  1. (DELETED BY AK) and after talking to one of my male counterparts it is a pretty well visited spot as it does not require you to "join", it is free, and has no spam links that bite you when you click on it. Did I just do a porn commercial ???It has every conceivable act covered, or at least the ones I know about. AK--Its porn, we get it. We will not advertise it...thanks.
  2. I agree with you, as we all know people who walk around looking for reasons to be "offended" every day. I think lumping in everything that is offensive as "Harassment" is a bit of a stretch, especially on a first offense. If that is the case, I have already been harassed twice today and it is barely past lunch time.
  3. DFIB that is funny but so true. We have a world famous club in downtown Atlanta, and it is amazing that when a "sick call" comes out in that neighborhood, there are no trucks available although there are several ambulances sitting at the multiple ERs in the area, but when unconscious female call comes out at the strip club, the crews actually fight over which ambulance is closer, and they all seem to be able to clear the ER in like 3 minutes, whereas it always takes them 20-30 minutes to get 10-8 any other time.
  4. Talked with a corporate HR relative of mine who kind of backed-up what Herbie and Pmdcmike said. She states that she would have terminated also, reason being is that there is "tangible proof" that something happened. In her company's opinion (non EMS)it is safer to gamble with a wrongful termination suit than it is to do "too little" when the complainant has "proof". If it is he said/she said with no witnesses or proof then they tend to do a counseling that ends in the language of any further similar occurences will result in immediate termination. But if there is proof, you are gone, and it is the same rule for racial, age, religous discrimination and/or violence in the workplace. Anyone have a different view ? Guess I have been around fire stations too long to see the harassment.
  5. Found this in a google search, similar, but not the same ........... http://www.icemiller.com/enewsletter/InformedEmployerBriefing/PornSexualDiscriminationinWorkPlace.htm
  6. hmmmmm, seems we have different opinions on the matter, which is what I am getting here as well.
  7. So at one of our local municipal 911 services, a double-male crew was posting in between calls, 2 weeks ago, and decided to take advantage of local wi-fi to surf the internet using the company laptop. Unfortunately one of them (maybe both) thought porn would be a good thing to watch while they were bored. At some point they put the laptop away and thought they had closed it down. They did not get another call before end of shift. As the new crew comes on-duty and begins to log in for their shift, the porn page pops up, and from what I hear, it was not your typical porn, and was very disgusting by almost anyone's standards (I have to say, after I went to the site, I was even shocked and that is hard to do). The person who was signing in was a very religous female, and was quite offended by what she saw, and immediately showed it to a supervisor. So I figure, the guy will get written up or suspended for violating the county's porn policy, but instead he was fired, and the rumor is that the official charge was sexual harassment (can't say for sure since I do not work there, can only go by rumor mill for now). As a manager, I do not see this a sexual harassment, as he did not intentionally leave it there for her, nor did he view it in her presence. To me, this is the same as if one of the guys dropped a playboy out of his locker by mistake. Am I missing something here ????
  8. What flaming said dwayne that's what I believe. And my links showed how healthcare workers got in trouble doing less than this in some cases and refuted those that said it was not a violation unless it was electronically transmitted. Sorry I should have explained but was in a hurry. I don't think it matters how u use it, it is the way it is obtained, what if a medic kept a copy if every patient care report in a file at home. Complete with ss#s but didn't ever steal an identity?
  9. sorry ruff, did not see that, I apologize, but I think it would be a good discussion since we have folks claiming to know they are right, but are contradicting each other.
  10. I agree with you flaming, does not seem so "right" to cover things up when you look at it in another industry.
  11. Sorry Dwayne, you guys are way off on HIPAA, I hope Ruff's friend will come on here and give us an education on the topic, a simple google search provided multiple cases of HIPAA violations. I could put hundreds of links in here, here are a few: http://www.ehow.com/...violations.html http://www.emrandhip...awsuits-coming/ This one involves an EMT http://protogere.wor...ipaaviolations/ http://www.hhs.gov/o...s/allcases.html http://hamptonroads.com/node/620174 Protected Health Information. The Privacy Rule protects all "individually identifiable health information" held or transmitted by a covered entity or its business associate, in any form or media, whether electronic, paper, or oral. The Privacy Rule calls this information "protected health information (PHI)."12 “Individually identifiable health information” is information, including demographic data, that relates to: •the individual’s past, present or future physical or mental health or condition, •the provision of health care to the individual, or •the past, present, or future payment for the provision of health care to the individual,
  12. <p>Here is the whole thing, have to go to work, will read it thoroughly and report back: http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/hipaa/understanding/summary/index.html
  13. I don't think it has to be transmitted info, my understanding is that if I tell the girls at the beauty shop that joe blow has HIV then I have violated it Ruff how can your company enforce that policy? That is off the clock stuff
