  1. I was trained to gather all equiptment that you might need to use, put on cot, report to IC. He will then put you where he deems necessary, so if and when EMS is needed, he knows exactly where you are. And he is the man in charge.
  2. heres a "trick"....Do vitals on all pts., as long as you can do it safely. Got a drunk, or a psych pt, make sure that they have been frisked. It doesn't hurt if you decide to go over them again to double check Fire standby? Park far enough away for all Fire Apparatus to get through, DO NOT park in front of a plug. Working fire? Grab all gear, backboard, collars, etc, place on cot, and stage close to the scene, but far enough away to not be in the way
  3. Nah, another one of his illustrious partners! lol All seriousness, I did learn ALOT from him, and I am a better EMT for meeting him.
  4. Eh, ACPD did get fairly good towards the end of my run with ACEMS. The Medic I was referring to, referred me to you! 8)
  5. You know all the bums by first and last name, SS#, where they hangout, what they drink, and all their ins. info. A nosebleed call turns into a code that you work on the boardwalk in front of 50 + people. All of whom go "ahhh" when you crack ribs and when you defib. And then get angry when Paramedic yells at them, so you end up calling for "ACPD to respond forthwith to location for an extremely hostile crowd" You just don't go down certain streets without ACPD You get caught f*cking up on DriveCam, and get yanked from driving, you become an EDP from all the charts you write. You PAY people to take your Fri and Sat night shifts. Ahh, Urban EMS......I wont miss you a bit!
  6. Seems to me that only time windows need to break is if you NEED to access pt. or roof is coming off. And remember kids.......TRY before you PRY
  7. OK, Bulls*ht, I call Bulls*ht!! In the State of NJ, you need to be at least 18 to be a "solo" EMT, or work in the back of the ambulance without another older then 18 EMT present. 12 CPR "saves" so how many times has God won?
  8. x1 to what he said. I left a MUCH higher paying transport job to go do prehospital EMS. I have learned SO much since I did, and, although my wallet has taken a big hit, my moral has only gone up. This isn't something to pay the bills, this is a CAREER, and something I want to EXCEL at, and you just can't do that in transport
  9. While that incident was horrific, it must be used as a tool to teach others. However, the footage should be for Fire/EMS/Police personel only. Billy Bob has no need to see that kind of thing, and the victims and the families deserve some privacy. God Bless those who died, and watch over those affected And a question, does FDNY EMS carry SCBAs? I saw several of the tan coats with SCBAs slung on shoulders.....intresting if you do, and kudos for being proactive
  10. Well, for those who sink, that is what AMR, Senior Transportation, Ambivan, etc are for
  11. Sorry if that was unclear... If you have NOT worked 911 before, dont try to jump into a busy system such as AC EMS, or Camden EMS, FDNY EMS, etc. I feel that if I didnt start out somewhere slow, and was mentored, learned the system, etc, that I would have failed miserably going into such a busy system. I have a friend who I work with now who went to AC right after school, and was bombarded with calls, with little experience, and left after less then a week. An experience like that could be devastating for a new EMT, and cause them to leave the line of work. If you live in the SJ area, start out somewhere like EHT, or Mutual Aid, or Hamiliton Twp., get some experience, learn how to write your charts, do a proper pt. assesment. THEN try to move up by going to a busy system. I am glad that I got experience before I went to AC, or I would have been burned out.
  12. After having worked at AC EMS for a while, I love it. I cant wait to get a Full time spot I would NOT reccommend it to a brand new EMT, however, I would also not reccomend it to anybody who doesnt have a good amount of 911 experience. It is a GREAT learning experience, but it is a tough gig to get used to.
  13. Been there, done that with CHSB......they wouldnt let me on the road with NR/NJEMT, so I dispatched for them..... wasnt really my cup of tea, but ya never know..... So I`m caught between a rock and a hard place now......go finish up and get my FFII, or get my Medic... damn, I duno.... any suggestions?
  14. OK, so maby they whole Jersey thing was a bad idea. Im thinking about going back to whence i came. BUT, I want to do some private/EMS only until I can get back into shape for Fire. So, whos hiring for EMS in the Central Florida area? And Coastal Health Systems of Brevard does NOT count as EMS.....more like Medical Transportation
  15. Even better, leave the "secondary" Parked mode on while trying to respond to a call.....it dont work too good
  16. You can work for a KICKass company/municipality, but you are still restriced by the states over bearing rules. I work AC EMS, and Somers Point EMS, but am nothing more then a taxi driver/bandaid boy
  17. Yea, thats what I had pretty much heard, but its gotta be better then Somers Points 1 or 2 calls a day, and I want to be damn good at BLS before I go to Medic School
  18. 678...sorry, i didnt even see you responded! I got hired for AC EMS, my physical is this monday, and should *SHOULD* be on first shift the 15th im stoked as hell! Even though I do mostly 911 for Mutual Aid Emergency Services for Somers Point, AC EMS is the place to go to get experience
  19. BACK on topic.... I just ogt my background check infor from Exceptional. Hopefully I will have more info to share soon!
  20. With a C/C that had lessoned, CAO x3, and in no obvious distress. Had somehting happened to change that, you bet you ass I would have lit it up, but why risk it?
  21. Vitals somewhere in neighborhood of 132/90, HR 84, R 16 No pain Walked to ambulance, said dizzyness had lessoned, not as nauseous. Not bad at all, IMO
  22. There was no Medic. We are all BLS, with the hospital running ALS, and there was none dispatched.
  23. Per him, since we dont know, we HAVE to go code. Its a legal issue he says
  24. He never said anythign until after the call. IF we did go code, it would have saved MABY 15-30 seconds.....Not a good choice IMO
