NASCAR EMS

Recommended Posts

I believe an EMS NASCAR crew is a must. I also believe like firedoc pointed out that drivers are a big problem with the standard of care that is provided. I believe that some sort of protocol needs to wrote and enforce that drivers can not refuse car in a serious accident. If NASCAR is going to be resonsible than they should be allowed to set high standards.

trackside medical cover for 4 wheel motorsport in the Uk is regulated by the MSA who have specific requirements for physicians, paramedics and 'medical assistants' ( primarily Ambulance techs, nurses and ODPs)

trackside cover is provided by a mxture of 'rescue ambulances' - with a larger crew including extrication specialists and a paramedic +/- doctor and supplementary 'ordinary' A+E ambulances - big events with also have medical ('Doctor's car') and fire Rapid intervention vehicles

'2 wheel' motorsport regualted by the ACU is less regulated primarily becasue the requirement for extrication is a lot small er with bikes so the vast majority if not all ambulance cover is just regualr ambulances plus the physician response vehicle

I worked at Pocono International Raceway in eastern pa for 4 years. They use a company from around Phily (NES) something Event Services. They also have some local depts on hand. Infield medical was provided by local hosp. staff. I believe as of last season it was nascar policy to upright a roof resting car with twin boom wrecker as long as the driver was stable. I was working fire and it was extremely boring, standing around in the pits sweating profusely in the sun. They are very anal about everyone looking exactly the same down to the color of our gloves. It was just one big show that paid min. wage. They did a pre show meeting where they went over all of the safety equipment in the cars that was about it.

I belive it is the IRL that has their own traveling rescue team.

But IRL is a much more sophisticated sport compared to NASCAR.

Hmmm....

Nah, I won't go there.

IRL has their own system entirely. I don't know all that much about it but it deals with the more lower extremities. An ER doc I worked with a few times worked the infield hospital at that Indy 500 several times. Never could get him to take me with him.
