  1. Glock offers a discount to EMS/FD/everybody else under their Homeland Security Discount program. And I got a 27% discount from Sprint for working at my old Hospital... Better than the 10% from the old service I worked for
  2. Whenever I'm not working on a bus I carry a small tactical nuclear weapon. Also known as a 10mm Gotta love CCW
  3. From what I have been told about AMR, unless you have a little seniority, don't expect them to work around your schedule at all. Or they might have you sign a contract to work for them for so many years, but pay for school and work around your schedule. Although if I can get 2k that would pay for one semester fully for tuition (I'm on out of state tuition right now)
  4. Since I was under 23, FASFA wouldn't give me money for my first attempt, but luckily I was working for an ambulance service, and then a hospital, during P-school. Both were willing to work around schedules. Although there were days I got to class after a 12 hour shift and the day dragged. For this coming attempt, I'll be 23, so I might be able to get some grants or fed student loans through FASFA. Plus working wherever I can, whenever I can.
  5. I'd say go with the Nurses unless you are planning on having your medics trained to the level of medics in places like Australia or New Zealand. The system we have in the US is very flawed and I'd say do not go with anything like it.
  6. Welcome back! Sorry to hear about the divorce, but at least you've got a good attitude.
  7. It'll sure have FEMA not let you do their courses no more I saw that warning on ICS 100,200, and 700
  8. I thought I've seen pictures of a few Type IIs in FDNY colors... But I could be wrong or they could be older images.
  9. I've been doing various forms of martial arts sicne I was in Elementary with only a recent few year break (now that I'm done moving I need to look for a dojo again). I also have had unarmed security training, which doesn't help much but I'll take anything.
  10. I think what they're talking about is a thread a while back about wearing a helmet while working the back of a bus.
  11. News article RIP to the crew. Thoughts go out to the families
  12. Hey, any hints for WEMT for someone just moving to CO? I'd love to get involved in Wilderness EMS and SAR

  13. Heh I know one of the private services out there, they're not going to be happy about this... which is a good thing
  14. Definately sounds like it's time to clean house around there.
  15. I know of no one that wears one in hte ABQ area. When I get to Denver I'll see how it is up there
  16. Hmmm... I have seen very very very few AFD rescues actually transport. They usually despise it. That being said, if it's a city official/worker they usually do, or if it's something really 'cool'.
  17. I know it shouldn't, but FAFSA still wants their information and it winds up screwing me over every time. This is the criteria they use to determine dependancy Were you born before January 1, 1987? As of today, are you married? At the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year, will you be working on a master's or doctorate program (such as an MA, MBA, MD, JD, PhD, EdD, or graduate certificate, etc.)? Do you have children who will receive more than half of their support from you between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011? Do you have dependents (other than your children or spouse) who live with you and who receive more than half of their support from you, now and through June 30, 2011? Are you currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces for purposes other than training? Are you a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces? At any time since you turned age 13, were both your parents deceased, were you in foster care or were you a dependent or ward of the court? Are you, or were you an emancipated minor as determined by a court in New Mexico or in your state of legal residence at the time you received the determination? Are you, or were you in legal guardianship as determined by a court in New Mexico or in your state of legal residence at the time you received the determination? On or after July 1, 2009, were you homeless or were you at risk of being homeless? Taken straight from FAFSA
  18. I've lived on my own since 18 and have not been claimed since then either. Doesn't seem to make a difference at all.
  19. I paid my way through my first stab at medic school (LyonN, I wish I had known about DOL paying though). When I get to CO to try again it's going to be harder since I'll have out of state tuition... And since I'm 22 and my parents 'make too much money' FAFSA won't help me out in the least.
  20. I had heard from Anna that you might be trying out for BCFD. Good luck on getting on with them! This is Nathan, from Socorro and the cohort right behind you.
  21. One of hte funniest ones I've seen yet
  22. So they're still making you work at an ILS level Nick? That sucks beyond belief. EDIT: Didn't read all of the thread as I'm posting from phone.
  23. Hmmm... NM EMT-B, NREMT-I/85, and whatever CO finally licenses me as when I get that in the mail.
