  1. With the Navajo I asked to marry me came back with the "Let's just be friends" speech, I actually was willing to wait, as I was then a senior teen, or very early 20s (explanation re "the Navajo" on PM request, only!"). With the fiancée from Teaneck NJ, me in Belle Harbor NY, my needs and desires changed during and over those 9 years. When I first started dating Lady J, I actually told her I didn't want to scare her off, so I was going to go the so-called traditional route of not even attempting to kiss her until the 3rd date. Then, perhaps the most important thing: on that third date she kissed me back! As for the posting being TMI, just remember the T-Shirt: We already do the TMI, as I've been caught talking about gory ambulance cases in the restaurant without noting how it grosses out other diners. Don't lie, we've all done it at some point, unintentionally.
  2. I could have had any girl or woman I pleased. I just didn't please any of them! Seriously, Lady J was my first actual intimacy, even with the 9 year engagement to my ex fiancée ("NOT UNTIL WE'RE MARRIED, RICHARD!").
  3. Not all of these EDP calls work out that way, and some have some really evil potential. With an IFT ambulance service, transport from Manhattan (NYC, NY) Veterans to another VA facility about an hour and a half travel time away. Instead of pickup by the ER, we were directed upstairs, to what turned out to be a lockdown ward. Staffers took the stretcher from us, put the patient, already wearing a straightjacket, onto it, then put on ankle and wrist restraints to further fasten him down. As they passed me the key, they told me he had also had been given "chemical restraints". They then handed me a sealed manila envelope containing the transfer orders. My ambulance was an open design, clear view of everything from steering wheel to back door. I was "tech-ing" , and, due to the lock ward staffers actions, and them telling me the patient was stable, I opted to sit in the front, sitting side saddle, if you will, to keep an eye on the patient. Roughly a mile from the receiving facility, my partner and I suddenly smelled cigarette smoke. The patient had one arm free, and had lit up his cigarette with it! I went over to the patient, advised him no smoking, took the smoke from him, tossed it out the window, and now sat down by him on the crew bench. On arrival at the upstate VA hospital, we took the patient, stretcher and all, in to the admissions office. The admissions officer, after glancing at the transfer orders, directed us to reload, and accompanied us to a different building on the campus. After leaving the patient (with the key to all the restraints) in the care of the staff, we returned the admissions officer to his office. The officer had a copy of the transfer orders in his hand, which he then was scrutinizing. He asked if we had read the report. Nope, it was sealed against us. He then suggested we read any ands all patient transfer paperwork, as the patient was a known homicidal/suicidal patient! Sidenote: After that, I always read transfer orders, and encouraged all partners to do likewise.
  4. Sounds kind of like you don't have a leg to stand on. Sorry, my "Pun"ishment gene sometimes takes over. Still hope you both feel better soon, and get back on your ambulance as a crewperson.
  5. Overheard on company radio: "How the hell could you just let the Ambulette run out of fuel? That 'E' on the fuel gauge does NOT stand for ENOUGH!" PS: After the manager brought a filled gas can and partially refueled the stuck truck, and the driver driven the vehicle first to the authorized gas station, then to the base, where the driver was almost immediately fired. After looking up that name, must presume the name is more commonly known in New South Wales than the USA.
  6. A show of hands, please... How many of us has ever walked in on a patient, no matter the call assignment, and found the patient, or even a family member, smoking a cigarette, cigar, or pipe, while sucking oxygen from mask or cannula? Me, for one.
  7. That seems to be the way Lady J and I are doing this.
  8. During those years, I had few friends. I've lost contact with several of them, don't want to lose contact with any more of them. As for the ladies, I realize the fires are out, the embers no longer glow, but some warmth remains. I lost contact due to time and distance, nothing else. We all get caught up in the here and now, neglect the past. I'm just trying to keep up a small, pleasant part of my past, considering all the negativity I went through. Not knowing Emergentologist, the wife, or you personally, are you sure you want to continue on that road?
