  4. Sounds like by blameing the road rescue they are trying to prevent a lawsuit or the medic was just no paying attention to his patient. If they facts are true I think the medic just was not paying attention. As we all know there are many basic things you can do if the above happens then blame the fancy 02 machine for brakeing down.
  5. The military in this day and age does not put any one to death due to the political backlash of say puting someone to death for a crime commited. The UCMJ is full of very odd and out dated laws and rules that were writen in a far diffrent time then today, Its one of the most intresting set of laws in the free world if you ask me. You can also be tried twice for the same crime so no double jeopardy protection.
  6. In short NO the military does not do that sort of thing any more. The only thing the military can put you to death for is for abandonment of a "duty" or post without permission in a time of war. But they dont do it since well shoting people does crap for moral even in a time of war.
  7. The designation is RC and its is one of the only command and control aircraft in the USAF fleet. Other Aircraft can do what the RC-135 does but the RC-135 has more capacity and options. RC-135 or AWAC Based on the C-135 Stratolifter airframe some have a GIANT rotateing radar dish on top. The RAF is going to use RC-135 to replace there Nimrods aircraft which are de Havilland Comets
  8. Sorry for the late reply 1- We used duct tape and my BDU top for the sling and swath. DBU tops are very stong we secured the four buttons on the sleeves around the back of his neck and wraped the bottom of the BDU top carefully around the arm then secured with duct tape so it would not move. Keep in mind this was a small crow bar used for removeing aircraft panels that were caked with sealent it was only a about a foot and change long. 2- As for the bever tail its a part of the aircraft wing on a 135 that is on the inboard trailing edge of where the wing meets the fuselage next to the numbers 2 and 4 flap. Its made out of fiberglass and honeycomb composite and is very stroing. It just happens to look like a bever tail thus its name. Its also the one part on the wing that in a pinch you can slide down if you have to bail off the wing during ground maintence or ISO insepctions. I dont recommend doing it since its a long slide down but better then jumping 20 feet off the wing. 3- KC is the Air Force designation for in flight refueling aircraft. 4- The KC-135 is based off of the 707 but is a very diffrent aircraft when it comes to the wings and airframe and engines. It also one of the easyest airframes to work on in the whole US Air Force. Alot of those planes I worked on where old as sin with the oldest plane being from 1958.
  9. The good ol USA thanks to the second amendment is one of the only place in the world where you can assume everyone is armed untill told other wise. I think that news article is a freek becouse the guy pulled the person out of the truck when he stoped then shot him. I can see you point I just think that guy had bad luck and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Anyways geting back to the over all topic. I do find it intresting on how the view of stoping or not is diffrent out side of the USA. It seems in the USA according to this forum stoping is a 50/50 most of the time and when someone posts from over seas they are almost always saying "sure I will stop". It just goes to show you how much of a diffrent mentality people in EMS have around the world. Ive worked EMS in two countries and its intresting to see how the views can change and mix when presented a certian situation depending on a specific set of circumstances.
  10. I like HONDA products they tend to think outside of the box when it comes to things like that. But I doubt I would ever own one of those figure eight rideing things from Honda.
  11. -Link- Kitten pulled from cars engine Police received a call saying she and her son had heard what sounded like cat noises coming from underneath their car's hood when she turned on the ignition. When they checked, they said they found a small kitten............................ What an odd call to go out to.
  12. ummmmm the post says the light bar is Orange? Last I knew orange was leagle to have for everyone as for AEDs they are becomeing like fire bottles.
  13. I agree with BlissEMT this whole issue is assuming that there is NO other responders are present not even the police and its safe to pull over. Also it helps to have the basic gear to do some good.
  14. God this is fricken stupid this newspaper has shot them selfs in the foot. I just read the artical and in my opinion its a load of bull plop. These days when newspaper readership is declining you think they would be thankfull that people are even reading there website or newspaper. Not to mention when the LV Sun publicly says which people they are sueing by name is fricken bogus. If you read the comments below the article they are not very positive. They could of sent cease and desist order first then just sicking the lawyers on everyone who posts a link or article from the LVJ. To read the article search NEMSA on Facebook I wont post the link here since the news paper is certifiable crazy. Note to self: If in Las Vegas dont read the Las Vegas Sun infact use it as toilet paper.
  15. You can use any thing you want to splint with as long as you immobilize above and below the injury. I once used a crowbar to splint someones arm when I was in the Military. We had it in our tool box out on the flightline when one of the airman fell off the bever tail of a KC-135 and broke his arm. When the Ambulance showed up there were rather perplext to why we splinted him up with a crowbar. When we went to the hospital to get our tool back the doc was rather ammused in how ingenious we were.
  16. Sounds like they need a third rescue unit or better plan for mutual aid. Perhaps there is a privet ambulance company that's closer to the town then whats in there mutual aid agreement with other local towns. But with money and all being short I doubt that they would have any more then three rescue units in a town of that size. After all Fire Department Ambulances keep many Fire Departments public funding in place. A Fire Department based Ambulance is a mobile money maker for many departments. Sounds like during peak times there FD gets busy with the equipment and units they have.
  17. Selling that stuff is probably legal but when some one goes to use it and there not licensed then thats a problem. Personally if you buy that stuff off of craigs list your an id10t lord knows where that stuffs been or it might be expired or even punctured. If it was me I would not buy that sort of thing off of ebay and craigslist. There are plenty of places online to buy that stuff are alot better besides criagslist.
  18. USAF Veteran here I'm was not a "Combat Medic" but I was a Squadron Medic on RAF Lakenheath while I was in the Air Force. Before I went to my first Deployment to Qatar I was the only Airman in the Squadron who went to the Army first response medical training in Germany. After my deployment finished part of my desk job was to be a first responder for any medical issues or emergency's untill the base ambulance got there. In my spare time I did all the Ambulance Tech training with St Johns Ambulance UK so I could work on a British Ambulance Service. Once I got out of the Air Force last year I started my US EMT classes. I am looking into Paramedic schools right now after I get some work experience as a EMT-B. Cheers

