  2. Third watch was the best/most realistic show on the EMS side that I have seen. I couldn't even get through the first 10 minutes of the "Trauma" series premier, and have not watched a single minute since. PS - Third watch is the also the only EMS/emergency service related show I have watched with any regularity.

  3. That's what we need.. A British version of Bunny, or Rabbit, w/e his name is. I actually don't bother watching it b/c House runs over into the 9'oclock hour, making DVR capturing of it pointless.

  5. Third Watch was a good EMS/FD/PD show until it's last 2 seasons, when the EMS and Fire story lines became more of a support for PD than a partner. It just became a cop show with a small side of EMS and Fire.

  6. There are legal issues with using medical devices in ways other than they were intended, so I would discourage attempting to intubate in this fashion... Intubation may end up going the way of MAST, we might end up using alternative airways instead!

  7. All they had to do was dial 911 - at anytime. I question the story of individuals that 1-eat themselves up to 800 lbs and 2 - live with someone that "loves" them so much that they keep feeding them. What would we say about the wife of a crack addict that keeps bringing it to him until he dies? I deal with the morbidly obese and I feel extreme compassion for them. Its a family disease tho. And do you know how much it costs to feed someone that gains 300 lbs. on top of an existing 500? While I agree with you phil that universal health care is a basic human right, I can't let you pin this entire situation on society, or health care or really anyone except the individuals stuffing their faces and those bringing the food to their elbow so they can proceed to stuff their faces.

  8. HAhahahahahahahahahahaha. I love this. More to the point, I think your proving our point for us. What some people on th is forum fail to realize is that, yes you can JUST get a cert. and play paramedic, but doesn't make it right. Increasing our professional standards is the only way to improve our profession. It is the only way to improve scope of practice, patient care, and yes pay/benefits. Maybe my rep will go to hell like Diazepam for saying this, but maybe we can learn a thing or two from our friends up North. PS-I served with some brothers in arms from the Canadian Military. Arrogent.... Never. You just have to understand the sense of humor.........

  11. We had a member take the course, while pregnant. The only issue was lifting, which, IMO, would be a bad idea. However, the individual passed all of the written and practical skills (sans lift and carry). She was passed, and following delivery and some time, we "signed her off" as having observed proper lifting and carrying techniques. I really wouldn't see any problem, as long as you're aware of what you can and cannot do safely.

  12. 1) Go with the points reduction class, if only for yourself. 2) Does your area allow for EMTs who treat only, and don't drive the ambulances? I would explore this possibility.

  13. I would be inclined to use other adjectives or nouns, are you the only practitioner in your service / institute / department ? Are you even Left Handed yourself? Oddly enough because in my kits checklist I have selection of blades.

  14. Go to the "city hall", or municipal building, and talk to someone that knows the answer. However, the way we do it, the municipality provides workman's compensation by law, and we provide death and disability; as well as liability. But we don't provide like health insurance. Just for duty related injuries, illness and loss of life. As far as I know, there's nothing that would prevent a person from being added on, as long as they were approved to be a member of the organization. Usually, you're only rejected for past infamous crimes, like felonies, etc.

  17. SAN FRANCISCO — Paramedic TV drama "Trauma" will be returning to the air after NBC reversed its decision to cancel the show, it emerged Friday. The network has requested three more episodes after saying last month production would be halted after the initial 13-episode order, according to reports. It has ordered additional material following a recent spike in ratings and may order more in the future if the show continues to attract viewers. Despite high production costs for on-location filming and special effects, "Trauma" attracted just 6.9 million viewers for the season premiere and maintained less than a 2.0 rating shortly before cancelation. It has faced strong criticism from much of the EMS community, with both NAEMT and the IAFC’s EMS Section sending letters to show producers protesting the creative direction of the drama and labeling it an "injustice" to those in the profession. On Thursday, it was also announced that the show will air in the UK after cable network Virgin1 agreed a deal with NBC. http://www.ems1.com/ems-news/606015-nbcs-trauma-revived-after-cancellation/
