  1. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend! That coupled with work stress can be a nasty combination. Take some time to step back and look at the good stuff in your life...that helps to take the focus off the bad. BTW, don't take reviews too seriously. I've been accused of not being a "team player" in the past when I told management that their sucky idea sucked. Good managers will recognize an employee with valuable ideas. Bad managers you don't want recognizing you anyway.
  2. Strong work young lady! I like it....
  3. I've been gone for few days and missed all this! Glad to hear Cheeky and the baby are doing much better.
  4. You don't realize what you don't know until you realize what you don't know. Good job on recognizing that. Move on, kick ass, take names, never forget where you started (i.e. - don't treat the newbie like a piece of turd).
  5. It takes effort to be progressive. Most would rather not exert themselves and prefer to coast....
  6. Plain blue background. After years of building computers, aceing my Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer course in 2003 and generally being the alpha geek of my family, I've found that simple is beautiful. As the old saying goes, you can see forever on a clear disk. That seems more appropriate than "always mount a scratch monkey" anyway....
  7. I worked for a few years in a Jewish cemetary and the owners were both concentration camp survivors with the "tattoos" to prove it. I personally hope no one ever has to really "know" what they experienced in those camps...that's a part of our history that should be not be forgotten, but should never be experienced by anyone again. In regards to tats; do whatever you will with your body. Just don't be surprised if someone is a bit taken aback by your flaming dragon tattoo on your forehead.
  8. That's no way to get ahead in life...
  9. Norton Antivirus and Windows Defender seem to do a good job of keeping things clean. That and staying off the porn sites....
  10. Everyone has worked with "marginal" partners; from piss poor providers to just plain annoying. Every now and then you get one that is a dyed-in-the-wool sociopath...now there's a good time. I worked with one gent who liked to gross his partners out. I'm sitting in the front seat eating a sub and he picks his nose, holds it right in front of my face and says "jeesus! I think that things got a nucleus!". Erg.
  11. Why not just study some more and retake the NR test? Do you have to take an entire EMT class again just to retest?
  12. Hmmm...seems medics need more education to make these types of decisions. Shocker. Medic courses are measured in hours. A medical doctor's eduction requirements are measured in years...
  13. God's way of telling you ya done screwed up.
  14. Ripped a dog run out of a tree once. It was high enough that you couldn't see it and the two cruisers ahead of us pulled in just fine (suicide attempt). Just caught the top of the box and it made a hellacious sound when the tensioner bounced off the side. Almost forgot; took out all the side lights on the box due to an overhanging tree and heavy fog. Couldn't see the tree due to the fog and it was just at the right angle to bust every light cover and bend the snot out of the exhaust vent. Nothing like calling your fire chief at 11:30pm to tell him that one.
  15. I was planning on going until family commitments snatched me away.
  16. I used to warn other drivers of speed traps when I was younger and drove faster. Now that I'm older and slower (in more ways than one) I don't feel the need. I do believe that all of us have seen a cop ahead and checked our speedometer to discover we're travelling faster than the posted speed limit. It happens and I don't believe it makes you a menace to travel 10mph over the limit. It will, however, get you a fine and six years of surcharges on your insurance. It also is big business. Tickets are big business
  17. Write a book (a good one) See my kids grow up to be happy and successful Travel a lot Die before I have to wear a diaper Have someone approach me and say "Knowing you has made a positive difference in my life"...
  18. In regards to the medical patient that is also an uncontrollable psych: the PD is simply there to assist in getting them restrained. Once I have them restrained then I can start treating properly. I don't think I've seen anyone saying that all psych patients get a PD response....only the ones that want to harm/kill us. I've only had one of these that posed a real threat (maybe two) and he wasn't restrained. He only became agitated when we were close to our destination. He also outweighed me by about 75lbs and spent most of the ride regaling me with stories of how he had dreams of killing the staff at the psych facility we're heading to. That was the longest transport of my life....
  19. Definitely get the blue canaries on scene to help ASAP. NEVER restrain someone face down! Damn hard to protect the airway in that position. No hog tying or spine board sandwich ether. We carry a pretty decent set of heavy nylon restraints in one rig and soft restraints in the other. I've used the nylon ones only once, but they worked well. More than once I've had PD handcuff my patient to the board and then I've strapped them down snugly. Spitters get a NRB.

  21. Very sorry to hear about your loss. What a terrible tragedy...
  22. While Spenac's method will work, I prefer something a little less damaging. Try inserting an NPA. That seems to rouse all but the most determined fakers. BTW, whatever you do, don't just assume she's faking....treat her as a legit patient and let the hospital deal with her. The one day you are convinced you have a faker on your hands is the day you're working the code you were totally unprepared for. Seen it too many times.
  23. A previous partner of mine was pre-med and an EMT-B. She had knowledge well beyond that of any EMT-B I've ever worked with and she was great with the patients. Her cardiology was amazing.
