  1. His reaction was that he was "told that they were radiopaque and you could xray and see the fracture if there was one" he then went on and said he was going to take that back to the powers that be to let them know that they were not radiopaque. But me thinks that somehow he already knew it and no one had ever called him on it. It was a sort of deer in the headlight look you get from a new medic when you stump him with a patient he's never had to deal with before. His company never returned to our service to sell us anything else.
  2. I just do as she says and nobody gets hurt
  3. You know I spent some time in a very long class (8 days) that was EMS related about 3 years ago. I took the class during a vacation I had to take. I was staying at a local fire house and I got to know the fire/ems guys really well. I know my example here doesn't compare but I was pretty bored at night just sitting around a fire house that had 2 or three guys in it waiting for a call that might or might not come in. I was doing some ride time with them as well as just an observer. I got to know them and they got to know me. I would not have dreamed that they would have had any issue with me telling them about my life in missouri when I was staying with them in another state. I got to know their families and they got to know mine(through me). I had some issues at home with the wife and kids and these guys I stayed with listened to me and were sort a couple of strong shoulders that I needed at that time. I bitched about things to them and they listened. They bitched to me and I would have never even thought that someone would say "oh he's not cut out for this type of work" just because I was complaining about home or talking about home. That's just silly. But to bitch about not getting paid especially when you knew what happened the last time you were deployed or helped out, the length of time it takes the government to pay anything out, you don't really have much right to complain about pay when you are working then and there. Once the deployment is over then you can complain. I am sure that Dwayne will show up in this and give his perspective of both the PNG and remote medic work and his work at the gulf.
  4. Our service one time was demo'ed off brand SAM splints. We asked about radiopaqueness and the rep said "NO PROBLEMO you can x-ray right through it, guaranteed" Well we took him up on that challenge since we were a hospital based EMS System and we took his splint down to X-ray and wrapped my arm with the sam splint and we took a forearm x-ray. All we saw was the "Off brand" Sam splint and Not a single forearm bone. It turned out that they were not radiopaque and this rep was shown the door. But I think for the OP's original question is that he was going to use them for his personal use and not for use on his EMS truck. If he is using the splints to splint his family or friends in a disaster or initial medical emergency then I don't see any issue with him buying the off brand ones. But one CAVEAT to you Miscusi - Use them all you want but make sure that if you hand them off to the EMS Crew who may transport the patient, let the EMS crew know that the splint may not be radiopaque so they can alert the ED. The Emergency departments might operate under the assumption that these are true SAM splints and they will waste valuable time and expense in x-raying your family member and they will have to take the splint off and put on one that is able to be x-ray'ed through.
  5. I urge you to watch the part in The Incredibles when Edna Moles is talking to Mr Incredible about why she won't do capes then Spenac. You might change your tune.
  6. Yeah but with a gibbs slap to the head courtesy of Triemal, I stopped. My last post was not focused towards anyone in particular.
  7. I love jumpsuits but the poop issue is a big one especially in public bathrooms. It's a tough thing to keep the jumpsuit off the floor when you are trying to poop. Yeah yeah yeah - TMI but seriously, some public bathrooms are floor non grata. You never know what might be growing on the floor. But just for functionality and purpose they work nicely. But they also have to be altered for me in order to have them fit me.
  8. Actually, where I worked, many of the services who came in to our ER would only bring patients to us once or twice a year. They would clean us out of blankets. When confronted they said that since they brought us a patient that they were entitled to take whatever amount of blankets that they wanted to. I took off at least one of their trucks 25 blankets that had our hospital logo on it. These services were the same ones who would bring us a patient from 200 miles away on one of our hospital EMS systems backboards or splints. So yes, stealing them was not an issue in their eyes. And Miscusi, PM sent.
  9. how do I do that, change my settings I mean? I figured it out. He's on the ignore list.
  10. And if you follow Dwaynes advice, just be sure to book a room for your next sitting of the test. You will fail the test if you use his test taking skills, but be assured that he was fully joking when he wrote this.
