  1. Ya I know my school director keeps flinging the fact I went to school for it around. I'm trying to get out of here fast.
  2. I'm a PVK teacher's aid who is also the school EMT. Which is very confusing. As a preschool we're not required to have any medical staff at all. If something did happen my boss would flip my title from teacher's aid to EMT. See why I started to freak out a bit? I just spoke to my boss and told her it was out of my scope. She wasn't aware of exactly what is was. She thought it was like an epi-pen. It's being sent home today and removed from the building. Which means I can breath alot easier. Thanks for your replies guys. :: takes a deep breath and goes back under my rock::
  3. Ok as many of you know I currently teach in a preschool. We also have kids that come in at like 3pm and stays until 6pm. These kids come in from the local middle schools so that they aren't "lach key kids". Now I am only an EMT-Basic. In school I was told the only medications I could give where: charcol, epi-pens ( after checking the 5 Rs), and Nitro ( after checking the 5 Rs). Ok I understand this. Not a problem. I was just ( and I mean 3 seconds ago) handed a box with 2 doses of rectal diazepam and told that if our new aftercare kid has a seizure I am ordered to give it. Isn't this an ALS drug? Wouldn't I get into a whole mess of trouble if I were to administer this? Um... help!!!!!!
  4. He was not a SCAdian but a man that we all have a certain amount of thanks to. Our Kingdom Chirugeon has had her life saved by an epi-pen a few times at events. I was a Chirugeon for about 4 months before something happened that caused me to turn in my badge and vow to never again carry one. I am much happier being unoffical and just letting people know I have a kit with me. This isn't the place to hash on that though. PM me and I'll explain that one.
  5. As some of you know I'm part of a living history group called the SCA. This just came through on our message board for the local chapter. I figured it does kindof relate to us so I would foward it to here. "The gentleman who invented the EpiPen, Sheldon Kaplan, has passed away. He lived in Clearwater, Fla and died of Hepatocellular carcinoma, a liver cancer, on Sept 21. He was 70 years old. I wonder if he had any idea how far that invention would go and how many lives he saved by working on a nerve gas antidote dispenser."
  6. There are roughly 2 trains of thought within chiropractic practices. One thought is called Straight Chiropractic that ONLY deals with the spine. The only thing they will do is realign the spine into propper aligment. This does help with alot of things. I will personally say it has helped my breathing, "female pains", and head aches. My mom will attest that it did decrease the severity and duration of her migraines if she got a treatment at the onset of one. The other train of thought is Diverse Chiropractic. This teaching is when we get into the Jack of All Trades Master of None problem. Now I am not going to say that all chiropractors that follow that are horrible at their job and don't know what they are doing. There's a few good ones. If I hadn't gone to one I wouldn't have found out what happened to one of my wrists and had it correctly taken care of. It's because of that doctor's care that I now once again have full moment of my right hand and full feeling. Before realizing I wanted to get into EMS I looked very hard into chiropractic and even picked which college I wanted to attend. So ya my views are rather biased to say the least.
  7. Honestly I would try Chiropractic ( if possible find one that went to Sherman College of Straght Chiropractic but that's more because I like their teachings) and massage therapy. There is a special massage modality for sciatica so when you look for an LMT ask if they have had the training or at least experiance with it in the past. ~ Beth and her mother who is on the phone with her.
  8. Ok this might be in the wrong section if it is please move it to the right one I wont be offended. This is mostly to the firefighters we have on this board. Next month at the school I work at we're going over fire prevention and safety. Now yes we do have a curiculem we teach from but lets just face it: it beyond sugar coats and just leaves stuff out. So here's my question to all of you- What do you think a preschooler ages 4-5 should know about fire stafety, prevention, and you guys. Do any of you know where I can find pictures or videos of trainings/demos? Or can you send me some yourselves? As some of you know I don't sugar coat things to my kids. I don't feel it helps them learn. My moto in teaching is the only thing that limits a child's learning is their teacher. If you were part of the penpal program you know my kids are sharp as tacks. hehe. ( No joke a few can even take vitals and do an EKG. Ask Lone he'll tell ya!) As a teacher I know what things I think are important but as a firefighter you guys know what things kids are never told but would make your jobs a hell of a lot easier.
