  1. Thank you for the reminder that these videos are out there. We had an active shooter drill in our hospital a few months back. It's a scary world we live in.
  2. https://cte.stlcc.edu/paramedic-technology/ They have financial aid available according to their website, appears to be accredited, and you can get your associates there too!
  3. Then do both. I know several nurses who do both. I'm going to go back and get my paramedic back so I can do both again. I let it lapse after burning out and going through nursing school.

Welcome I don't bite, but nurses have been known to eat their young in the wild...
  5. Congratulations on an incredible career
  6. I don't think I'm experienced enough. I've been in the ER for a few years and am cross trained to the ICU, have my CEN, but I just don't have confidence in my knowledge to do flights.
  7. I want to be a flight nurse so bad somedays...
  8. so confused as to what this has to do with EMS or medicine?
  9. Hockey? Anyone? no no no... the only football team that counts is the Redskins
  10. True, I'm not talking about the extremes or rare cases here though. I'm talking about the 80 year old who's spouse woke up and found them not breathing. This would indicate they got pulses back though, correct? Therefore they would not be transporting a dead person.
  11. Oh no I had no idea, I am so sorry Dwayne. If there is anything I can do please let me know. She was truly a great lady and will be missed dearly!
  12. I've done that and I'm still stuck, each have their pros and cons that are about equal, it just comes down to what I want to do with the rest of my life. I wish APRN was more like MD in that during school you rotate through all of the specialties and then get to choose, I just don't have that option to do a meaningful rotation in each of the specialty areas.
  13. Gotcha. All the facilities I've worked at use Epic.
  14. Ok friends. I need some unbiased advice. I have the first semester of NP school completed which is just general advance practice courses. I thought for sure that I wanted to be an acute care adult-geriatric NP, but now I'm not so sure. This was part of the reason I took a break and a high risk pregnancy full of complications that demanded me to slow down. My interests at this point are to continue with the acute care degree and work for a hospital group focusing on ICU patients or Certified Nurse Midwife. There aren't any ER's in this area that hire NP's so in order to pursue an advanced degree, I have to leave the ER . I'm just at this cross roads and I'm not sure how to proceed, and truth is, I'm not sure which practice area will make me the happiest in the long run.
  15. So that's why it takes you doc's forever and a day to put orders in... pfft.
  16. Welcome! It does sound like you have a full plate!
  17. It's hitting us super late here in Denver... poor guys!
  18. I agree. Doing the job is all that you stated, it's continuously learning and improving. I know very few providers who make it in this crazy field without constantly improving themselves as providers.
  19. I personally have the apple watch, and one of my watch faces is configured for work with a stop watch one tap away. This is helpful when I'm recording in codes. In the ER though, when I feel for a pulse, it's more for quality not rate. On the ambulance, I always had an analog watch with a second hand, too many numbers in my head confuses me.
  20. Welcome! I hated driving, despised it actually so I always attended and let my partner drive. Likely hated it because I had been in a pretty bad wreck as a passenger and just hated having that responsibility. My suggestion is to take your time when they put you through the course, ask questions, and if you don't feel ready--tell them that. Don't drive unless you feel 100% comfortable. It is a huge responsibility and it shouldn't be taken lightly.
  21. http://www.greenvillecounty.org/apps/OnlineApplications/ViewOpenJobs.aspx# Found that in a quick google search of South Carolina EMS jobs... Welcome to the city
