I had a hard time the first night along with many. It's funny how you get attached to personalities even on the net. I had my fair share of arguments with dustbunny but I respected him like I respect many here and I have made many friends here. I never met him personally but I found out that he was sick and the one and only time I ever had private chat with him, I found out that he had never had the pleasure of tasting canned salmon. This may not sound like a big deal but in my house canned salmon is like gold. So I had helped my husband can the smoked sockeye and it sat away for a year. I figured that since I helped can I could grab a few cans, little did I know it was being counted . I told dustbunny that I would send both plain and smoked as no body should die without tasting it. I sent it down with a nice card that had suggestions on how to eat it and it also said he didnt have to share if he didnt want to (I try to make people share, right dwayne). Anyways I think of that little story and it makes me smile. Maybe to you all having a hard time think of one good memory of him and when your feeling a bit sad think of that one memory.

He is one of the few that knew Dustbunny personally and he knows his views and I know that AK would never state anything that would offend Rob. Excuses, excuses. Yes the potential for an accident behind the first accident is possible, but statistically, how many first responders have been hit or injured in a secondary crash (I imagine less than 1%). As far as being sued for wrong treatment, most states have a good samaritan law so that excuse does not work either. Just admit it, you are lazy and/or burned out.

Ruff isnt making excuses, he is making sense. He has small kids and small kids have a habit of not listening and a higher chance of getting out of the vehical and getting hurt. There have been alot of accidents involving good samaritans getting hurt by stopping to help, and you better take a good look at your good samaritan laws, because Im not to sure if medical personel are covered under it in the states because they have a higher level of training. And to come here and call someone who infact is well respected and call him lazy and burned out is of bad form, just saying

There was a study on sleep patterns and teenagers. If you make your teen go to bed earlier then they are more apt to be more active and healthy, which would mean less obesity. I live in a Native community and Obesity is very high here. It is not uncommen to have a 250 to 350 lbs pt.

But before we take away all the obese kids from their families you have to make sure the problem is not from medical or emotional issues. One of the problems here is sexual abuse and what happens is the victim will become obese so they are left alone by predetors.

I also think that we should not be feeding our kids processed foods as much as we do. I have never really cared for alot of processed foods so there fore my kids never really ate it. The most kraft dinner they had was 3 times a year maybe. I luv this slogan "Try Organic Food......or as your grand parents called it, FOOD.

The other issue is that our kids dont drink enough water and are to easy to grab a pop and they consume alot of liquid calories, so in the end if you dont buy the junk the kids dont eat the junk.

You know it isn't sex that makes a marriage work, but it is taking the time to make love to someone so that they make you and you make them feel like they are the most important person in the world. I do agree with Dwyane in this, but knowing him and how he talks about his wife he dosnt just have sex with Babs.

When you give yourself to some completely that is when all of the other aspects of the marriage fall into place, like communication (also very important) and just plain affections.

We would like to think this guy is an asshole, and a coward but really when it comes down to it we have no idea what his life at home is like, and is he just acting like a gorrilla because there are "young bucks" around to gloat to. Its just like the "biggest fish story" I am a true believer in these senerio's there is always something more to the story.

It has been my experience the you talk to them in a monatone voice, If you bring emotion into the senerio they pick it up and that can be a big triger. I also never show any sympathy for them, "Im so sorry you feel that way" just makes them think they are dummies. You should try to get to their level. When I do these calls I take as much time as is needed, dealing with mental health in any form is normally my longest calls.

Tourinquet is your last option and if you have to do it you make sure it is as close to the end of the stump as possible. When doing this you have to keep in mind that by using a tourinquet the chance of reatachment decreases substantualy.

We tend to use the handles on top more for guiding the chair. The flippy handles on the bottom are taped on ours as it gets in the way and I have almost lost a finger. Im thinking back and we use the frame more that the handles for the lifting but it isn't because things have broken but because it is more compfortable to lift by the frame.

