  1. Richard yes it is all EMTs on the mountain not just me. I have met her. She saved my DD actually when the RN who did not look at my DDs allergy bracelet and administered Rocephin (allergic to it) and DD went into anaphalaxys at a young 8 mos.
  2. Thanks!! I may do that today. I am not working today. The Med Control is Dr Gifford at Memorial so I am a bit surprised that she feels that way. It HAS been a struggle here in CO to find a job. Even tho the $ is not great but It beats working at Mc Donalds. Even tho their pay is likely more lol... Who knows... I am just happy I et to work and work somewhere so pretty. Funny thing is there is at LEAST 2 of us on the summit, up to 7 at times. But EMS is supposed to meet the Cog Trains at the top and do a sweep assessment of tourists getting off the train. That should be fun!! (No sarcasm it should be fun watching them get acclimated) Edited to erase a double post.
  3. I FINALLY got a job!!! For those of you who know something about me I have not worked a "real" job in the last 11 mos. (With the exception of a movie I was makeup artist on and standby EMS) Unable to find a job here mostly, but I also was ill for 6 mos too with pancreatic issues. But money is/still will be tight but it will be easier to breathe and bills will be paid. The money is not what I would like but it is a job for now. So that makes me happy! Well Tuesday I was looking on Craigslist (yea I know) and I found a job I wanted to apply for. I made arrangements to go fill out an app the next day. I was hired before I even finished my application. I am working as an EMT on the top of Pikes Peak (Americas Mountain). I started yesterday, tomorrow on the Peak. The same place where "America The Beautiful" was either written or inspired. I will be able to go up to to the summit for free (a 35$ save) Being on there daily will likely get OLD after a while. This also means for me I can get on the SAR team here. Yaay!! This is what I love to do and working in EMS in such a beautiful area is even better. The weather conditions will be TERRIBLE at times. Times I will not even be able to get down the mountain. The Cog Rail will be my only way of transportation. (Costs 33 bucks for visitors) So It will be interesting to say the least. The summit is 14,110 feet with cliffs up to 3,000 feet (I think) in areas. So mostly I will be doing altitude sickness and some heart, falls and etc. Anyone who works/worked on a mtn or has exp with altitude issues, please let me know what else I can expect. My SOPs are WEIRD!! No meds up there via Med Control (altitude reasons I suppose) except O2. Pts must have own meds and my skills are limited. I will not even carry an epi pen, nitro (reasons unknown). Which is stupid because the rangers will take pts down and rescue can be up to an 1 1/2 depending on weather for als. If ANYONE has any info as to why this would be a SOP please let me know. I am from Colorado but am not a Mountain Girl so I am not too familiar with meds and effectiveness in altitude. I asked about not doing something when I am supposed to. She said Med control knows and not to worry. If someone has issues with this protocol then to take it up with Med Control She also stated the company has DEEP pockets and Medical Lawyers.
  4. No idea about the location BUT dont forget to go to Emerils Restraunt at the Venation Hotel!!
  5. HUNGOVER!! UGH.

  6. Why am I the one to get picked on: *Sniffle sniffle* Seriously. I enjoy reading your posts. PLEASE do not stop posting, your words and insight are valuable to me and every other newish provider on here. I learn soo much more than you know from "Old Timers" not OLD as in age but folks who have been there and done that while I am still learning. I LOVE to learn. Hell I feel stupid a lot reading the posts, so much education so little time to google :0.
  7. This post is EXACTLY why I had the gastric bypass.I can imagine how embarrassing having FD and EMS providers need help to lift me. how sad. I was 305 at my highest weight now I am not I am a LOT smaller 160ish, I feel better and dammit I look HOT now I have had some problems but nothing I would take back. Being a size 24 in womens (54 ish in mens) to a 8 in womens (34ish in mens) tends to make ya feel much better about things. Also helps me to have compassion for those who are heavy. Dosent mean that I dont look the same way most do. Just more compassionate. Carry on!
  8. Is not wearing any pants!!

  10. Hey Doc!! How are you? Been a LONG TIME since we talked. I miss our chats!! Hope things are FANTASTIC!!!

  11. WTG Grandpa for saving the baby!! But hopefully next time you will notice a pregnancy under your own roof and you can get your child help. I can not imagine having to save my own grandchild like that. http://badbreeders.net/2010/06/22/nev-teen-almost-got-away-with-baby-dumping/ Nev. teen almost got away with baby dumping Trench Reynolds Teen mom arrested in pregnancy cover-up, plot to dispose newborn: Only by the grace of God did this baby survive. Anyway, 18-year-old Sarah White of Henderson, Nevada has been charged with the attempted murder of her own newborn. She had told her family that she was not pregnant and that she was just gaining weight. Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t pregnancy look a lot different than someone who is ‘just gaining weight?’ White’s mom was suspicious though as she tried to get her daughter to take a pregnancy test. White is said to have delivered the baby in a bathtub in her parents’ house. White’s mother found her daughter on all fours in the bathtub and the newborn in a white plastic bag purple and unresponsive. Luckily White’s father is a paramedic and was able to resuscitate the baby. When police investigated the residence they found the white trash bag and two kitchen knives sealed in a black trash bag. The newborn is now in the custody of Catholic Social Services and is up for adoption. Considering both my wife and myself were adopted from CSS I think the baby is going to be just fine. This doesn’t sound like one of those cases where the teen was afraid of what her parents would do if they found out she was pregnant. To me this just sounds like somebody who was selfish and irresponsible who didn’t want to have a baby crowding their life.
  12. Thanks Hun! I just REALLY need a job here... That is the BIGGEST Thing I need right now. To be able to get on my feet and take care of my kid like I need to. I just can not do it right now.
  13. So much has happned within the past year and a half. To begin most of you dont know me or much about me. I am 31 getting divorced cause my husband cheated on me and got my friend knocked up. We split up I met someone 7 mos later and then we moved in together "officially" in Sept of 09. Things have been rough to say the least I got sick in Jan with pancreatitis and have JUST got my feeding tube out this past week. NOW my boyfriend and I are splitting up. (He is packing as I type) We also have been having some problems mostly because of his drinking. And his treatment of my daughter, he is a real ass to her. My own family has commented on it. This would be why I am living in a freaking hotel right now. So tomm I will have to move because my EX has not sent me the $ he is supposed to send me every month. I am phucked. To say the least. I have JUST gone to the store also to get food to make a wonderful fathers day for him. (so I have a whole fridge of food) no where to put it. Please keep me and my DD in your prayers I may not be on here but I will be "here" so to speak.

