    Hello

What is your ultimate education goal, EMS-wise?
  3. They don't glass them up around here. They don't mind being robbed I guess. LOL.
  4. I haven't read most of the posts by others, so I apologize if I echo anyone elses statements. We aren't fixing the root of the problem. If you have a leaky pipe you can duct tape it, and it will stop for a while, until the water wears down the tape. But its a better, and in the long run easier, fix to fix the whole system isn't it? My household income is considered probably right in the middle of the middle class, I won't see one damn benefit from this "reform." I will see more taxes, more problems with my insurance company, more problems at the doctors office. Why is it that we PROMOTE a society, where if you are uneducated it is just fine for you to lay back, pop out 5 kids and live off of MY earnings? Anyone in EMS sees the abuse of Medicare every stinking day. People call 911 for am Ambulance (~$300 BLS bill), stay in an ER (~$500 in fees at least), and a couple tyenol (~$20 a pill in the ER?) because they DONT WANT TO SPEND THEIR $10 IN CASH TO GO BUY A BOTTLE OF ASPRIN AT WAL-GREENS! I promise you however they will have that free taxi they got on a voucher make a quick stop at a gas station for a pop and candy bar. All while they laugh about spending $900 for their "primary care ER" visit.
  5. They need to sell that technology! Theres alot of people who are trying to find that! Just like fireproof bunker gear.
  6. Ill say it again like a broken record.... We need a journal that follows up and commissions ems lodd reports like niosh does for the fire service. So much more coujld be learned that way.
  7. I am all about discussing incidents in order to grow ourselves. Monday morning QB'ing is the best way to learn mistakes not to make. However, when death is involved, like it was yesterday maybe sometimes it is best to wait. Just a little bit. Imagine being this medic's wife, or mother, and coming across our board talking about how wrong he was in his choices. We need to learn from others mistakes, yes, but we also should show compassion in doing so. This is a great example of how you can't trust the media either. First report was a stabbing, then a confrontation, then head injuries, now an MI. Just some things to think about, ya'll.

Are you using diapers or feminine hygine pads for the rear end, and the posible.... undesireable... results?
  9. Thanks for pointing out I still haven't made it to school.
  10. This is another case where a national EMS organization would be worth its weight. They could take these highly covered cases where there was a breach of duty, or supposed breach of duty, research them, and publish an independent report for review by its members. Much in the same way that NIOSH issues reports on firefighter deaths. Unfortunately, by the time some official findings comes out of this, it will probably be long gone from our memory and just another headline to gloss over.
  11. Lil'Wayne.... Can you find out the maker, or distributor of this?
  12. Patent it Anth. It sounds like a great idea to me. I think it would work that way as well. It would give the provider enough time to get distance and shield from the combative patient.
  13. *cue dumb face* Do they make those, or did you just invent it in thought?
  14. Yes, and yes. I only get 12 days off a year, have to pick and choose wisely, with 6 of them already scheduled for a vay-cay to Gatlinburg in May.
  15. That.. is the longest sentence ever.
  16. I just have one thing.... (This is an old picture if you look at the layout of the page!)
  17. Phil.... I am not taking any sides in the overall debate, but he is right. In American politics, the only thing that matters is the money. If you aren't lining someones pocketbook, you won't get near the same treatment as someone who does. I don't know the numbers, but reading Mikes statement in the other thread, I wouldn't be surprised if IAFF out spent NAEMT 3:1 in lobbying. Probably even more then that.
  18. I just need to get this out there. She is over-rated and falls down, a lot. Thats it. If you can put a EMS spin on this, feel free to try. =D
  19. If you want to do an inservice check with your local haz mat guru... Theres some bulletins they can probably get to you.
  20. I don't have our protocols infront of me to quote, but they read similar. I am sure many places do as well. If you live in a metro area with 5+ hospitals, I can see this being an issue. However, if you are in a town with two hospitals, and your chest pain patient wants to go to hospital A which is 2 miles farther than hospital B what right do you have to tell them no? As far as the article goes, they are selling magazines, its filler material. Readers Digest isn't the Paramedic Digest, its demo is the 50+ age group. You can't read too much into what its saying. I doubt that one article is going to have a wide spread effect on our care.
  21. Lucky to get reports on a cardiac arrest here. Five min from just about anywhere to the hospital. Driver tells dispatch call the hospital and tell them what we got.
  22. +1 to above. Seriously, reflect on why you need them before you install them. I am a volly FF I haven't had a blue light in over a year now. More liability ant danger than its worth. A dead responder is a useless responder.
