  1. It's on the way to you Jo. Let me know if you have any other questions.
  2. never received it. Check yours I sent you my e-mail address
  3. Send me your E-mail address in a PM and I'll forward a copy of the bid spec to you. Just so you & the students understand that this spec if for a top of the line type III ALS transport truck with a lot of safety & user options. There are much cheaper units out there , just not too many as well built , & with as good a warrantee package. In ambulances , you get what you pay for. Our current truck has lasted 13 years and still has very few problems except for age related wear.
  4. We recently[ OCT 1st ] signed a contract for a new type III Pl Custom ALS Medallion on a Ford E 450 chassis. The contract price came in at $!43,000 . Add in around 68 thousand for our inventory of Equipment and consumables that will be transferred from our current truck. The ambulance bid specification I wrote was 28 pages long.
  5. I spent the morning last saturday playing Santa Clause. Handing out all new Tait portables to our crews. Really nice small pocket sized portables, with all the features of the big names and all thanks to a HLS grant i wrote last year. also got new tait mobiles for our trucks. Tait is from New Zealand and produce a quality product.
  6. In our states system 99% of air evac calls are done cold load for safety reasons. The little bit of time to shut down and spool down the rotors is probably not going to make much of a difference in saving a life. When we set up an LZ no one is allowed to approach the aircraft until met by, and accompanied by a member of the flight crew. They will usually come to our ambulance to do an assessment while the aircraft is spooling down. We then proceed to approach the "cold" aircraft and assist with loading pt and equipment. Safety is the #1 priority with Lifelight of Maine
  7. Look at the Zoll AEDplus AED's They have a nice set up with the cover being the head support and they have a 4 year shelf life on the pads and 2 year on the batteries. The batteries they use are small lithium Duracell #123 electronics batteries that can be purchased anywhere. [ wallmart, staples, home depot, unlike all the others which require that you buy a proprietary battery from them. 10 batteries for the Zoll are around $45.00 a replacement for other manufacturers can range from 85.00 to 130.00 each time you replace it. Ongoing maintenance is always something to look at and long term factory support is mandatory. I recently purchased a Zoll unit with a wall mount cabinet with alarm for $ 1400.00 that was placed at the local Yacht club. This price included adult & pedi pads and the carry case.
  8. The Ferno is a copy of the Stryker design. We have used the Stryker for 4 years now and it might well be the greatest piece of EMS equipment ever. It only weighs about seven pounds more than the model without the tracks. Once you use it you will never want to be without it.
  9. INSANITY Thats what 35 years in the field has taught me
  10. Just to add to Physios misery and battles with the FDA SPECIAL EDITION Cardiovascular Business | Cardiovascular Business News| Portals| Subscribe| Contact Us THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2008 Physio-Control recalls faulty defibrillators Physio Control, a subsidiary of Medtronic, has issued a recall of its LifePak CR Plus automated external defibrillators (AED) used by emergency or medical personnel to treat adults in cardiopulmonary arrest. The device is being recalled because it instructs the responder, by voice prompts, to press the shock button, which is covered and not visible. Therefore, the responder is not able to provide shock therapy, according to the FDA. The agency said that the AED should be removed from service or the manufacturer-provided diagram should be consulted to remove and discard the shock button cover. According to the FDA, the device was manufactured from May 20, 2004 through Aug. 11, 2007 and distributed from May 20, 2004 through Dec. 4, 2007. The Redmond, Wash.-based Physio-Control began calling their customers on Aug.28 to: Describe the problem of the covered and invisible shock button, and the inability to provide shock to adults who may be having a heart attack; and Inform their customers that their AEDs would be replaced immediately. The company sent a follow-up letter that was faxed or emailed the same day stating that customers should immediately perform one of the following actions—remove the affected AEDs from service, or remove and discard the shock button cover. The company said it completed notifying its customers on Sept. 2. In its notification, the FDA said that healthcare professionals and consumers may report any problems with the use of this product to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program either online, by regular mail or by fax. In May, top executives of Physio-Control signed a permanent injunction issued by the FDA related to AED, which prohibited the manufacture, distribution and export of specified AEDs at or from Physio-Controls facility in Redmond, Wash., until the devices and facilities proved to be in compliance with the agency's current good manufacturing practice requirements. Seems like they can't do anything right lately!!!!
  11. Ventmedic: Thank you for bringing the medico legal evidence to this discussion. It should be left up to the patient and their family members to have the authority to make these decisions without interference from the government , or fear of criminal proceedings being brought against them
  12. Mike If I personally was in this position please come pull the plug for me as I am unable to do so for myself. This is nothing more than allowing a pt to decide what level of medical intervention they choose to receive. The fact that I have become disabled by an accident does not remove my legal right to refuse intervention. Keeping me in a functioning state by artificial or mechanical means is not my wish.
  13. We've been married 34 years to each other and were in EMS prior to getting married. As with any other career it takes a lot of work and communication to make it go well & last. Don't blame a bad relationship on bedhopping at the job.
  14. I just use a MAC and don't have to worry about any of this PC crap
  15. Ahh the bejing olympics where healthy athletes from around the world will meet to breath air so polluted that they will all become our next batch of chronic lungers ! I can't hardly stand the anticipation :-] Other than that who cares

  20. I am in the process of spending 60k of federal dollars on radios and scba equipment from an 07 AFG. There is a category for non fire affiliated EMS units to apply under the AFG. I forget how many million $$$ went into the EMS column this year, but worth applying for. 08 app period has passed and 09 will open in Feb. The AFG is a very competitive process and the app is not something you can fill in in a few hours work. We spent many days working on our winning application in 07.
  21. Back in the day, Springfield college was a top level paramedicine program. Many of us grads from the winchester square school for troubled youth are still practicing in the field. Don't know how far you are from there, but worth considering. They also have a great P.A. program
  22. I've been called worse!!
