  1. my state is about to add the intermediate level, the planned scope is

    [*]IVs (NS, LR & D50W)

    [*]Combitube/King LT-D insertion

    [*]Cardiopulmonary bypass (apneic patients only)

    [*]IM Glucagon & Narcan

[*]Burr holes & icepick lobotomies (with medical control authorization)

    [*]Nebulized Albuterol

they are saying the class is going to be 78 hours over five weekends....at first the course was going to be like 120 hours but that's just to damn long around here......I mean who can take that much time off...thats longer than an EMT course for crying out loud...not like any of this stuff is that hard to do

    anyway

    later

120 hpurs to long :?: ...it should be more lik 200 hours since your are giving them drugs to give people, and with a more advanced scope.. they just need a lot more education to have ALS skills.

  2. Are the EVOC classes always offer by the service? Can you take them before you get the job? I would be interested in adding an EVOC to my education even though I am not currently applying to ambulance jobs. I am happy, for now, getting my experience at a hospital.

yep they offer them every couple months.

  3. While I have not transported either to or from a dialysis center in over 25 years, one thing was beaten into me by the staffs at the various centers: NOBODY but the patients are to sit in those chairs, due to understandable concerns of Blood Borne Pathogen contaminations, either from or to the dialysis patients. We usually were allowed, begrudgingly, to use a corner of the receptionist's desk.

Maybe that is just the way things were done in the NYC area, the centers by you might be less stringent in this type enforcement, or times have changed in that aforementioned 25 years.

we have an EMS office at our local hospital
