  1. Sorry, do not know how this got posted twice, ADMIN, can you delete one of them ? Thanks
  2. I guess it depends on what kind of device you are using ? All plastic, yes clorox will kill 99.9%, but if it has mesh or fabric in the middle (like CPR training barriers), I would not be so sure. But here is the question I always asked my medics. Whenever they got through with an arrest, I would ask how well the cleaned their laryngoscope blades (before disposables), they would also answer that they did a good job, then I would ask them to stick the blade in their mouth. No one ever took me up on doing that, even though they had really soaked/cleaned as they should. I feel the same way about these barrier devices.
  3. I would not risk reuse, I would replace. The human mouth is one of the most bacteria filled areas you can stick your tongue in (JK)
  4. You arrive to find an infant (lets say 6 months old) that is cyanotic, sats in the 70s, all other vital signs normal for age (a little bit tachy). The mom says the patient was diagnosed with plastic left heart and was discharged from the children's hospital after having the first stage / procedure, "A Norwood" performed a few weeks ago. You check out the home health folder and find that the patient has "Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome" This is the cause of the cyanosis, there is no trick here, or some other hidden condition that should require you to play Dr. House. I have given you the diagnosis, so now the question is how many of us know what this is, and the proper way to treat it in the field. So start googling, and tell me why the child is blue, and what kinds of treatment you would offer in the field. P.S. The children's hospital is 50 miles away, there are closer adult facilities, and you can not fly the patient due to weather. This is not as uncommon as you may think, especially if you have a Pediatric Hospital (with cardiac capabilities) nearby that draws people in from great distances.
  5. Holy McGuyver Batman !!! Why not just use a $5.00 pocket mask, they make them small enough to fit on your keychain ? And in the CNA setting, you should have a crash cart nearby, so why risk infection with flimsey alternatives ? Do you really want MRSA an CDiff ?
  6. I agree doc, but there are many who believe that Mormonism is a cult and not a religion, and I think that is what is keeping Romney in the low 20's, as the other flavors of the month come and go. I must admit Newt has been a great debate performer, and might be the next best besides Romney to beat Obama, atleast in the debates.
  7. With that history, it would not shock me to see a really freaky rhythm, but hard to say when I cant see it. Patients with that low of EF can have alot of non-textbook ectopy that does not fit "the rules". Someone told me that Philips monitors have a hard time reading paced rhythms and makes a normotensive patient appear to be in VTach, but i have never used one.
  8. No, flaming had some good points, although it is rare> You can predict your call volume fairly easily, if nothing else, you can pick your busiest day and staff for that day everyday >Not efficient, but predictable> You should also have a plan for sickouts and injuries, but most municipal systems will not entertain the thought of using part-time employees to fill vacancies. At one service I worked at we had an extra medic for each batallion every day, and those extras floated all over the county to cover holes, if there were none, they took the mobile supervisors place so that they could do office work.
  9. ????????????????????????????????????????????? Hate to disagree, but I saw a patient who was cyanotic from constant hiccups, had them all day. Sure it was a one in a million kind of thing, but I saw it. I think flaming is one of those rookies who believes EMS is supposed to be what he read in a text book, and is disillusioned when he sees/hears real EMS. Imagine you worship Tom Brady (football QB) and then you see him on TV bitching about the fans not being supportive enough and that he is not paid enough ? How would you see him from that point on ? So go easy on him, his heart is probably in the right place, he just does not have the intellect to put his thoughts into conversation.
  10. I agree, I can not believe a grown man would see a child being sodimized in a shower, and not beat the hell out of the adult. I used to respect Joe-Pa, but I can't any longer. All of them should go to jail.
  11. I hate to be politically incorrect, but after all the ups and downs of this campaign, I have some concerns. I do not want to start a race or holy war, but I think there are some behind the scenes conversations among the american voters. So I ask: 1. Will you not vote for Romney because he is a Mormon (same for Huntsman) 2. Did the republican machine try to take down Herman Cain. As stated by someone, I think the Democrats would have held onto that information until the week before the election ? 3, Will you not vote for Herman, because he does not speak "presidentially" (meaning he does not speak white, like Obama) 4. To the women in the room, do you believe Cain's accusers, it was noted this week that the first accuser filed another sex harassment claim at her next job.
  12. I heard from the reporter who first broke the story says that there he created a prostitution ring of children for big doners
  13. can't speak for him AK, but I think he may have been talking about our political leaders who were suggesting that it was time for China and Russia to disavow Iran or put some pressure on them.
  14. I applaud Herman for at least putting a proposal out there, but the country is not ready for 9-9-9, and he lacks foreign policy experience.
  15. No, I am not aware of the fringe groups, but you are obviously more intelligent on the topic than I. But to the poster's question, I think he was trying to say that "morally" the execution was wrong, and he used his moral compass as his guide. Whether you believe in Buddha, Jesus ,or Muhammed, I think all of those religions preach against murder.
  16. There are only two who have a real chance. You do not really believe any of the other republican flavors of the week can actually win ?
  17. I agree with you Dwayne, not sure how anyone can believe in Jesus, but I would say that it was not religion that caused this, but it was instead man's interpretation of their religion. All religions (except Mormons, Scientologists, and Amish) have a fringe element that hijack their religion.
  18. Just wondering who you like: Obama or Romney ?