  11. Hang on a second, can you clarify what you mean. How do you know which instance will simply be routine ALS versus a situation where your clinical treatments will be based on your findings? I don't really understand that statement. Shouldn't you always be working towards a clinical treatment versus just "a routine als call"??????
  12. You start nonsense no matter where you are at. I simply responded that if you are working for a service, then why even bother to pay for the fill. I'm sure if you asked your director or supervisor they would say "sure go ahead and fill the tank here" but I tend to think that you won't let your sense of ethics get in the way of a "NO" answer anyway and you'd just fill the tank at your service anyway when your supervisor wasn't looking. I mean you don't think cheating is any big deal so one can extrapolate that you wouldn't think that filling your tank for free would be any big deal either. I mean with your extra awesome sense of marital fidelity where cheating on your wife is a OK deal that filling your oxygen tank at your service would also be an OK thing to do. You are the one who has throughout your posts shown that your integrity and honesty and ethics are completely bat crap crazily skewed. Care to correct me?
  13. Yes, the best place to start is contacting DAN and asking them what the closest dive recomp chambers are to you. Then you need to set up some sort of transport protocol on how to get those patients to the recomp chamber in the most safe and medically efficient method. Be that by air or by ground. There is a lot to know but the first call which should always be to DAN for a diving emergency will put into motion most of the correct and prudent steps to treat the patient in the best manner possible.
  14. Or you can just steal them, I mean it's not like there's any ethics involved or not like it's on the same caliber as cheating or anything like that.
  15. Rescue Miscusi responding to:::::: As far as I'm concerned, I wish we had an ignore button.
  16. What is his skin color? Could he have a liver issue causing his problem?
  17. wHAT THE HELL. I'm done. If you are dating outside of marriage that means you are cheating on your wife and that's wrong. Oh wait, that's just me and about 50 million other people. Good thing you aren't married, that way your wife won't have to put up with your shenanigans. I smell a troll who is just baiting the trap. I'm done. You sir are a piece of work.
  18. Hey while you are at it, I'm sure that Ebay has a couple of used ambulances for sale. You can probably also get a needs and assessment hearing from the state of new york in order to set up your budding new ambulance service. Yes folks, be sure to call 591 to get Miscusi EMS, the most rockin EMS System in the troboro area. You call, he hauls, unless NYFD get's there first.
  19. And did I just read that you are ok with dating outside of marriage. Are you married? did you read and say your marriage vows, till death do you part? That means that you don't separate the two of you. But oh yeah, cheating to you is Okelee dokelee.
  20. Ok, I had a incident when I was working triage and I remember this patient well. The husband of a patient came in and was very very nice. He asked me who to talk to about a helicopter bill. He said that the insurance denied it, saying that based on the charting by the doctor that the patient was stable enough to go by ground ambulance that the helicopter transport was not warranted. The patient also had the helicopters flight frequent flyer plan which for one low yearly price the helicopter service would accept what the insurance would pay and you would never see a bill. Well the flight plan didn't get any money from the insurance plan because the insurance denied the flight as being UNNECESSARY so they didn't pay the helicopter service Thus leaving this patient to pay the 37000 bill. Background - the patient was being transported by ground initially to the cardiac center for a slightly elevated troponin and a nurse in the ER when a "smart cookie" nurse asked the Patient "Do you have the X Air services membership plan?" and the family said "Yes we do" so the decision was made to go ahead and fly the patient. Remember that the patient initially met the ground transport criteria and it was noted in the T-sheet in the doctors handwriting that the patient would go by ground to the receiving facility. But once it was found out that the patient had the membership plan, the decision was made to fly the patient. NO Patient status had changed, well one status had, the financial status had changed, and that status was that the patient had a membership plan that would allow the patient to go by air and never receive a bill. Well unfortunately this family who is on a fixed income did receive a bill. a huge bill.
  21. Are they perhaps having an exorcism.
  22. Mom also has a very good case for not paying the bill.
  23. there is a time for loving thy neighbor and in a disaster when your family comes first, that time is NOT the time.
  24. He's learned something else today.
