  2. Hmm, 40+ here, no problem. Let me try it with ol' girl, be right back. *edit* Well, ya know how you hit "submit", then read your post. Well, I just read the rest of the original post  Yeah, 40+ here
  3. Im not gonna go with any of the horrible, dramatic calls. I gotta say the old folks we respond to almost daily give me perspective on a lot of things. I like the old people. Even the BS responses give me insight into the lives of our elderly and sometimes humanity in general. ed
  4. Im not "defending" myself as an EMT. I see no need for that. Im an EMT. When I began a second career in EMS I decided to do the "Basic" thing for 5 years, then continue on with Paramedic school. I was a transfer b*tch for over a year, I worked a rural 911 system for a couple years and now Im in a pretty busy metro system. I hear some say "why waste your time". Well, Im NOT wasting my time. Im enjoying what Im doing and learning, and I sincerely convey this to those around me, coworkers AND employers. The company I work for pays for and pays while attending Paramedic school. I just passed on the class starting in the near future and was respected for my decision, although dissapointment was also expressed ALONG WITH THE RESPECT. The next opportunity will be in January and I told my employer I would accept it then, just two months shy of 5 years. Im not a kid and I do take EMS seriously. I have and will continue to take positive things from this site when I can, but I would like to say that YOUR opinion of my choices mean very little to me personally. Have a good day Ed
  5. Whit72, good post. Im am good at my job, and I enjoy my job. ed
  6. Inguinal hernia last month, surgery a couple weeks ago, still on light duty until july 3rd. I scan all the paperwork that comes in into a computer. I have never worked indoors in my life. This is some mind numbing stuff  Im 43, I was a roofer for 20years and lifted stuff daily. Now Im concerned, really concerned about re-injuring myself and not being able to pursue this career (4 years in). Anyone experienced this injury, suggestions?? Thanks, Ed
  7. Congrats to you!! Im getting married in June myself, and yes, you can definately send that to WendyT ed

  9. Search came up empty.... Uniform shirt, 65% Polyester 35% Cotton Spray and wash then regular wash cycle, blood's still there. What do you use?? ed
  10. Company I work for has "Road Safety" systems installed in the ambulances. tick tick tick tickticktick TONE!!!!!!!!! Anyone else drive with similar systems?? Opinions?? I personally think it helps with the new (and sometimes old) inexperienced drivers although sometimes when running hot it gets a bit noisy  ed
  11. Heres an online program I have, it lets you learn at your own pace. I SUCK at math but when I have time..... Its something like $19.00 a month, dont know if its worth it to you but if it is, good luck. http://www.aleks.com/
  12. Saw this article on the Jems site, (ok to link??). Really does seem like it may be a simple, effective tool in the field. Thoughts from you guys?? http://www.jems.com/jems/31-11/243890/ ed
  13. So from those that have been around awhile, suggestions?? Or is "burnout" pretty much the most likely result. Interesting thread, I have put some amount of thought into trying to not let this job do too much damage to my mental well being. Im still new, 3 years, so I have only dealt with so much. ed
  14. Work was providing the shot last week, couldnt get it though, I had the flu ed
  15. My brother in the Bay Area just got an e mail from me, HUGE Raiders fan ed
  16. 3 year old little boy. 2nd and 3rd degree, 60 % , mostly above the waist, degloved himself (both hands) before we arrived. ed
  17. Dont know about Canada but like was said before, I'd be surprised if you were still looking for work. I did the offshore gig off the coast of Southern California. Its definately something you are either gonna love, or hate doing. Good luck. ed
  18. Guy's walking by a mental hospital and hears a moanng voice "14, 14, 14", he peeks through a hole in the fence, gets poked in the eye, moaning voice continues "15, 15, 15...." Carry on. :? ed

  20. Medic from my Ridgecrest station will be doin the Vegas thing shortly, and I believe one of our just finished interns is heading that way too. Gonna be nice to cut out that 100+ mile commute. Hey CHP, Im shooting for the east side nights, I think they start stabbing each other around 7 or 8 most evenings. I interviewed with Surface the other day and finished all the physical crap yesterday. Really looking forward to the change. ed
  21. Well, I did it. 2 more shifts in the desert then I start here in Bakersfield. I guess thats urban  Looking forward to a much higher call volume and the faster pace. No it definately aint the big city but a hell of a lot bigger than Ridgecrest Ca. ed
  22. WUD-Woke Up Dead WURD-Woke Up REALLY Dead ed
  23. Ammonia ampules taped under the toilet seat  A glove on the end of suction tubing attached to the main 02, put next to the drivers seat on those late night long distance transfers. (scared the hell out of me  ) I was victim of some other stuff but it really wouldnt be condoned so.... ed
  24. We have 2 front line units on 24. 1 changes at 0800 and the 2nd changes at 0830. I do the 30 minutes early thing. If I get to work at 0755 and the other unit is out, and a call comes in, I DAMN sure want to KNOW that the O2 bottle on the gurney isnt empty when I bring that thing into someones home at 0801. We dont get paid until 0800 (if thats my truck), but I look at it as being responsible. Its more for myself I guess, thats just how my work ethic is. It used to piss me off when (most) other employees would roll in 2 minutes before crew exchange but now I just dont pay too much attention. If my relief shows up 2 minutes before Im off and I got somewhere to go, its a 2 minute report, completed by telling them "check it out". ed