  9. I just started a new string on non EMS matters, and want to take a "Public Opinion". Look for "Old Friends/Book Ends".
  10. With apologies to Simon and Garfunkle, just asking: With my girlfriend, "Lady J's" OK, I have contacted a former girlfriend, who after moving out of the community, I lost touch with from roughly 1980. Lady J has had lunch with my ex fiancée, and spoken with the woman I would have married, had she not given me the "Let's just be friends" answer. Had I not had my platonic (yes, I wanted more!) relationships before I met Lady J (second time, long story only on request), she feels I wouldn't have become the individual she loves. Due to me being 59 years old, quite happy with the 24 year relationship with Lady J, and merely hoping on reestablishing contact with friends from long ago, that due to time and distance, I have lost contact with, Lady J is on board with me for contacting the "old gang". A buddy of mine feels both Lady J and I should have our heads examined, that Lady J should be afraid or threatened for our relationship due to this. What say youze guyz from EMT City? FYI, the lady I contacted ( 2 years my junior, widowed during the divorce proceedings, living in Florida, 24 year old son) introduced me to the lady who declined the marriage proposal (either a year younger or older than me, in her at least 3rd marriage, mother/stepmother/guardian of 11, lost count, or so she jokes, on grandkids. She is the Navajo I have mentioned on other strings, and lives in Maine). My ex fiancée is 8 months older than I am, still single, living in Bergen County NJ, whom I met in High School in Manhattan, NY. Lady J is 5 months older than I am, and now living 2 blocks away from me. Only the ex fiancée is not originally from my community (the Rockaways, Queens County) in NYC. I add that I have had friends who were girls, but so far back that it was totally platonic. I wasn't yet interested in girls as "girlfriends".
  11. I can't speak to ER case loads, but after certain televised events, like the last episode of MASH, and the "Dallas" episode when they revealed who had shot J.R., certain local TV stations went down to the water departments, such as here in NYC, to show how the water pressure, citywide, dropped, as all those watching the shows, and had been "Holding it", went to the bathrooms, relieved themselves, and all flushed at practically the same time.
  12. I heard someone opened a time capsule from 40 years ago, and the Twinkie inside was still edible,
  13. Unless a patient history is known, or accurate, no matter what drugs my Paramedics administer, I would also be wary of bad interaction with unknown meds the patient has already ingested, injected, or applied via a transdermal patch that isn't on the patient during patient surveys. Disclaimer: As a NY State EMT-B, only allowed to administer o2, "baby" aspirin, Albuterol, 2-Pam in a disaster/attack scenario, and awaiting the pilot programs for pre-loaded self-injector epinephrine to be completed.
  14. Tylenol 3, with codine is OTC in Canada? A bunch of my friends are now headed to the Port Authority bus terminal.
  15. I love the smell of "JP1" in the morning. It smells like...wait a minute, it's the fuel tank farm at JFK Airport.
  16. I thought the first page of this link might be an interesting addition to the string. http://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/USDHSFACIR/2013/11/14/file_attachments/251309/November%2B14%252C%2B2013%2BInfoGram.pdf
  17. I note Bohner wants to junk the entire "Obamacare" program. Open question to him is, "What would you replace it with?"
  18. Organ Donor Scout. sorry, feeling a bit melodramatic today.
  19. Wow. Despite my heavy duty (10 out of 10) pain from my angiogram/angioplasty that resulted in an internal bleed I nearly died from, some years ago, I was hesitant in getting one bolus of Morphine, fearing addiction even with the one and only dose.
  20. Guess I'm lucky. One Aleve, possibly 2 a day, and I'm usually good (Back injuries, both knees giving me issues post torn meniscus corrective surgery).
  21. Speed bumps and speed humps: the antithesis of EMS crews!
  22. Stateside WW2 Service... Army of the United States T-4 Sgt Samuel Berger, WAC PFC Sara Berger. Yes. My parents.
