  1. I have always been told IM Epi is the most ideal because of the absorbtion rate. If anyone is willing to take a couple mins to go in further detail with this one. Are there more reasons as to why you would choose IM vs SQ? absorption, less side effects? contraindications? situations where you might prefer SQ? Thanks everyone.
  2. Suck it up dude. If this what you want to get into, then deal with the your local hiring process and keep your mouth shut doing it. I'm in the middle of paying fees and fees to get paperwork together and pass a physical fitness test and do I want to do it? NO but thats where I want to work so I will go out and get those certs they want. If you start complaining now, man you are not doing yourself a favor.
  3. I'll be in orange county from the 8th to the 23rd. Might not work out with the drive and your testing.
  4. That is really unfortunate. My thoughts go to the family. So many things play a key into this issue. We have the same dilema here. Some of the bigger cities that have the money and the people to run 2 separate services do so, where as the smaller ones seem to run calls differently by having all personel trained in both areas. Just to many things come into play into this one and it would be difficult to find a way to have run things differently the day of that unfortunate crash. A risk we shouldn't have to take BUT we choose to risk. Again thoughts go with the family.

  6. That's a thread that answered itself with the original post. I would hope I wouldn't get a doc come out and surgical procedure if they had never been trained in surgery. I wouldn't want an EMT to treat me if they had no been trained specifically for that situation. Can you imagine the kind of insurance you would now require? It makes no sense.
  7. What I found odd was the amount of information he released about the call. Didn't sit right with me so I'm glad to hear something happened, makes a lot more sense to me now.
  8. You honor family wishes? dude I hope you and your family get along well. Here unless you wave a DNR at me, I am by law, obligated to work this code. Anyone else has this "honor" option? I have never heard of that.
  9. I know nothing other than the general indications for most ALS drugs, dosages etc etc, so you won't be getting my input in that sense. I would have boarded her, been careful doing the transfer (hyperthermia from being on the ground), hooked her up to the monitor, start a line, monitor vitals and keep her company all the way to the hospital.
  10. There goes another couple million (which no one seems to have) thrown out the window.
  11. Good scenario. Need to keep a closer eye on this section of the forum so quit coming in when it's over :?
  12. http://www.ilkleygazette.co.uk/news/news_l...ims_black_belt/ Burley girl, 10, rewarded for dedication to her sport 9:20am Monday 22nd December 2008 comment Comments (0) Have your say » By Andrea Hardaker » Karate kid Katy Dalzell has become one of the youngest black belts in the country – at the age of ten. Katy, a pupil at Burley Woodhead CE Primary School, has practised the martial art since she was four years old. Her dedication and commitment have seen her rise up through the grades and now she has achieved one of the highest accolades in her sport after competing against opponents four or five years her senior. Katy trains with expert and former world champion Paul Newby, head coach at the Olympik Dream Gym in Crosshills. Paul specialises in sport karate which sees his pupils competing in tournaments in a bid to win world titles. He said: “Katy is amazing. You don’t see many black belts at that age. When I trained I was one of the youngest in the country and I was 12! She is very dedicated and focused and it has really paid off.” Katy, who lives in Burley-in-Wharfedale, started training with Paul four or five years ago. Keen to learn, she attended classes three times a week, rarely missing a session. Paul said: “She didn’t particularly stand out right away but she was very flexible and she turned up regularly, full of enthusiasm. She is at an age where some children lose interest in the art but Katy kept on going. “She took part in regular tournaments and did very well and gradually we really began to see that hard work pay off. Now she is definitely one of our best fighters.” In order to gain her black belt, Katy competed against 15 and 16-year-olds. Paul said: “In the section she is in at the moment, she has to compete against 12-year-olds. Two years is a big difference at that age and she is only little but she is very capable of handling herself against them. “To get her black belt she had to do a lot of sparring and had to be extremely fit. She also had to fight against kids who were a lot older than her but she just took it in her stride. She had to win four or five fights in total and she did. “We are very proud of her.” Last year Katy’s achievements were marked at the club when she was crowned sportsperson of the Year at the age of nine. Her technique is so impressive that Paul put a clip of her fighting on the internet video sharing network YouTube. The clip shows little Katy in action on stage showing off her skills to a large audience. Now Paul was hoping to introduce the youngster to nine times world champion and England coach Wayne Otto, OBE, who was due to visit the club recently. Between 1988 and 2001 Otto dominated the world of karate and led a team of fighters, including Paul, which took Great Britain from also-rans to champions of the world. Paul said:”I can’t wait for Wayne to see Katy fight. I have always said that if ever karate gets to the Olympics, Katy would be the one to compete and I am certain she will be fighting for England.” The headteacher at Burley Woodhead Primary School, Julie Speight, said she was amazed at Katy’s achievements. She said: “We have been following Katy’s progress right the way through school and every time she goes up a grade she shows her medals at assembly. She has done incredibly well, and it is quite an achievement for a little girl of her age. We are all very proud of her indeed.”
  13. Well on one of my most recent trips, I took some photos of what they use down there. Some fun pics to share.
  14. I never had any training. All about using your charm :love5: ....yea right. The worst situation I have been in was for a psych pt (which at the time we didnt realise was one)and left against our advice to get his shotgun. In that situation tho, we had plenty of time to RUN to our unit leaving all equipment behind. There is only so much you can do and when that adrenaline is running for everyone on board, hard to know what it is you would do until you are put in that situation.
  15. Have neer been in that situation. The ones I have had were postictal or started seizing right after drop off. If it were to happen in the rural setting, knowing there is nothing I can do, my better option would be to try to load and go and make sure I have ALS intercept.
  16. Nice, what about writing a bill for the providers? would be much more amusing to see what you all come up with.
  17. I would be to tempted to use it  no service here carries them (legally)
  18. is THIS topic going postictal??
  19. One of the last calls we ran before I went on med leave was for an "unconscious/fainting". When we got to the scene the pt looked sound asleep. The inside conditions were quite warm so the body was still at room temp. No idea how long it had been there for BUT once the arm was lifted off blankets for a pulse check which is when obvious lividity was found. A couple mins on the monitor to finish off my job and it was left at that. ALS who had been called a while back arrived on scene-had them check as well and the RCMP was called. They finished things off-I went back to bed. I think in a sense it's what sucks the most about what we do. The bodies don't so much bother me, it's life but its some of the grievers that bug me.
  20. LOL!! I couldn't have thought of a better one myself! NICE
