  1. Richard: I have the same but different problem. our distance from the transmitters makes us a fringe zone. We are really rural and before when we had analog we could get 3 or 4 channels in even if they had a little "snow" effect at times. When they switched to digital we got no channels in without bitmapped and morphed video. Audio was fair but little or no picture. I bought a digital amplified set of rabbit ears at best buy and now get 5 channels in with satellite quality reception in HD stereo. The secret is to have a flat panel antenna and the digital signal amplifier. The one I bought was made by Phillips, under $40.00.
  2. So who's ambulance service carries Oxycodone ??? Thats what he's accused of giving his wife and stealing ??????? WTF
  3. I'm guessing that texting is something you do with a cell phone ????? Boy am I glad we don't have cell service where I live, Don't own one!
  4. Just as I stated back in May after the incident with Paramedic White. This trooper needs to be taken out behind the woodshed and neutered. Then they should put his arse on the unemployment line. He is a disgrace to the law enforcement community. I wonder if there is any dash cam footage of this latest event?
  5. I'm not sure which is worse ; Trauma or Leno which comes on after
  6. I don't let a patients religion interfere with providing care. They called 911 for assistance. If they don't want our help ,don't call. I do respect that some religions have different beliefs than mine ,but that doesn't stop me from doing my best to give them relief and transport them to an appropriate facility. A similar thing occurred to us shortly after moving here to a small island community. We responded to a call for a severe stroke and as we walked in the door of the home at 3 am, the family looked at us and said" We don't know you and want to wait for a local to show up" My wife explained with the patience of a saint that if they wanted to wait for an "islander" to respond they had better call the funeral home and we would wait with them. There were no native Islanders on the rescue service!
  7. ruff: I destroyed my rt shoulder in 1985. I Took the less invasive steroids injections and physical therapy route for almost a year. [My doc was a sports medicine doc who was team doctor for a semi pro hockey team} After the year I had 90% of my strength back , but a limited range of motion Reaching above shoulder height was very painful. I had to be careful not to have it pop back out again {did that twice... OUCH....} I ended having two different surgeries to rebuild the joint and tighten up the ligaments. You learn what your limits are and just get the job done + learn to live with the pain. Cold packs work wonders ! 25 years later it is still holding up and the only real problems i have are calcium build up in the joint along with a little scar tissue thickening in the ac joint. Don't baby it or your shoulder will stiffen up. Find a good ortho specialist that works on pitchers and quarterbacks. I had mine fixed by the Red sox pitchers shoulder surgeon..
  8. Most states today use the NCIC system which has drivers records back 11, yes eleven years, Speeding tickets & moving violations will show , and crashes will only show if you were issued citations. Your record from other states will also be there . Moving violations and property loss accidents might tend to make an insurance company not want you to be an operator and that is what will decide if a company hires you. DUI's & criminal speed will also get you rejected by most reputable firms risk management dept's.
  9. The easy answer to solve this whole issue : Let the critically injured ILLEGAL die when brought to hospital. No million dollars wasted no lawsuits to fight, no repatriation to their home country. Why do we expect a hospital to pay for the expensive medical care for people that are not in this country legally? It's time we stop catering to those that don't belong here! This is not a racist or bigoted remark in any way. Let's start taking care of American citizens first and stop getting our knickers in a knot over an illegal alien. This lawsuit should never have been accepted by the court. If they want to sue ,then pay his medical bills first & then take your chances in the lagal system
  10. 1st thing to remember about the empire: They only care about the bottom line, not the patients or the employees. If they don't produce the required profit margin they will cut un-necessary expenses like crews and base stations. you will find yourself SSM in a ghandi mart parking lot or under a highway overpass whenever your not running your arses off. It's also not uncommon to have a truck with 250,000 miles or more on it to call your home 12 hours a day. I say this from past personal experience and from many places where they have come in and taken over contracts. They recently pulled out of many areas south of us because the contracts where not profitable to corporate. Then what?? . Your probably lucky that you haave a union contract to protect you but don't assume that all will be rosey at the timme of takeover. Good luck
  11. I saw news film of these parents today: Another reason for mandatory sterilization. They should not be allowed to reproduce. Hopefully they will be charged with child endangerment and conspiracy to murder. Remember BUBBA says " you can't cure stupid"
  12. lf he wasn't guilty ,then why did he pay 20 million to the little boy & his family to make it go away???? Another rich & famous drug addict dead! good riddance.