Thanks I have been looking for a good EMS forums and my EMT instructor pointed me here. Now all I have to do is find a Job in EMS somewhere in NH or MA.
  20. Good scenario What the best course of action would be to contact your countries consulate most including our own deal with issues like this all the time. Also depending on the country your cruse ship is in chances are you could not even bring a malpractice case against said doctor. But under Maritime law assuming your out in the open sea or under a foreign flagged vessel in port. Any doctor can treat you with out fear of prosecution to the best of his ability with the equipment at hand. In a situation like this what would happen the nearest country with the capable means of evacing out the patient would be called. Our military does this a lot in third world countries when American citizens need urgent medical care. The Royal Navy and Royal Air Force do this as well in most of the ex colonel holdings and commonwealths of the British crown. I have been on many temporary deployments for medical evacs as mechanical support while in the Air Force. We flew a lot of people out of the horn of Africa and other places I cant talk about. I also studied maritime law before I was in the Military. But in reference to your last statement I would feel mad but do all I could to change to doctors mind. But with out the proper tools there is not much he could do. If it was me I would do my best to persuade him to just have a look since its better to try to do something then nothing at all if death was certain assuming that a medical evac was en route or being called.

Thanks im not new to EMS well new to EMS in the USA anyways. EMS in the UK is very different then the USA.
  22. If you act in good faith and with in your scope of practice for the level of training held, I seriously doubt a court would even take it to trial or file charges. Now if you act out side of your scope of practice or do something stupid like interfere with the emergency responders once they arrive then you deserve whats coming to you. The way I see it is its best to do what you can do to the best of your ability then do nothing at all. If its holding C-Spine fine, if its giving basic care/First aid thats fine as well but when you step outside of what you know you should be doing then thats a problem. But like every thing in life you need to use common sense but alas common sense ain't so common for some people. I'm no super hero but I believe in helping out someone in need.
  23. I can see your point and agree with it somewhat because you make a good point. From living in other countries the last six years I have found that in Japan passer bys will stop and render any aid they can includeing helping the ambulnace with the patient. In Germany they will stop but have a misguided tendency to want to pull the person from the car. In England they will stop and help most of the time untill the NHS or Fire Brigade shows up. As for me I only stop if I witness it happen or no other emergency serivce is there. Once someone with higher authority (Fire/EMS) shows up I leave unless requested to stay by the police or who ever. I dont stop at every fender bender but if it looks serrious I will stop and render whatever aid I can.
  24. While I was deployed to Iraq during my military days. Part of my job was watching the locals arabs who worked on base doing mundane things. They trained all of us in combat first aid since most of the people we were watching had no concept of health and safety. We all got the big IFKs and extra gear, since they told us the people we would be watching are very accident prone and there is no safety regulations for them under Iraqi law. One day me and my partner were siting in a construction trailer with a bunch of the locals who were building a bathroom on base. We all in there with the arabs next to us with all of there construction stuff and sleeping gear. (And yes they ate and slept in this litte trailer no wider then a semi truck) The whole place smelled like, crap, pee, oil, smoke, humus and 21 day old chesse mixed with gun powder. There were six arabs in the trailer with me and my partner monitoring the only door in the for security. We were watching one of them pour gas from one container into another while one cut angle iron with a power saw inside the trailer. I tell the guys to stop but they dont speak english at all, nor do they seem to care that im waveing my arms around and motioning them to stop. So they continue and out of no where WHOOOSH BOOM FLASH! You guessed it the guy cuting the iron set him self and his friend includeing the trailer on fire. They both had at least 30% partial thickness burns to there hands, torso and face. One of the other guys jumped out the back window brakeing his wrist and the other three ran out of the trailer. I was ok besides a cut to the head from triping over some gear on my way out, but my partner did not fare so well he burned his hand decently bad. We treated all of the injured with out IFK untill the base ambulance and SP's got there. After that none of the civilain workers were allowed to store gas of power tools inside any conex or consturuction trailers. But they did not listen and a week later they burned out another one of there trailers. Yea as for scary that ranks up high in my mind but there are many others that I can think of too.

I am looking for a job right now in NH since I am unemployed. Any EMS job would be good even it was a volunteer EMS. I am a firm beliver that people in EMS should do volunteer work with in EMS. With some luck hopefully I can work for AMR but I kind of need a job soon before my money runs out. Im puting the paper work in today to apply to take the test in MA for EMT, NHCPR was great at walking the people in my EMT class though the process. Cheers