  9. I will call Mamma Char tomarrow and ask her if she knows anything new for you guys.
  10. On my lunch break and when I get home. OH and weekends when I'm not out with my friend Arrielle causing trouble. hehe. 0:)
  11. And why would that be only for the males?
  12. At home sadly. I'm down with a cold. Though it means I can work on my website and get it ready for launching on the 27th... maybe... lmao
  13. Happy birthday hun!

  14. Sadly I don't know how to make the strip show up here so here's the link. This is to a webcomic that my husband sometimes reads and he saw this one and thought of us. Just wanted to share it. http://www.partiallyclips.com/pclipslite.php?id=1395
  15. I called Mamma Char last night and told her what was being said on here. She wishes to thank everyone for supporting him and she will be calling his office today as soon as she wakes up to let him know that not everyone in this world hates him.
  16. I'll call mom tomorrow and tell her to pass on your words of support. Trust me he needs it. From how I understand it damn near everyone is against him for doing this. This has been a rather long battle and I was waiting for it to hit the news. I'm almost glad it has maybe it will help his fight. Edit: yes I call my mother in law my mom.
  17. My mother in law is very good friends with the medical director. I"ll let him know you guys agree with him he'll be glad to hear that. Trust me.
  18. ya Lone is right. From what I saw and heard from others the test ranges from about 60 questions to about 200. Unless you are completely bombing the test you actually want a lower number. Of my classmates those of us that were stopped around 70 passed. A few were taken up to alittle over 180 and they failed. This is not a sure fire why to see if you passed/failed the test but it does give a good level of personal confort. The best advice I can give you is take your time and read everything. Read all the answers even if your sure the first one you read is right. I know on my test I couldn't go back to fix an answer and there's a couple that I answered alittle too fast and realized it right after I clicked, "next".
  19. ACK Ok this has bugged me all day. I made a mistake. It isn't cinnimon that's dangerious but nutmeg.
  20. Go to Camdon Grey.com. They have really good stuff for "cheap". You know for how cheap an EO can be. Vodka on jelly fish stings. It said it helps take away the pain and heals faster. Home made ice pack. You guys ready for this one? You take 2 freezer bags. Fill one with 1 bottle of rubbing alcohol and 3 cups water. The alcohol keeps it from freezing solid. These packs get COLD. I mean if you are stupid and don't put a *thick* wash cloth between it and your skin you will get frostbite. Who can guess how I know that one? This isn't so much a remedy but an oops moment: Making your own crushed cinnimon from scratch. If you get any of the nut mixed into it you have a natural version of a stree drug. Oddly enough. That same shell ( called Maze) if you crush it and make it into a spray is sold on the market as: Mase. Another good one for headaches is grape seed extract. Great for topical use only. If ingested it can make the personal violetely ill. I'm looking for my list of spontanious abortion herbs and oils. Those can be dangerious because you have no control and can cause massive amounts of blood loss.
  21. Ok as someone who's family does practice naturalpathy... Do you want ones that from "modern" history or can I go into my period text books for apothacary? :: cracks fingers, pulls out the white cloth gloves and very old books::
  22. LMAO Ok I'll go ahead and answer that. Go look at my picture and you will see her. We're identical. She only has a few more wrinkles since she's older than me by 20 years. My husband can valadate this fact. It's very scary.
  23. Ok I'm actually going to answer this from a massage therapist point of view not from an EMT. Please note my mother was a LMT for many years only allowing her certs to expire this last year. This is actually her post more than mine. Back braces are actually one of the worst things a person can use and wear. They take over the job of your back muscels causing them to atrophy. They don't get stronger because they don't need to. Which in turn causes more back problems, pain, and injury rather than less. Great for my job security but poor for their over all health. Medical professionals are taught how to lift things correctly and for the most part follow their training. This means they backs are stronger as are their legs and arms. They also tend to give their bodies more TLC by going to massage therapists or even chiropractors. (That I have personally witnessed.) The average person in a store might get a 30 minute lecture to which they totally ignore. While we get months of training and continuing training over the years about how body mechanics work. In short we don't use them because we treat our bodies better. ~ Martina Gypsy's mom. I love my mom.
  24. Here we would have one person calling parents while the other calls 911 if this was a child. This was a teacher who also works in the kitchen.
