  1. Not quite understanding the light hearted banter going on here with t/c, AOL and get lost, I thought I would follow the advise of the above poster and read the rules. Here is the first one;

    "1. You agree not to post or transmit any material that may reasonably be interpreted as abusive, slanderous, hateful, threatening, hostile, harassing, demeaning, intolerant, or intentionally offensive to any other member of this forum. This includes sarcastic, backhanded and double entendre comments, as well as any form of name-calling."

    Fortunately I read down to number four and found an easy out;

    "4. You agree to not incite, encourage, or participate in argumentative behavior. There is a fine line between spirited debate and argument. The former is encouraged. The latter is prohibited. If you are involved in a discussion that begins to take a turn for the worst, it is your responsibility to withdraw from the conversation, and if necessary, report it to a Moderator. Continuing to feed the fire will only result in you receiving the same discipline as those who may have started the problem."

    Well hell, rule 4 is every thread on here....

  2. In PA you can be an EMT at 16.

    Obviously this guy is a real winner and by him doing this he sounds like a complete ass, he needs to grow up some. Maybe a harrasment charge would shape him up.

    I still cant figure out why waiting longer for medic class is worse then going in right of way...but I dont want to beat a dead horse AGAIN...

    Good luck with him Kiwi! hes a sounds like a winner,, he actually sounds like someone from here...

  3. Looks like, after three pages, you guys are finally coming to realise the same thing we always conclude from this discussion.

    Paragods only exist in systems with EMTs. Therefore, they are a figment of the EMTs imagination. Get rid of EMTs and you will have no more paragods. Problem solved.

    But then who would save the medics?

  4. Here fire and EMS do extrication, depends what area its in, I believe EMS should do extrication, there could be an unEMS trained person working on the extrication who has no idea what "hold C-spine" means.

    Let the fire dept clean the road hazards up and "assist" with extrication and pt care if possible

  5. My service does the ground trips for Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and STAT Medevac due to weather or a quick non-flying trip.

    We get called last christmas eve at 0530 A.M. to do a "team" trip, we arrive at CHP to get team (RN,RRT and a doctor) and are told "to get to Braddock yesterday" here we find out its a baby in arrest!

    We arrived at the hospital around 0600, this baby was about 3 months old, the ER staff was working the kid for a good 30 minutes and prior EMS crew about 45 minutes.

    After CHP attempted CPR and other interventions, they finally called it..... I have never seen such a hush over that ER before, it hit me too, I could never believe that would happen on such a glorious day.

    My fire captain works as a PCT there and he just got on at 600 AM and "walked" into it, even he had a teary eye that morning. He told me that 2 hours later when tthe mother finally arrived to claim the body it was worse, that ER was hit like a ton of bricks by sadness.

    i found out from him about 2 weeks later the kid suffered SIDS, according to an autopsy.

  6. welcome to the dark side!

    Good luck, holidays are kind of 50/50, can be busy or dead just take it with stride.

    I've been an EMT for 7 years and still learning and happy with my job.

  7. Good advice has been presented. However, with all that being said, just remember that you will not please all the people all the time.

    There will always be people that, no matter what you do or say, will always regard you as a "para-god". Nothing can or will change this. You could be the nicest person in the world and they will still try to be down on you in this manner.

    You must learn to ignore it. You must learn that the people who treat you this way are either jealous of your level/position, so completely ignorant of what's going on that they feel the need to lash out or they're so insecure in their own position that they feel name calling is the only way to take the focus off of them.

    It sounds like you're on your way to avoiding the whole mess. Keep in mind the advice of many of the above and you'll be fine. Just do not be surprised when, no matter how hard you try to avoid it, some bonehead calls you that. Remember, chances are pretty good they have no idea what they're talking about.

    -be safe

    I totally agree

    I have seen EMT's with that paragod attitude..
