  1. Not funny at all. For all I know, mock executions (and this touches the subject) are listed as torture - so not really a succesfull prank.
  2. Would love to have Entonox - can`t see while we`re unable to make that step here. It would be a useful addition to our trucks as well as to our competences (we could be allowed to give it and therefore reduce the calls for the emergency physician for analgesia in minmal to moderate cases, seeing that it has only minor side-effects and a really short half-life). @systemet: From your experience: Is the combined use of Entonox and anti-emetics sensible in these cases of nausea, or would you rather switch to another drug if the pat. develops such symptoms?
  3. Just saw this - hilarious!!
  4. We used to carry Ketamine, right now, we carry Ketamine S (Esketamine). Though since no one seems to be a hundred percent sure wether the hypnotical side-effects are really erased (or significantly reduced) or not, it`s a bit ridiculous in my eyes, since we still give it only with benzos (this is actually the second time we`ve got Esketamine, after some time we swapped again, then again,... can`t they just decide what they want ?)
  5. Gotta say, I`m a big friend of Ketamine, too. Only had good experiences with it, and I`ve seen it in use quite often. Of course, we`re not allowed to push it ourselves (well, push yes, but Doc`s gotta give the order), but still....
  6. Yeah, but I`d slowly prepare them for the possibility - like " they are doing all they can, but it`s possible that X is not going to survive". Explain them about SIDS and that it`s not their fault.
  7. I can guarantue you that I like my cold bottle of beer or my lovely glass of french or italian (or south-african - you should try these ones) dry red wine. Still, the context was what you`d like as a snack at work.. And even around here (Europe), you wouldn`t find anyone with a bottle of beer or a glass of wine sitiing around the station. P.S.: I`m letting that remark about Europe being the only civilized part of the world beneath the US slip, because I`m tired.
  8. Why would you do that? @crazydoc: Could you classify what chair you are exactly reffering to? When it comes to the rubber handles, the most annoying thing is, that they tend to rotate around the handle. When you have rubber handles which are modelled to fit into your fingers when gripping the handle, this is more than uncomfortable (and slippery!).
  9. Waaah?! What am I gotta do? Shall I apply for that Paramedic Science course in Britain? Or not?! But I guess I`d really like to study in Britain?! Bur dos it has to be Paramedicine?! I mean, there are other things... But above all: It`s already so freaking late to make these decisions for the year to come!

  10. Oh, but yes. But in my mind that move is somehow linked with the direct pressure, so that`s what I meant.
  11. Hm... first, direct pressure. If that doesn`t work, Tourniquet (we are not allowed to bring our lightsabers into work - a shame!). Then lines, O2, possible pain management, get the rest of the arm and let`s go (though I`m guessing, that the edges of the wound`ll be too messy to get it easily back on).
  12. What about Buscopan (butylscopolamin)? Didn`t read it in that context anywhere. How is that going to improve her possible lung edema? Or did you mean CPAP?
  13. How do you define "a whole lot of"? Or what do you mean with wine? `Cause the wine I know, doesn`t fit into the statement above...
  14. Hm... Cigarettes ( ), Fisherman`s Friends, NicNac`s and with Chocolate filled Croissants do my day (reading this words again, makes me realize how shallow my life expectation is ).
  15. Hm, I can be sympathetic towards muslims today, just as much as I can be sympathetic towards christians/christianity on the 27th of November when Pope Urban II. screamed "Deus Io vult" to start more than a hundred years slaughtering of muslims. That`s simply due to the fact, that a religious background/orientation isn`t synomymous to a religious related terrorist act, just because it`s the same religion.

    Such a tragedy

How very true. We always see only a momentum in the life of our patient and because that`s the only impression we get of him/her, we (unconsciously) define him through that picture, though we should never forget, that there is a whole story behind that moment, that leads to us being there. My condolensces and I wish you the strength to get through this hard time as best as you can.
  17. True - I always carry Fisherman`s Friends, and they really help with bad smells. Though, to be true, I don`t carry them for that purpose, but `cause I`m addicted to them... Also, just stay in the vincinity of the smell for about five minutes, then the smell adaption kicks in and you don`t really care for it anymore - but if you go out of the room or some metres away and then back in the "smell zone", you`ll start from the beginning again.
  18. I`ve always tried learning through understanding, not only through memorizing the information. Of course, you gotta memorize it in the end, but if you try to understand certain ways of reactions, I`ve always found it easier to get to learn the facts. So, instead of only reading through the facts over and over again - try to think them through, like: What does Adrenalin? What effects does it have, what can happen if you overdose? Seeing the way it reacts, what would be contraindications? Etc...
  19. I could answer to that, but first of all we had this topic before in another discussion, and secondly: http://www.emtcity.c...post__p__264224 -> I don`t want those poor kittens hurt! Just one thing: In my opinion, stereotypes only exist, so that people who are too lazy or unable to think for themselves, can at least rely on something.
  20. Which might also be interesting: Borreliosis. Had a pat. a while ago, presenting himself with typical stroke symptoms, met him two days later, he was diagnosed with borreliosis.
  21. Same here, possible pulmonary embolism was the first thing that crossed my mind, too.
  22. I`d also say nothing to worry about. A buddy of mine has no facial hair at all, other than some lone whiskers on his upper lip - with 25. Know of another guy having no beard at all who did training with me - so it`s not that uncommon.
  23. Just a question to the US members, that may help the OP. Is there an organisation, that may help one to transfer his/her qualification into an US context, similiar or like this UK agency -> http://www.naric.org.uk/
  24. Definately! Personal safety always comes first so much for the book. Anything else`s your own beer. I`d say that depends on a various number of factors. To which extend can you analysis the situation and the rivers torrents? Are you in any way trained to do a swiftwater rescue? Are you a good swimmer? Experience in river torrents? Etc... Also, there`s much more to a water rescue than jump in, grap patient, get out. So, if untrained...
  25. I`m only speaking out my thoughts here, since I don`t know the thoughts of American recruiters, but at least I can guess. First, I think, you wanna decide what you really want. A degree in Archeology might let recruiters think - wow, he`s got a degree in Archeology, but nothing more. Honestly, I doubt that it will give you any benefit if you really think about working in EMS fulltime and building a career there. Sure, it might be interesting (tell me about it, I`ve planned to study Archeology or History for the most part of my teens - just where did I go astray??? ), but it might be - and I`m doing this in captions for a good reason - a "timewaste" if you think your future lies in EMS...?! I just imagine, that if you`ve undergone a study in a certain subject - you wouldn`t want it to be just Plan-B. It certainly wouldn`t do you any good with your dreams of being a SWAT-Medic (search for some threads here,ít`s really hard to become one). After school I planned to study medicine, but somehow got into EMS first, now I`m thinking moving to Britain to study Paramedic Science. My recommendation: Inform yourself about the subjects (EMS as well as your possible future degree, may it be Archeology or something else) very thoroughly, try to decide what you really want, weigh up your options - and then just do what you feel most comfortable with. Just my humble thoughts... P.S.: I think after a certain amount of time it isn`t possible anymore to edit posts.
