MG you did the right thing as far as I can tell. In my community there are more obese people than non. We have 5 ambulances on our little island and the one in the middle has the bariatric stretcher. When medivacs are for the obese they take the call. Your safety is first and then you pts is second. Now like I said we live in small communities here and in 15 years I have seen one call where they used the Manta mat for a 400 lb pt in medical distress. They did yes put him on the floor and they had a fire truck in front and back for the transport of 3 minutes to the hospital. The risk was worth the benifit in that case the pt one need to go to the hospital and that pt lived. This senerio seems to be a non emergency that was able to wait the extra 12 hrs for transport and if the other company did it that way it dosn't make it right On the topic of refusing pts I have the ability to say there is no way I am taking that pt if I feel unsafe . I personally have never refused and I rarely take the RCMP with me as they just aggravate them. I want my pts to trust me and I have had the biggest nut bar in the back. Phyc calls are the ones here I do well (yes there may be a reason for that and if I had to do my assessment in the back of the cop car, follow them to the ER then that is what I would do. As we fly out phyc's here we are the conection from the hospital to the plane. If I feel a pt hasn't been sedated enough then I go to the dr and explain why and we deal with it together as I am not going to waste anyone's time to have my pt refused by the air crew they are busy enough. Thank god I dont have people above threatning to fire me because I did my job. HLPP first of all MG was really the mature one in this forum and just basically said thank you for your input. As a medic I have never been had any of the above, but that might be because they are more afraid of me then I am of them. As a bar manager it all happened to me and they weren't always drunk but they only did it once I dont know the laws in your area but it would be a good thing to find out and take some self defence classes and always remember your PPE. Part of the websters dictionary definition of Minority 3 a: a part of a population differing from others in some characteristics and often subjected to differential treatment This word really is very interesting and it sure gets alot of attention.... So my point is that really depending on where or what you are doing there are going to be times that everyone is the minority. For example Dwayne you are going to do a stint in Mongolia there for you will become a minority but if you stayed home you are not. When you go there are you going to try and make every Mongolian act like an american, I think not if I know you good enough I know that you are going to embrace and try to learn the culture and if a Mongolian is interested in your culture you will teach them what they want to know. Flaming you are not the minority at the Gay Pride parade now are you.....but there are people that are straight at these parades and they are learning about gay culture, so dont you think it is only respectful to learn about the straight culture when you are the minority. I chose to live as a minority on Haida Gwaii and I have embraced the culture as you can see by my avitar. Now when I travel off island I am not normally the minority but my husband becomes one. FlammingEMT you have come here with a preset bigoted attitude that all straight people think there is something wrong with gay people but what you have failed to see through out all of the responses is that many here have told you they are not homophobic etc but you cant seem to accept their answers as genuine. If you want people to respect who you may be as a gay person or as an EMT or as a gay emt then you should try to educate people respectfully and not cram the information at them. I had a hard time the first night along with many. It's funny how you get attached to personalities even on the net. I had my fair share of arguments with dustbunny but I respected him like I respect many here and I have made many friends here. I never met him personally but I found out that he was sick and the one and only time I ever had private chat with him, I found out that he had never had the pleasure of tasting canned salmon. This may not sound like a big deal but in my house canned salmon is like gold. So I had helped my husband can the smoked sockeye and it sat away for a year. I figured that since I helped can I could grab a few cans, little did I know it was being counted . I told dustbunny that I would send both plain and smoked as no body should die without tasting it. I sent it down with a nice card that had suggestions on how to eat it and it also said he didnt have to share if he didnt want to (I try to make people share, right dwayne). Anyways I think of that little story and it makes me smile. Maybe to you all having a hard time think of one good memory of him and when your feeling a bit sad think of that one memory. Ruff isnt making excuses, he is making sense. He has small kids and small kids have a habit of not listening and a higher chance of getting out of the vehical and getting hurt. There have been alot of accidents involving good samaritans getting hurt by stopping to help, and you better take a good look at your good samaritan laws, because Im not to sure if medical personel are covered under it in the states because they have a higher level of training. And to come here and call someone who infact is well respected and call him lazy and burned out is of bad form, just saying

There was a study on sleep patterns and teenagers. If you make your teen go to bed earlier then they are more apt to be more active and healthy, which would mean less obesity. I live in a Native community and Obesity is very high here. It is not uncommen to have a 250 to 350 lbs pt. But before we take away all the obese kids from their families you have to make sure the problem is not from medical or emotional issues. One of the problems here is sexual abuse and what happens is the victim will become obese so they are left alone by predetors. I also think that we should not be feeding our kids processed foods as much as we do. I have never really cared for alot of processed foods so there fore my kids never really ate it. The most kraft dinner they had was 3 times a year maybe. I luv this slogan "Try Organic Food......or as your grand parents called it, FOOD. The other issue is that our kids dont drink enough water and are to easy to grab a pop and they consume alot of liquid calories, so in the end if you dont buy the junk the kids dont eat the junk.

You know it isn't sex that makes a marriage work, but it is taking the time to make love to someone so that they make you and you make them feel like they are the most important person in the world. I do agree with Dwyane in this, but knowing him and how he talks about his wife he dosnt just have sex with Babs. When you give yourself to some completely that is when all of the other aspects of the marriage fall into place, like communication (also very important) and just plain affections. We would like to think this guy is an asshole, and a coward but really when it comes down to it we have no idea what his life at home is like, and is he just acting like a gorrilla because there are "young bucks" around to gloat to. It has been my experience the you talk to them in a monatone voice, If you bring emotion into the senerio they pick it up and that can be a big triger. I also never show any sympathy for them, "Im so sorry you feel that way" just makes them think they are dummies. You should try to get to their level. When I do these calls I take as much time as is needed, dealing with mental health in any form is normally my longest calls. Sassy you say he wanted " to make the voices stop" is that not red flag that this boy may also have a degree of schizophrenia.. For some reason I have the abilty to calm down so there fore i will get the phyc calls. If you ever come across this boy again at least you will have a bit of a heads up
