  1. Boy, I dunno.. The pics of the girl in the wreck from the CHP photos was, wow.. gory to say the least. I've seen shot gun injuries to the head, but not body between speeding car and solid concrete. There was a lot of matter on the ground. Not really a decapitation, more like a severe crush injury with evacuation of the cranium. Still, had I never seen anything like that and didn't have the ability to prepare myself mentally, you know what I mean, I probably would have vomited. If I knew that was my child, first, I'd probably go into total emotional shock, then I'd vomit.. then I would kill who ever sent it to me.. and maybe sue afterward.. The least you could do w/ the cash is educate youngsters to SLOW THE F*CK DOWN.. eh?
  2. That's where you volunteer to be on a schedule, and if there's a call, they pay you by the call or by the hour, etc.
  3. The only reason I remember, is because while on said call, I missed the largest fire of that decade.
  4. Drunken elderly man fell backwards off a lawn chair. No biggie.
  5. How about some fake news? http://centralpagazelle.blogspot.com/index.html
  6. Find me a picture of Homer Simpson, driving an ambulance.
  7. Ohhh.. Your going for EMS.. Not firefighting. Here's what you need to learn in EMS. Eyes, ears, hands, feet.. and a large pack of good pens, and several legal pads.
  8. Wouldn't matter. Even though I NEVER take off my bracelet, not having that information shouldn't change how you treat me.. An unconscious, unknown medical patient w/ no info. It certainly can't hurt to have the info.. But if what is on the tag, is in progress, your training should help you recognize the signs, and put to use the proper treatment.
  9. Why did she need a backboard for a twisted ankle..? And where the hell was her means of flotation? The report that I googled said that she had no flotation device. So, even if they did unstrap her, she still may have drown. I'd like to see this "rescue litter". If it's on water, it should at least be a rescue basket with flotation tubes on the sides and head end (to make the foot end sink, and keep the head end above water). One could read into this that it may have been the first time it was used for this type of rescue (in view of the public). Perhaps showing off, inviting extra crews to board. Wearing duty boots and clothing..? I hope that doesn't mean structural fire boots, and god forbid turnout gear. Most (smart) TOG manufacturers will put right in the booklet, TOG is NOT meant for any type of operations involving rescue from water. Even standing in an area where flash flooding, or high water is in progress. May as well put on some lead boots. Were any of them wearing water rescue gear, or even trained for it? I KNOW IT WASN'T A WATER RESCUE.. BUT.. They were on a boat.. in the water.. They should be dressed for water rescue. EVERYONE ON BOARD. This just needs a big WTF stamp. Botched my ass.. They are fucking stupid. They weren't rescuing anyone, they were playing. The OIC or whom ever was in charge of this "operation" should have his ass thrown in jail for blatant negligence and endangerment of every soul on board and of those who had the job of further rescue and recovery. Most air boats are not meant for fast currents, ex: rivers.. They are great on ice, anywhere.. Swamps.. Lakes.
  10. Then I hope the EMT/Medic/etc.. isn't a complete moron..
  11. One of everything in the Galls catalog. If it looks cool, buy three.
  12. the little piece of paper in my wallet was free...

  14. A $6.99 topper, bride dragging groom, with wagon wheels painted on the shirt and a scope painted on with a $1.99 mini first aid box.. for $99?
  15. It is unlikely that she joined in October 06, just to post this in February 07. I would assume she chose to join EMT City, because she is an EMT. [sigh] Perhaps one could assimilate the number of inactive users to the number of users who add a little bit of negativity to each and every thread? Actually, Leann is in chat quite often, and I find her presence welcome and enjoyable. I wish her good luck on the path she chooses.. and yes, we will leave the light on.
  16. What in the hell would you need a syringe of blood for in a dorm room?
  17. One would have to assume it has something to do w/ alcohol..
  18. I like to carry my brain w/ me, b/c it won't look very good to the pt. if you sit there reading a book to figure out how to treat them.. But I bought a PDR for each ambo to have on hand for medication look ups for the PCR, or to assist w/ poison contol matters.. I.e. correct spellings, uses, etc.
  19. now read the whole thing b/c I'm not on anyones side Not a good example.. Not many towns with a hundred people or less cannot outright buy a fire apparatus or ambulance.. We have 900, and couldn't do that.. Low population, tax base isn't strong enough to support something of that size and Fequency of use. Then again, if a perfect answer could be given for this, it would have been done thirty years ago. eh? Edited: The topic is derailed... Just like EMS.
  20. Anyway you take it to them, the ADA will probably try and fight to accommodate him. But whom will that benefit? A possible legal battle for your squad? It's already a PITA to be a volunteer. If I had to go to court to defend the need for a quick response, I would. However, if I were forced by the long arm of the law to "work" under conditions that will only benefit a disabled EMT, rather than a patients life, or the community at large.. I'd quit. You may not see it that way, but it will cause problems. But you can't make people wait for an ambulance, so you don't offend one of your members. I'm all for disabled persons living freely, and doing as they please; but it stinks when people have to put themselves in a position that could possibly do harm for countless individuals. How many people would it affect if the service was sued by X organization that heard of the troubles if it went through ADA.. vs. how many if it was just one person walking away? How would his disability affect his ability to perform other functions as an EMT? Not lifting, but bending, accessing a patient, kneeling to a patient, doing CPR, etc? Somethings cannot be avoided.
  21. I understand it perfectly well.. I'm not talking about procedure then, v.s. what is done now.. I'm talking about obvious, on camera, unscripted mistakes. I'm also aware of the connections. Otherwise, I wouldn't have used it as an example..
