  1. ERDoc thank you, I realized my mistake and I'm sorry for reinforcing the paramedic+ view of the majority of the EMT community as less-than-prepared. I am adjusting to this new world and am tired like I've never known. I am getting better each day and will continue to do so. scubanurse thank you for your reply, that is exactly what I was looking for. Appreciated that you didn't feel the need to make fun (Note: This is not to be mistaken with pointing out my mistake) and gave me an honest answer. Update: Went on my first rounds and it was eye opening. Congestion alone, Manhattan is the worst place to work in an ambulance. As for the EMTs, I would kindly describe them as mildly interested or bored silly. Learned a very valuable lesson from one, however. What he called Psychological First Aid, basically treating the patient's head, first. Humanizing the situation, treating them like a good friend who needs his help, putting them at ease best he can. Not something my instructors emphasize. That alone was worth the rest.
  2. What do you mean, ask yourself why you need a watch for BPs?
  3. Hello everyone, my name is Wyatt and I'm less than a month away from taking the state exam for EMT-Basic here in Queens, NY. I have a thousand questions due to amount of info we've had to ingest in less than four months, but I'll start with a simple one that I hope doesn't come across as foolish. I am going on my first ambulance rounds next week and I know I'll be taking BP readings for the EMTs. I have to buy a cheap but effective watch and I'm curious if anyone has any good, fast rules for why a digital face would be better or worse than a chronograph with a second hand? IE: Do any of you find it can confuse you unnecessarily to look at digital seconds count down while trying to count heartbeats? Hope that makes sense and I promise I'm not trying to sweat the small stuff, just don't want to waste money. Thanks.
