  1. My area of NYC has been in 3 snowfalls, including that 12 inch one. FYI, so far, I've shelled out a total of $160.00 USD for someone to shovel my walk and driveway.
  2. Case in point, my brother legally uses the title of Doctor...of American History.
  3. Finds another vending machine inside the "Watering Hole" bar and grill. Sighs, and puts in a quarter...
  4. I spoke with a USCG member, not involved with the incidents, told me both tugboats were about 35 foot long. We shared the unanswered question of why a 30 foot long "tugboat" was pulling a heavy 150 foot long barge?
  5. Per the newscasts last night and this noon, USCG intends to raise both tugboats, to determine WTF happened. The construction barge remains beached, and as a FYI, is owned by the same construction company that pulled Captain Sullenberger's Jet out of the Hudson River 5 years ago, almost to the day. Yesterday WAS the 5th anniversary of the "Miracle On The Hudson".
  6. Update: FDNY's Alarm Boxes in Manhattan are back on line. New item: For the second time in 3 days, a tugboat has sunk off the Atlantic Beach/Long Beach, Long Island NY coast. The second boat was looking for the wreckage of the first one. Kudos and a WELL DONE to Inwood Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, Lawrence-Cedahurst Volunteer Fire Department and EMS (both of Nassau County, NY), NYPD Aviation, and all others involved in both tugboat crew rescues. Now, it's up to the US Coast Guard to remove the now beached heavy-duty construction barge the first tugboat had been hauling.
  7. Get 1988 New York Post newspaper with headline "EMS Orders Dead EMS Lieutenant Back To Work". Puts in two bits...
  8. Just sharing that the emergency notification agency "Notify New York City", has transmitted to me, by text, E-Mail, and Landline, that the FDNY Alarm Boxes in Manhattan are out of service due to an unspecified infrastructure issue, and encouraged anyone reporting a fire to use 9-1-1. Messages were sent and received around 4 PM Eastern Time.
  9. A joke I taught my mother to use at gatherings of "Older" people... 3 old ladies, all friends, met at a bus stop. The first one said, "Windy, isn't it?" Said the second, "No, it's Thursday." "So am I," chimed in the third one, "Let's go to my house for a spot of tea!"
  10. Got nothing. Smart enough not to keep feeding the vending machine, also that was my last quarter.
  11. Why no puns? You closing a door on me? O-PUN the door! Island, they'd be just as funny even if not Irish.
  12. When retired, one never knows when their day is over. On an unrelated subject, at about 3 hours into 2014, I hope everyone has their rabbit or kangaroo, to have a HOPPY NEW YEAR!
  13. ERDoc made a statement to the effect he was a TV show host. That's how I know. Plus, the link confirms it. Caduceus, if you or anybody doesn't want to post a picture of themselves, that is youze guyz decision! What is wrong with that? NADA!
  14. The only difference between a halo and a hangman's noose is 12 inches.
  15. ERDoc, who is that man in the photo, and what show does he host?
  16. 1) I'm not 60 YET, not until May. 2) Aside from the NY State Volunteer Ambulance & Rescue Association conventions, and only because Lady J is kind of an "On-Call", due to her being a substitute teaching Para-Professional, I usually DON'T travel without her. That includes the month of November 2012, as Super Storm Sandy refugees, living in a Super-8 Motel in Montgomery, NY, a hundred miles from both our doorsteps (per my Nissan Quest odometer). 3) Most EMT City people know I always mention Lady J a lot, here in the forums. 4) Not all of us have the skill to put their real (or so they say) photo on their profiles.
  17. Caduceus, Out of curiosity, with a nickname like "Da Bomb", any pictures of you on Facebook? I'd post my own here, but don't know how. Reference link www.facebook.com/richard.berger.12 for me and my "Lady J"
  18. There's one on this site got his online name due to having a hairstyle similar to a now 19 year old Canadian Rock singer, per his own explanation to us
  19. Wow. Per that link, there are at least 2, possibly 3, temperature scales. I still remember a story of a European child, just after the end of WW2, on being told he had a 101 (f) degree fever by a US Army Doctor, asking if he was going to die. Child had been raised using the Celsius scale.
  20. Ruff, I know you wrote that one for a laugh, but back in 1974, some drunk, reportedly a security guard going off duty, did drive home with a "bus": my VAC's 1967 Caddylance. In a backhanded compliment to the thief, who never got prosecuted, he did shut off the battery Cole-Hersee (spelling?) switch.
  21. I got enough targets painted on my back. Everyone, please re-holster your weapons!
