MEDIC TAG

It seems like the best way to handle this information is to use RFID chips on existing MedicAlert bracelets/necklaces. You would still have the existing engraved information on the bracelet, but in addition, you can have much more information stored on the RFID chip. For instance, in addition to the fact that you're diabetic and have epilepsy, you can also record that you have had 3 heart attacks last year and triple bypass surgery 6 months ago, record your Doctor's name and contact information, next of kin/emergency contact information and anything else that is pertinent.

A simple scanner that only costs a few hundred dollars can quickly and easily read the information. Heck, they could start building the scanner into monitors to automatically scan the information as soon as it comes within range of the patient and display a symbol on the screen to let you know there is more available information than heart rate/BP/O2 Sat, and heart rhythm. RFID chips can be made and information written on them for next to nothing. It is extremely easy to update information (such as surgeries, major traumas, changing medical conditions, etc. Add a RFID encoder to every hospital, ambulance company and GPs office and you have an additional source of revenue as well. Charge 5 bucks or less to update information on the chip for each patient that wants it and you end up with up to date information, easier medical care and new revenue for existing healthcare providers.
