LifePak 500

The LifePak 500 manual indicates that every day at 0300, the AED will conduct a diagnostic self test. Is the AED off, normally, at 0300? If so, that's probably the self test (either the "routine" or "extended", depending on how many days it's been sitting). Not sure what the clicking actually is, but it's probably "normal" if it's always done it. Or you could run the full diagnostics on it...

Alternatively, it's waiting for you to touch it when it does it, then it's curtains! Of course, this requires sentience on the part of the device.

I would suspect the two clicks are the "Zap 'em!" relays clicking closed then open again as a contact test...remember, this little sucker directs a good amount of energy through itself in an emergency, so the relays are probably fairly beefy...I imagine you'd hear the same clicks if you were using the AED, but in that scenario, you're probably too busy worrying about the pt to listen for the clicks...

yep.. I agree..it's a self test... I remember the sales rep telling me about that when we purchased ours.

I am more curious than anything. I used a lifepak 500 early on my career for about two months, in which it was replaced with a Zoll PD1400 due to having the pacer option.

My question for all is did the Lifepak 5 ever come with a pacer as I remember there was no external pacer on the unit I carried.

Is there a lot of services still using the Lifepak 500?

It would be amazing to know how times the lifepak 500 has saved lives, as it is the "Ole reliable".

Anyone know the year it made it's debut?

Yeah my bad.. I was unaware we were speaking of two different devices, Lifepak 5 and the Lifepak 500 two separate devices.

My bad...it's good to laugh at yourself every now and then..