  14. I get what you are trying to say flaming in an altruistic sense, but that is not reality, there are BS calls
  15. Then why does if feel so "icky" ? Maybe its a female thang.
  16. Read about this on a social network: A female patient was transported by an EMS crew after a car accident (minor). A week later, one of the medics, calls her at home to check up on her condition (got her number from hospital face sheet) did not ask her for her information at time of call. He then segways the conversation into asking her out on a date. She declined, and was kind of laughing about it in the chat room. So here is the ethical question. He was guilty of violating HIPPA, and put the hospital at risk. But if you take that away, is he violating any ethics or morals by asking a former patient out on a date ? Instead of stealing her number, what if he bumped into her at the grocery store while off-duty ? It feels so wrong to me, but I can not pinpoint a real reason to say you should not do this.
  17. Its not an attitude, it is scientific fact, I am sorry if I came across as callous, but traumatic arrests rarely survive for the obvious reasons. And most helicopter services in our area will fly a pediatric arrest, just not adults. You are correct though, the article does not state the child was in arrest upon the arrival of fire/ems.
  18. No and Yes Doc --- there was no such thing as EMTB when I went, only EMTI. The way I look at it is that I took the 101 level (referencing college beginning classes like "English 101" as EMT), then took 201-202 classes as a medic. There were some things that were repeated (had to go over skeletal anatomy again) as you studied the body, but then many things were added on to the base knowledge (learned stroke symptoms in EMT school as related to the brain, learned the nervous symptom in medic school as related to the brain). But no, we did not go back over EMT stuff as a "review", we were expected to know the basics, I can not speak for everyone back then or today. In my opinion, since EMTBs are taught so little, I do not see why EMTB - or EMTI is even a prerequisite for Paramedic school. LPN is not a prerequisite for RN.
  19. I have to agree with Richard, there is no one-size fits all EMS/Fire System for every community. For all we know, every firefighter on the engine is a seasoned Paramedic, and as indicated by others, the response time was better than most urban systems. At the end of the day, this is an "I feel guilty about killing my baby, so I need to blame someone else for it". As with many citizens, this parent probably feels that if the patient would have made it to the ER in 10 minutes, "House" would have been on-duty and performed a life saving miracle. Traumatic arrest is traumatic arrest and it really does not matter when the ambulance arrives, especially when it is a child squished by vehicle (or at least 99% of the time I should say). Had a similar call here, young med student blows his brains out (literally almost all brain matter splattered on ceiling and wall - GSW through mouth); EMS called the patient dead at scene, family sued because they did not try to save him.
  20. Less than a call per day ? Do you get paid or are you volunteer ?

  22. Thought about starting a new topic, but I think it fits in this discussion. I was recently labeled a troll because I did not agree with the majority in the room on a topic. I do not believe I am a troll, but for the purposes of this discussion I will count myself as one, since that is how I was labeled. So I ask, if you could wave a magic wand and get rid of all of the trolls, what would EMTCITY look like ? Would it be better, maybe, but maybe not? I think I know (by peoples scores) which ones you consider trolls. Funny thing though, their posts seem to be the ones that get the most views and responses, and I believe some of those topics are very thought provoking, whether you agree with them or not. Next, I would ask for a clear definition of "A TROLL", as I imagine it differs from person to person.
  23. Good point ruff, how do you define medical error, we have an IFT service in the north atlanta area drop a patient off the stretcher, causing a massive head injury (coma now but lived), and then refused to transport because they were BLS, they actually called 911. How do you define that ?
  24. Looks like Herman Cain is in a little trouble for sexual harassment. Did he really think they would not find that info ? Now the question is, who is sabotaging him, Republicans or Democrats ? I vote Republicans, because democrats would have held on to it until the week before the election.
  25. McKesson has valium available in vials, but no bristojet type valium
