  1. Yes Sir, The EMT-E's in Virginia are allowed to start IV's, Intubate, and administers some medications per protocol. Yes, the EMT-E is the old Shock Trauma and to me is more based on the medical side instead of trauma. There were more questions reguarding medical situations. I have heard that maybe they will come up with the EMT-A again but I am not sure how soon or what the difference is. It would be great if they could figure out a way to combine EMT-E and I because there are so many different levels. The meds I am allowed to administer per our protocols are: Oxygen, EPI(SC), Albuterol, Nitroglycerin tablets and paste, Benedryl, Narcan, Glucagon, D50 and aspirin. I know its not much but if anything we do have the capabilites to use advanced airway manuevers if needed and thats the most important right? If you don't have an airway you don't have a patient. I am fairly new at this level and I have much to learn if anyone has any advise I would appreciate it. Otherwise, if you have any more questions for me just let me know. I did take the college level Anatomy and Physiology so I would understand the human body and its functions a little better. I learned a lot in that class and advise anyone else who would like additional training to take that course. CJ
  2. Hey there I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good websites to study for the NREMT-I. I have two guys I know that will be taking it hear pretty quick and I know they are a little nervous. Has anyone taken the NREMT-I test on the computer? How much different is it? Are there any good tips or advise you can give them? Thanks Everyone!!
  3. I have been an EMT for about several years and an EMT-E for a while hear lately. I would not treat my patient with caffiene either I was just interested in if it does work. Just in case like you said you get into particular "CRISIS'S". I have plenty of way for treating asthma in the back of an ambulance. I know I am not as high trained as some of you all but the things I can do seem to work rather nicely! Thanks guys great replys.
  4. hey guys trying to stir up some more discussion....Does anyone know any good tricks of the trade? I heard that treating asthma with no other choice can be treated by giving a patient coffee. I do not think I would give a patient of mine coffee even if it was available for I fear what it might actually do!!!
  5. Hi everyone, I am new at this and wanted to start a discussion to see how it goes. Me and a couple of other medics were discussing scene safety the other day and I was wondering what experiences you all have with scene safety...especially interested in some self defense moves if anyone knows any. We are looking for ways to help our duty crew learn how to defent themselves in an unsafe environment especially in an ambulance going down the road when all crap breaks loose and a patient becomes combative or tries to grab you for some odd reason. If you know of any self defense moves that we can teach providers or any stories of scene safety that we can act out and see how they react let me know. I appreciate everyones responses.