  13. It's time to send this trooper to the spay & neuter clinic for a tune-up for his aggessive tendancies !
  14. Check in with P-3 . He is a medic in beantown. Yes it is highly competitive and all new probies start out working as a basic, even if you already have your medic certs.
  15. We have had selective spinal immobilization as part of our statewide protocols for over ten years. In the beginning it was based partly on MOI. After the NEXUS study the criteria were rewritten to a more evidence based method of making the determination on whether to immobilize or not. The majority of the docs are 100% on board with our protocols as we have shown them we are capable of properly applying the SSI protocol in making a determination of probability of spinal injury. There is a 100% QA/QI on calls where the protocol has been applied to not immobilize and the results show it does work in not needlessly imobilizing customers that don't need it.
  16. Wheeled Roach is famoous for their electrical system gremlins. Could be a circuit breaker or relay or it could be just the junk quality of their electrical control systems.
  17. It's amazing how such a small insect can have such a profound reaction when biting a human being. Here we have black flies which are almost impossible to see. In the north woods we refer to them as the state bird. They have a set of teeth and get their blood meal by chewing on the victims skin and drinking up the blood. Most people just end up with a hard crusty lump and intense itching as a result. However a small percentage of the population suffer a severe allergic reaction like you described in your husbands case. Epi pens are around 52.00 for pedi and 68.00 for adult here in Maine.
  18. There is a large movement afoot by the NFPA to require sprinkler system in all new residential structures. They will not require retrofitting into older homes. System design can be for a wet or dry system that will eliminate any worry about pipes freezing in the attic space. The system maintains air pressure with a compressor to keep the system dry. If a sprinkler head opens, the air bleeds out and allows a check vale to open and allow water into the system to contain or extinguish a room & contents fire. Most systems of this type are in the 10 -15 k range including a storage tank for water if you are on a well. While having the system monitored for water flow is a good idea , it is not required to have a working system If you live in a rural area with long response time by the local fire department you may want to consider the fact that often the sprinker system will detect and extinguish the fire long before the FD will arrive on scene after being notified by a random paserby that there are flames shooting out of your roof. I have installed these system in new construction and the cost benefit is often saved by lower insurance premiums for the owner.
  19. Mandatory write offs or adjustments are caused when dealing with Medicare , or state care programs and some of the bigger HMO 's that only reimburse a set amount no matter what you bill for services. In other words if you bill $400 for a bls call + mileage they only pay $310 so you have to either write off the $90 difference or chase the pt to make it good. Part of the cost of doing 911 service. This is one of the reasons you see extremely high base rates in some areas.
  20. Revenue recovery averages around 60% for the majority. It depends if you are hard or soft billing. Are you chasing the pt's for cost not covered by insurance? Are you chasing uninsured pt's for payment? Do you take people to collections and force the percentages higher?
  21. You want 2 crews on duty but one crew is supposed to be asleep???? If second call comes in then they have to wake up & respond?? Are you paid for the entire 24? or just when on a call on your "off " 12 hrs.? Does the call volume require 2 crews in house or could you have the second on a 10 minute page? Need a little more info to give a response.
  22. Just get an Autopulse: Continuous compressions all the time, until you hit the stop button.
  23. Nat registry is not a license to practice. It is a certificate that says you have passed their testing with a passing grade. In some states the NR card is required to apply for licensure. It is used as a standard testing process so that the state EMS agencies don't have to spend the money to develop and update their own written exams. Outsourced to nat reg. Our state now has it as the testing at basic and Paramedic level but not at the intermediate level because our I's are more advanced than the nat reg I-99 testing levels. The national Registry is not a licensing agency their main focus besides bringing in revenue is political lobbying. I held a NR card for over 20 years because the states I worked in required it. I no longer carry it as it is not needed for re- licensure. It will not make you more educated or more employable just certified!
  24. One illegal Mexican down 7.5 million to go
  25. I was already a junior [11th grade] by the time I turned 15. We would have called a 15 yo freshman "SLOW" or turtle brained
