  1. Yep. ACA = Action Care. And the waiting game does suck, it's why I wound up moving back to NM after getting canned at ACA. But I'm triple state certed so I had a wide range of options. Asking you age was just cause a lot of EMS agencies don't hire anyone below 21 due to insurance restrictions Good luck!
  2. http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/reprint/122/18_suppl_3/S640 Major changes: - No more ABCs sequence. It is now going to be Chest Compressions-Airway-Breathing (C-A-B ) for all age groups. - No more atropine for asystole or PEA - Adenosine for regular, wide-complex tachycardia - Chronotropic agents is an equal alternative to electrical pacing - Emphasis on chest compression of AT LEAST 100/minute (versus "about 100/min) - Chest compressions for adults of AT LEAST 2" depth (versus 1.5-2") - Oxygen not needed in ACS patients if SPO2 94% or greater if no SOB
  3. I did get into this to help people, so did a lot of RNs that I know. But I won't do it for free, and I know that if you tried to make the RNs I know do it for free, you'd have a not so small riot on your hands. I expect a living wage to be paid to me for my time. Having food on the table trumps any desire I have to volunteer (which isn't any actually).
  4. Little more info is needed. What part of CO are you in? How old are you? If you're in the Denver area, you've got DG (which really only hires medics), ACA (which will hire anyone will a pulse), PPS and R/M (which are about to undergo a merger right now, so they've stopped hiring until that is complete, both of them), AMR (mainly IFT in Denver, with 911 in Longmont and other areas. Seniority based on working 911 with them). Oh plus theres the FDs up there too. In CO Springs you have AMR as the main 911, with ACA doing coverage in Security. Those are the areas I was familiar with. I know AMR runs more around teh state.
  5. They got my results back :) I'm officially hired on now. Now to find out my start date... and TRY to find a place ot live down there other than the station

Your single get on with some other services and just live at each station rather than paying rent. lol

Might buy a travel trailer so you can move easily if you ever need to or if the grass gets to tall so you don't have to mow.

  6. Lol, I was more impressed with the scenery in Odessa when I went to talk to OC about their medic program And as an EMT-I, with the stipends and if you count benefits, I easily make almost as much as a new grad floor nurse made in ABQ, and cost of living is less in Pecos Haven't talked to the RNs there yet, so not sure what kind of money they're making
  7. It's supposed to be if you turn 24 during the school year that you're applying for... at least that's what I was told. Of course since yours is in May I guess they may count it as after teh school year is over
  8. If you're a member of NAEMT you can apply for one of their scholarships. But keep in mind some federal aide will not let you use it on just a certificate program. I'm glad that I turn 24 next November... means in the fall I can apply for grants
  9. I'm curious, how are the classroom NIMS courses? I'm gonna see if my new service will help me take them if they would be worth it. (I'm pretty interested in EM courses, so I've been debating it for a while)
  10. Just got hired on by a city municipal EMS service and the pay is ok, definately not what RNs are making, but enough to live very comfortably in the area, especially since I'm single
  11. Back in NM for hopefully my last week before I start. Got to order my uniforms before I left Pecos this afternoon

Last time I saw their uniforms looked sharp and professional. Hope you enjoy the job. Congrats again.

  12. Congrats! And try to enjoy the ICS courses 200 and 800 are the worst
  13. Well... I kinda sorta... got hired! Still waiting for my bg check to come back, but the job is mine as soon as it comes in!

All I have met there seem to be good people. As you are small town you already know but just a reminder careful of the small town politics. Keep us posted how it goes I may have to go looking for a job before to much longer.

I grew up in small towns (in fact that town I've been living in with my parents is smaller than pecos :P)so unfortunately I'm very used to the politics.

And just to let you know, PCEMS is looking for 4-5 more FT EMT-I and EMT-Ps

  14. Getting ready to walk out the door to drive to Pecos. Good thoughts and luck welcome :D

  15. Oops, sorry In that case I know nothing about them.
  16. Triton, as in Ford E-series with the Triton engine? If so I loved them. MY old service used almost exclusively type II rigs (almost all Ford E-350s) and they were nice. Very rarely broke down, comfortable in the back, just enough room for most services (unless you're doing something stupid like transporting a working code). The only time I wished for a box was a flight team transfer w/ 3 flight crew in the back along with me and the pt.
  17. I think I'm gonna go to BK now to get something to eat
  18. Yay more paperwork done. Copies of all my certs printed out... didn't realize I had quite that many

When you've applied to as many jobs as I have in the last few months, it makes it so much easier :P

I should organize in case I quit.

  19. I am relatively careful, but I have an... odd sense of humor, so that's really the reason it's set to private. Some people don't appreciate it Besides, most photos you'll find with me tagged in them are actually ones I took, I never was much for hte partying aspect at all
  20. First, what do we have available? But if I see him fall out, let him down to the floor, check pulse.
  21. RIP to her, and thoughts go out to her family and coworkers
  22. Hey Ruff, from someone else trying to find work, thanks for explaining about the credit thing. I've got pretty bad credit right now due to being out of work. I can't pay bills if I don't have money coming in Makes me feel a little better. And it's why my FB is set as friend only (you can only see my picture and name if you're not a friend).
  23. Sometimes it can take up to a week to get a drug test back. Just give it a little more time
