  1. there are quite a few folks that have done overseas EMS contract work over the past 15 years in the sandbox area of ops. How to advertise to them???? You could contact State EMS agencies and see if they have a help wanted page on websites. We had a bunch of folks back in the 90's from Maine went over on 12 month contract to Saudi for training purposes. Ads went out from state web serv list.
  2. Mature Lady Driver Older Woman: Is there a problem, Officer? Traffic Cop: Yes ma'am, I'm afraid you were speeding. Older Woman: Oh, I see. Traffic Cop: Can I see your license please? Older Woman: Well, I would give it to you but I don't have one. Traffic Cop: Don't have one? Older Woman: No. I lost it 4 years ago for drunk driving. Traffic Cop: I see...Can I see your vehicle registration papers please. Older Woman: I can't do that. Traffic Cop: Why not? Older Woman: I stole this car. Traffic Cop: Stole it? Older Woman
  3. don't mess with old guys An older man in Florida had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some orange, and lime trees. One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over. He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skin
  4. an understatement at the least. NJ is an island all of it's own when it comes to prehospital care. the land of the vollie FAS with million dollar halls with bars ,and hospital based ALS .
  5. thanks Rock: It has long been a sore subject with me after working through the heroin wars in Hartford Ct back in the mid 1980's. Far too many violent deaths caused by turf wars between rival drug distributors who were using young teens as their street delivery mules, and having muchitas keeping the stash in baby strollers as they walked the streets. Stop the drug problem at it's source and lock down the borders so it doesn't get here to start with. It can be done if the politicians wanted it to be done.
  6. we only go when the Yankmees are in town. They seem to have issues in beantown. Besides it an excuse to go to the big city a couple times a year
  7. I don't know many folks in our industry who are without worry when it comes to financial stability. At my age while we don't owe any large mortgages ,but still don't have enough to just walk away and retire without working some to pay the never ending property taxes and excise taxes and normal things like taking a trip down to see a red sox game at Fenway.
  8. Welcome to the city Did you just walk away from EMT and go off to college for the year without even contemplating EMS? I say this because most folks keep reading through the books and course materials afterwards. See if you can help at a local EMT class and sit in on some of the hands on sessions as a "victim" / helper. Check with your local Volunteer service to see when they have CEU classes being held. Most services do so at least once a month .
  9. not many are financially stable at your age. I know I wasn't and I had been married for 8 years. Mike offers very good advice from someone who's been there as a street provider and eggbeater jockey to going back to school and working his butt off to get his P.A. at an older age. My wife did a similar thing after being a teacher for 20 yrs with a M. Ed. She went back to school in her 40's and got her ADN and then on to get her BSN, which is pretty much needed any more to get hired in most large hospitals. Pay scale differences in Ct are huge from Paramedic to RN. close to triple the
  10. Welcome to the City: I grew up in EMS working the wild streets of Hartford back in the 1970's. Back then it was a dangerous place to work and I understand it has only gotten worse since. A slow Friday night would mean only a few shootings or stabbings . The heroin wars in north Hartford were at full tilt back then. With your degree law enforcement would seem to have been your goal in the future. How many places have you applied to? As far as firefighting and Paramedicine in CT: For every opening on a career department , there are hundreds if not thousands of applicants in the pool of
  11. thats pretty funny Ruff +1 Mike: any time I need a good laugh a trip to whale mart is in order. I don't often buy anything, just walk through and gawk at the foolishness that goes on there. if you need a gut buster just google women of whalemart on youtube.
  12. I will admit to having an issue with the lack of drug interdiction being done by this country. I will also admit to a personal bias against the the Afghan drug lords err politicians. My wife's brother was murdered by an Afghan security officer in the direct Employ of Karzi's brother. Paul was working as a Lepp training the Afghan police forces in drug interdiction and investigation. He & his team were putting a hurt on the Karzi boys distribution network so an order was put out to whack him & his partner. We are wasting thousands of lives and spending billions of dollars in
  13. sarcasm alert just what the world of drug addicts needs. A supervised shooting gallery where they can go & use illegal drugs in safety . they turned to heroin because the prescription opiates got much harder to obtain after we went through a 5 year span of time where it seemed like every other call involved prescription medication overdoses. Heroin is cheaper and easier to obtain on the street than diverted prescription drugs I say give them all the blow they can shoot snort or shove up their arse. They will be gone soon enough all on their own. Their addictions are breeding
  14. A husband and wife are shopping in their local Wal-Mart. The husband picks up a ...case of Miller Lite and puts it in their cart. 'What do you think you're doing?' asks the wife. 'They're on sale, only $10 for 24 cans', he replies. 'Put them back, it's a waste of money', demands the wife, and so he does and they carry on shopping. A few aisles further on along, the woman picks up a $20 jar of ...face cream and puts it in the basket. What do you think you're doing?' asks the husband... "It's my face cream. It makes me look beautiful,' replies the wife. Her husband retorts
  15. why not an automatic lip stapler for those 400 lb folks who waddle up to the fast food counter and say supersize me :: or mandatory sterilization to those with IQ's less than 75 :: or a law requiring folks to have a job with benefits before reproducing :: See , Even I can come up with hair brained ideas without having an MPH behind my name. how about putting serious efforts at removing the opiate supply so we didn't have millions of addicts? gee there's a novel concept How about getting rid of the afghan supply of black tar at it's source? Oh wait we wanted to do that , but th
  16. i figured she be decked out in JEEP rompers very sweet wee one. enjoy the early years.
  17. useful knowledge to have? Yes Ability to put into use in a real setting, probably not at this point in your young life. you will have plenty of time as an adult to worry about after you enjoy your teen years .
  18. check with your town office and find a phone number for the chief. Call and explain that you would like to join the Dept. That will at least get you a feeling for how well they will be willing to accept you into the fold. As a minor you cannot be allowed into IDLH environments by Dept of labor rules , but can help maintain equipment and trucks, participate in classroom trainings, and get to know how they operate. They may or not be willing to let you get involved as a minor, but most smart chiefs want to cultivate teens into becoming Volunteers to fill the ranks as the old guys retire o
  19. it is either a very good sign ::: or a bad sign. Odds are, it determined you knew what you were doing and pulled the plug. usually if you are doing bad, it will keep firing questions until you reach the point where you can't get a passing grade Congrats
  20. A big congratulations from Maine
  21. We have known each other for many years over web, I for one would be honored to work for a small service like yours that truly cares for it's employees, it's community , & providing the very best care possible to our customers. I consider you a legacy operator , continuing the example set by your parents. While some of the items on your list may be "nice to have" such as the rear video players, things such as the FLIR to prevent collisions with large wildlife are cutting edge use of technology. I remember when you started using the instant troponin test. We discussed them & you
