one. 4. read other scenarios to get a feel for what you need to post.
  2. The reasons why the emails were accepted is because they were formatted in word, office 2007 format, ms works format and also mac formats. If you wish to email the submissions which is acceptable now that I've let others do it, mail to michael.ruff@maxithc.com I will post all submissions on the contest thread next tuesday. The winner will be announce Tuesday morning. Please don't use mac format because it's so damn hard to convert to MS formats.
  3. He's just letting it all out like his CISD counsellor told him to.
  4. DWAYNE That was classic. I had to stifle a laugh because I was at work. But CLASSIC so Mateo, what do you have to defend yourself with. and remember buddy It's not the size of your package, it's only how you use it that counts.
  5. SHANE, finish your first scenario!!!! Do not start this one or it's gonna go just like your other one did.
  6. Honestly, this scenario is not a good one. Shane, advice, please respond to each persons request for more info. If you do not do that then you lose our interest in your scenario. now I see you posting a new scenario and you haven't even finished this one. Focus, mcfly, focus Finish this scenario and then do a new one.
  7. The judge with lower standards is ME ha ha ha As of 7:40 this morning I have received one of the best submissions that I've ever seen. I will not tell who it is but suffice it to say, It is excellent. There are at least 8 other submissions which are quite good also. I have also decided to pull out the stops and there will be a 1st prize, 2nd prize and a 3rd prize. I will not unveil the prizes until this coming monday which is the final day for submissions so you all have the weekend to work on this. I believe the prize totals will be around 100-150 bucks. So get your submissions in.
  8. Dang Dwayne, I'll bet if you weren't 10000 miles away, and deep in the heart of Osama Land you wouldn't be so daring. ha ha ha but actually I agree with what you said.
  9. now remember, it's our job to make sure the patient is completely clean the patient, make sure their hair is done and make sure they have brushed their teeth and have put on clean underwear. I did what I could for the patient.
  10. HOLY CRAPOLA BATMAN, That just shouts MI MI MI MONA, IV, transport to cardiac center, and whatever else your protocols dictate. Early notification to the chest pain center is key here. . Prepare for patient to crump.
  11. Was 100mg enough? ONe of my ex-partners got his leg broken by a pcp strung out addict.
  12. to the OP, if they show up and offer to help then by all means if I'm overwhelmed with a critical patient and it's just me then darn it I'll take theirh elp till EMS gets there. If I don't need their help then I'll say thanks. The minute that they try to take over scene is when we have a issue. Letmesleep, here is one other experience I had. drove up on a bad rollover. One firetruck was on scene. No ambulance in sight. 5 patients, 3 ejected and one pinned in. The side of the firetruck said "ALS Rescue Truck" I got out of my car. Walked up, said I was a medic from Clintom MO, and asked if the 2 firemen needed help. I was told "No, the ambulance will be here in about 10 minutes." WTF?????? I said "you have 5 patients here and 2 of you" He repeated "we don't need any help" I said "this is your scene but can you really handle all 5 patients with just two of you" He said, "You can leave, we have it under control" Well, I just don't take No for an answer and I told him unless he is a medic then I'm going to help these people. I assessed them and said "you are gonna need 2 more ambulances and at least one helicopter" At that time the fire cheif arrived on scene. He asked me who I was and I told him. I also told him that his crew told me to leave. He about blew a gasket. We started to treat the patients and started packaging three of them. The chief also ordered 2 additional ambulances and one helicopter. After all the patients had a ambulance crew to take care of them I went back to my car. The chief came up and asked me more about what the fireman said to me and I told him. As I looked in my rearview mirror I could see the chief having an animated discussion with that fireman. So the question is this, there was fire already on the scene. 5 injured patients and not a EMS unit in sight. Did I do the right thing by refusing to leave and starting to assess the patients or should I have left? I feel I did the right thing. who knows.
  13. I disagree on the whacker comment. What he described is not a whacker but someone who wants to help. You can always send them away. For those of you who have stopped to help kudos but.... don't try to take over the scene. but for every good experience that people have when stopping to help there will be an equal negative experience that someone else has happened. For example, I was up in a small town north of Baltimore Md. I saw a woman who ran down a hill, fell into the roadway and then her arm was run over by a car that couldn't stop. That car kept going. I held c-spine till EMS and Fire got there and I gave a report to the medic on scene. She then said, "you can leave now" no thanks, no appreciation. I told her I'm not leaving till someone takes over c-spine and she said "If you don't leave I'll have the officer remove you" I said "Ok, but I'm not leaving until someone from your crew takes over c-spine." a firefighter came over took over c-spine and I left, only to be stopped by the officer there wanting to know why I hit the lady. Well, I was none to happy and I said, I did not hit her. He said witnesses said a car hit the lady. I said, I stopped 10 feet short of the patient and blocked the road so no-one else would hit her. I gave a description of the car and he took my information and I went on my merry way. After getting over the rudeness of the medic, I found the address of the EMS agency which was actually a fire based service. I drove directly to the station and discussed this medic's behaviour with her captain who promised he'd take care of it. As a matter of fact, I got a apology letter from the Chief I talked to assuring me that her behaviour had been dealt with. I don't care what service you work for, you don't treat people like that.
  14. ok, what I was trying to get at since we all complain about the state of education in EMS wsa the ideal paramedic program. Not just one taken from a university or community college but one that if you were in charge what would you have it be. For those of you who just cut and paste a program from the web, you are not going to win. For those of you who decide to put more effort in to this than just going out to a college website you will be in the running for the prize. Don't do the easy way by cutting or pasting, do it right by saying to yourself "If I was in charge of the national education system for paramedics, what would I want to see in a class" and then answer the questions you came up with. This is meant to make you think, not to make you an automaton. Trust me, I know who will have cut and pasted and who did not. Who did the minimum and who did the extra effort. Just for your information, my co-judge will be Dustdevil if I can get him to sit still long enough to review the entries. you know his standards.
  15. ok, so why did the medic put a cpap mask on? Shane, come back to us, tell us more.
  16. no that was pat. let's get our names straight.
  17. I wasn't arguing that point. I am always skeptical of direct quotes in newspapers. They can be taken out of context. How many times have what political candidates say been taken completely out of context. It's pretty easy to take things out of context. But I'll grant your point JP. Direct quotes have a certain credence but I do not trust the media nor do I care to. They have proven over and over again that they report things to sell news papers and nothing more.
  18. or could it be someone who only has 3 posts to their name. That way the Admin can go into chat as his/her alter-ego I've even heard admin's name is Chris (can't determine male or female from that name). I also heard that at 20K users he/she was supposed to take off the static from their avatar but that was a ruse.
  19. /sarcasm Any patient that doesn't follow my cookbook protocol book /sarcasm on But seriously, any patient that presents in an airplane 37K in the air with a BP of 80/40 and only one bag of 500ml NS, one 18 ga, one 20 ga, and one 22 ga iv cath. Or any patient in the air that presents with a heart rate of 40 and NO ALS equipment. Had that one happen too about a year and a half ago. (she ended up coding in the ambulance on the tarmac)
  20. Yes, you need to take everything that is reported in the media as gospel. If we all did that we'd be a more complacent group of citizens.
  21. we are the collective, we are the borg, you will be assimilated.
  22. could it be that his speedo covered his tiny little wee wee and that he was feeling a little small?