It hurts not going to lie but it is not a long term hurt. Big pinch/poke and hopefully they wont have to dig to get the vein. I wont let anyone near my hands cause someone once or twice got a nerve in my hand.
  15. Hey all, Happy Fathers Day! I found out this am that my friends son passed away he was 4 mos old and a twin. I don't know if it was sids or what. She is distraught as anyone who is a parent would imagine they would be. PS.If ya all are praying folks please pray for their loss, if not please send well wishes and thoughts their way. Life is hard for them they live in a motel for crying out loud. Baby passed at grandmas home on the couch laying next to mom.
  16. I have one that looks like this. It is the Littman master classic cardiology (I think) I think it was about 175.00 LOVE IT!! You can hear a mouse fart with it! I got my at the University of Washington State Med Bookstore.
  17. I am so sorry for what has happened. That sucks. My ex husband this is why my user name is Mrs.Bull we are not together or have been for over a year and a half.(irritates me when I see it on here). Cheated on me several times during our marriage and knocked up my friend. I so understand everything you are going thru. I was the one who was ALWAYS there for him. He is in the Army and when he was in Afghanistan I was the one who was faithful he was the one who was sleeping around. A total of 8 (I think) other women. One of which used MY CAR!! 3 WEEKS after we had been married!! Now I am trying to do it on my own. With my DD. I know how it is to be the one who gives and gives and gives and gets shit upon. I hope things get better and you get your things back. Good Luck hun not all women are like that. At least I am not.
  18. Very true, the adrenaline and/or task at hand often can "mask" the smell at times. However when my DD was a ball of ooze when she was little rarely did it bother me til she started solids. She is like me (a sympathetic puker) I have told pts that before as well. There are some smells that can get in the way of doing your job to be able to overcome the distraction mostly. Vicks can work as well as air freshner (lysol or the like) that also disinfects (after a pt is away). Until the fluids are gone (pt is where they are headed normally). Any smells that you just cant get out? Decay perhaps??? What else can/do you do to get the smell that seems to stay out of your nose?
  19. Yes Vicks does help! I suppose it is mostly the smell that gets to me more than vomit or feces as well. Chunks still have an ick factor to me too.
  20. I was just checking this website out it is a branch off of People of walmart. Most of them if not all are drunk an passed out in vomit or some other "fluid". Frankly it is gross and I saw some pages not the whole site. It was not something that is entertaining. I like funny things as much as the next person but this was just gross. It got me to thinking I am not good with vomit, most others I can handle BM grosses me out too but you just get thru it. What grosses you out and how do you "make it thru a call"?
  21. Check out his FB page. Last night he was at that hospital up the street from there. Heart+Altitude made him gain 30 lbs last I heard he lost 23 of it. OK found the page. Marcia Wilson message from Ian onto his facebook page: Unfortunate turn..I've been in a hospital in Colorado for the past 21 hours, heart issue arose at high altitude causing 30 lb weight gain. Have dropped 23 in the last 12 hrs. Still trying to get discharged and get back in the race. Keeping my fingers crossed.(yesterday around 11 am) (yesterday around 4pm) Marcia Wilson Update from Ian's facebook: I'm writing this from my room at the hospital in Colorado and have had many tears with my wife Michelle and Leanne Kaay. The tests have been run, cat scan, blood work, EKG etc and the cardiologist feels that my ascents thru the race at multiple elevations (7,000 to 11,000 ft) combined with ...other factors brought on pulmonary edema...he's recommending that I do not continue....this is hard... (about 11 pm last night) Leanne Fisher Ian and crew - completing 1145miles in just over 4 days is an amazing accomplishment and a reflection of everyone's passion and dedication to the race and the goal to end MS. There are very few who would even consider taking on a journey of this scale. The risk involved in RAAM is great – I’m relieved that the decision... is for Ian to take the time to recover and get healthy again. My thoughts are with you and the team. You are an inspiration to so many! Looks like he is out of the race. He looks to still be in Trinidad Co tho. Awesome job 1,145 miles in 4 days!! Taken from http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=85090489887&v=wall I also saw another guy doing the race as well at Safeway when I was down there. I dont know what his cause was tho.
  22. Lol!! Just get X-Ray Glasses that is all anyone needs. Why pay thousands for a machine when all you need to do is go to the joke store and pay 2 bucks. Hmmph There is your new "health care bill".
  23. Something like that is classic a keepsake and collectible. Owning it has meaning. Got and pics of it?
