  1. I don't get the point of this thread?
  2. That was my thought too but for some reason I thought it was a compressed gas in a cylinder?
  3. I was flipping through the channels the other day and I happened to see some medics working on someone. It turned out that it was survivor *shudder* and from the accent I would say they were in Australia or somewhere in that area. What interested me was they were having him breathe through a green tube and it appeared to be for the purpose of pain control (the person had suffered burns). Does anyone know what this is? I've never seen it before.
  4. This is a good point. If they ever asked you in court how sure you were that his lungs were clear = bilat I think you would be justified in smacking that lawyer upside the head
  5. Must... resist... obvious.... comment!
  6. The hospital where I work doesn't staff the ER after midnight. Dispatch (hopefully) calls ahead and one of the RNs from the floor comes down to meet you and let you in :!:
  7. Just curious, what would be an appropriate pressure to put it at for your IV idea?
  8. *runs for the nearest bomb shelter*
  9. I had a similar situation, but more of a "this is taking forever" thing since each draw requires ensuring that you have exactly 1mL :? Would be so much easier if they would carry either multi-dose or make a 5mg amp. Then you just need to draw up the 2.5 out of that as well.
  10. Oh, I guess that picture says a lot more to you than it does to me
  11. Am I missing something? Is there something more to this picture than just a bunch of ambulances parked on a road?
  12. Here is what I carry. In cas you can't tell, it's all on ones of those removable belts so I don't have to be sitting on it when I'm at the base. Sorry about the crappy quality, the webcam is not the greatest. The only thing not shown is my notepad which consists of the cheap flip pads you can buy for next to nothing. Around here, everyone has a holster. It's odd to see a medic without one.
  13. I appreciate the replies too, but they all aren't answering the question as far as I can tell. They are all basically saying it would be best to do a XII lead... which we already know. I'm interested in this too because I think I'm going to be working for a service without XII lead with lengthy transports. Is this not a question that can get a yes/no answer? If I put the limb leads in diagnostic mode and see indication in II and III can I say it's as good as the same changes on a true XII lead?

    Asthma

As the person stated above. In addition, it decreases the chance of transmitting respiratory infections. In fact, our protocols state absolute contraindication to nebulised meds if suspected or confirmed fever above 38.0C or if there is a declared respiratory outbreak. In these cases, we are to either use MDI with spacer or Epi SQ/IM if MDI with spacer is unavailable or the pt is unable to use properly.

    Asthma

Further, provincial Symptom Relief protocols now recommend the use of an MDI with space in the doses you mentioned instead of nebulised as first choice for Tx of asthma.
  16. Exactly... that's the problem with these scenarios sometimes. You have time to sit down and think about it, look at all the S/S, look up the relevant literature and then post. In the field you don't have that luxury. Most people would treat the symptoms and report it simply as "Altered LOC"
  17. Well that settles it... if she says it, we must all listen because she is the authority on what is worthy to discuss
  18. Yeah, the Demers Type III Mystere seems to be by far the most common of all Ontario trucks.
  19. I guess the best take home message is... the can't be all that bad of a company of the entire province is contracted with them, can they??
  20. Haven't seen the Millenium specifically, however the Ontario gov't contracts strictly with Demers and Crestline Coach so I have seen a lot of their trucks. I really like them, although I don't have anything else to compare to. The pt compartment seems well laid out and comfortable along with the front. Don't really have much to compare to though