Being from such a small town I do feel that I should stop, one of my problems is that I am 9/10 time on call, and the last time I called dispatch (she was a bag is all I can say) she made me feel like I was out trolling for pts (and it took me 10 mins to convince him he needed an ambulance. Anyways I witness a fall 54 yr old male who is disabled, he was avoiding a car and kind of fell back, gentle is the only word I can think of. I didnt want to stop as I was on my way to the store for dog food but it was in the end a good thing. He is always in pain so it was hard to gage, but when he said I have pain on pain I clued in, ended up being a fractured femur (still cant see it) so bad that if he had stood up it would have gone into his pelvis and then a whole new can worms.

When I travel I carry gloves and a bag and I will stop, because when I think about it all, if I was in an accident I would want someone qualified to stop for me even if they just held my hand and talked to me while the ambulance showed up.

So I am 46 years old and in my life time there has been approx 60k paid for me and my children up to the age of 18. With the exception of approx 10 years of one child I didnt pay as he is a status Indian. So I will list what I can remember in hospital care and maybe some one can tell me approx what that would have cost me in the states.

18 months (3rd degree) burned abds on stove (dont ask) emergency and 3 day hospital stay

20 months drank lemon oil asperated it, 6 months in hospital and 3 months in rehab

8 yrs ears pinned back 5 day hospital stay

14yrs broken ankle x-rays etc,

16 tonsils out 4 days in hospital also treated for pneumonia

19 emergency c-section 6 day hospital stay and child in intensive care for 3 (Spinal that didnt work)

23 natural birth (spinal worked) 10 day hospital stay child with severe jaundice

28 natural birth 2 day hospital stay

34 pheumonia 5 day hospital stay

full prenatal care for all three

tubes tied up

On average 3 trips to dr per year

1st child at 17 surgery for a torn tendon in the knee and probably on average 3 trips to the dr per year

2nd child care for a hole in his heart and on average 3 trips to the dr per year

3rd child tonsiles out, adnoids out, circumcision (medicaly needed) hernia and toung snipping pneumonia 4 day hospital stay and on average 3 trips to the dr per year.

I know that as a child I ate many things and stuck many things up my nose off to the dr, some how my children were not as goofy as i was but I would not have paid any more if they were.

ER Doc I understand where your comming from but if you as a dr feel you need to shove 30 pts in your day to make money then it will be your pts that suffer as you cant give them the same care as you to 20. One thing the states really need to look at is how easy it for people to sue drs for the stupidest crap and once that is done maybe your own insurance will go down and that would make a difference on the bottom line right? Yes we have alot of problems in Canada with our healthcare but I have to admit that if you need something that is life and death then you get it (Im sure some have died) if you want to have elective surgery then yep you have to wait and people go to the states because people dont like to wait for anything these days.

AK or is it Mike, if pharmaceutical companies can only charge so much in Canada (because of our legislation) why cant the gov of the USA do the same and bring the prices down in your country. I know that yes it cost alot to create and get drugs approved but come on there has to be some sort of line.

I have been thinking alot in the last week about 9/11 just the same others. I have had a bit of trouble trying to feel anything good about the celebrations that have happened in NYC. I think that when we celebrate (that might not be the right word) disasters it makes things worse for those that are left behind. Im not saying we shouldn't recognize these events but watch 2 weeks of commercials and listening to the news has been nothing less than depressing. Today I got up and thought of those that have died, gave a wished to the families hoping their day may bring more closure and not more grief, I mowed and raked my yard, washed my back deck down and did a call, I still have to BBQ beef tenderloin for my family. I will have a nice cold beer and a nice hot bath and then go to bed and tommorrow I will go about my bussiness, as life goes on.

I hope that everyone everywhere today moved forward in the wake of this tragity.

Ear Infections,

I have encountered 2 pts that have presented as a stroke or MI and in the end of both they had ear infections. One was even medvaced for a CAT scan. Before she left our hospital I asked if anyone had looked in her ears, she said no and even the nurse in the room said no. After the CAT scan the dr said he couldn't find the problem so she said "No one has looked in my ears" He did and surprise massive ear infection.......................

One paper I had to do was the question "why does GHB present as a Narcotic?" It was pretty interesting talking to the doc's they all had their own idea's, listened to them all and got a A.
