dispatch comes on and was like yes FD Bs engine has caught fire while enroute to you and needs assistence to put it out

umm im a first responder...thats BLS...do i qualify for a name ruff?

the way my county is set up...we have third service EMS stations which are volunteer and a sheriffs department paramedic chase car who we contrat....so while we provide BLS and transport...we have ALS on station a a chase car from the sheriffs departmen.

personally (its the only system ive been in) is one that the medic is in a chase car and can respond with the ambulance and transport with the patient or let the basics handle it

Sorry Powell, I should have mentioned in my original reply... you don't have to worry about offending anybody with this topic. No offense taken. I mean really, we all already know we get no recognition. This isn't news to anybody, I hope, lol. But it does get brought up a lot here, so there are certainly people who are more than tired of being reminded of it. More than half of the people in EMS don't want us to progress into a separate, recognisable, professional entity, so it's a touchy subject.

So we have CFR, EMT-B, EMT-BA, EMT-I 85, EMT-I 99, and EMT-P? Thats (fill in the blank)'ed up!

lol thats not many compared to a few states and Indiana is "phasing" the EMT-BA out. But my service puts on an EMT-BA class every 6 months lol. and I think its only a hundred hours more trainign then some field sticks...not much for a person allowed to start a line :shock:

In Indiana, we have EMT-B, EMT-BA, EMT-I, and EMT-P.

How those two in the middle relate to 85/99, I don't know.

I you want to "test the waters" get a job as an ER tech at a good hospital, you will learn more there then you would being an "I" anyway!.

brent the EMT-A (advance) is a basic that can start a line and set up a some saline...then for the EMT-I we have 85/99 both lol
