  1. I hear ya, Did ya hear about the guy VOODOO medic who recently passed away. One of the jovial stories about how great a medic he was is that he was walking down the stairs with an open laryngoscope and 5 expired ET Tubes and he tripped and on the way down he accidentally intubated 5 people. Apparantly VooDoo Medic was a great guy and great medic. I'll get the link about his exploits.
  2. Well, she's 4 years old so we are watching her closely, it's only at night prior to bed when she asks about it. Last night she asked one question and then went off to bed. I think we've done a good job talking her through it, time will tell of course.
  3. Dwayne, I agree, I know of several medics who are pretty good medics, and several nurses who are pretty good nurses but no where near the Stellar resume that most here say you have to have. The one nurse I'm talking about has about 6 years of ER experience only, no icu, no nicu, no burn unit nothing other the ER experience. I know of medics who have been on the streets for 4 years or shorter who are now flight medics. Honestly after seeing some medics who got the job on the helicopter, I truly think it might be just who you know and not what and how much you know.
  4. On Saturday morning at around 11:15am eastern time, a man began shooting in the Skater shop at the Columbia Mall. My family and I were walking into the mall at that exact time and experienced something that I never want to experience again. Let me break it down for everyone. I was walking with my wife and two daughters (my son decided to stay home) into Macy's and as we walked outside of Macy's (other end of the mall from the skater shop) we took the escalator up and were attempting to make it to the Build a Bear workshop. All of a sudden there was an onrush of hundreds of people rushing in what I can only express as abject terror towards us. My EMS training kicked in and I knew what was happening, I knew for some reason that there was an active shooting incident somewhere in the mall. My family and I returned into Macy's but we were told that the shooting was happening inside Macy's, Where the hell to go now. Then someone said it was in the food court and I knew then that no-one knew where the shooter was. All out panic ensued from everyone there but I like to think that my medic training kicked in and I grabbed my daughter Gabby, latched onto my wifes coat who had Katerina in her arms and we made our way to the exit of Macy's, All the while I was looking around for the shooter. To say I was scared is an understatement. We exited the building at the time when dozens of police cars were arriving. We left the area. To say that this has not affected me in some way or another, I'm not sure, What really did affect things is my 4 year old heard the words someone got shot and "shooting" and she was a basket case for the entire weekend expecially since we had to go to another mall to get her build a bear that we promised her and we went to another mall to get the promised bear, but she was and is still affected by this. What I do want to bring up is that the extent of the Law enforcement response was incredible even in the short time we were at the mall/parking lot after the shooting. I counted at least 30 police cars arriving and at every entrance to the mall was covered by at least one or two or more officers in full gear. I did not see the EMS Response because they supposedly staged at the other end of the mall near the shooting scene. What I also wanted to make note of is that after the initial swarm of mall patrons rushing the exits, the courtesy of everyone there and the courtesy of the drivers trying to get out of the mall was atypical of Marylander's drivers, they allowed people out, I heard minimal honking and I think everyone knew that once they got to their cars, they were safe. I have my theories on why the shooter did what he did and I will probably be proven right or slightly wrong but honestly, this really pisses me off that we had to go through this and that I have to explain this crap to my daughter who I was hoping would not be exposed to something of this nature for another couple of years. I just have to teach her well and help her understand what happened in a adult to child way. That's the take away I guess.
  5. is anyone surprised at the not guilty verdict? And here comes the civil trial. This will be a completely different story.
  6. Actually, my wife is very very uneasy about my license lapsing, so I have decided to go ahead and get the required number of CEU's completed (150 hours in missouri), ACLS, PALS, ITLS, and CPR and turn those in. The state of missouri has a grace period of 2 years before I have to go ahead and retake multiple courses. She wants me to have a fall back in case something were to happen and I were to need to get back into EMS. Not sure what that "something is" but I'm going to appease her and get those hours over the next couple of months. My employer (University of Maryland - Medical system) will pay for my ACLS, PALS, ITLS and CPR classes I'm still retired from EMS but my spousal unit wants me to get the license back. Until I move back to missouri from Maryland, I'm not planning on working in EMS.
  7. Theres got to be a way to cryogenically store crap, I mean we store peas and carrots, why not have a frozen crap bank.
  8. ok, now before anyone gets all up in arms(re: butthurt), remember this is a satire website that this was pulled from. There are some here that don't have P_instructors or My sense of humore.
  9. Shamanwolf www.ems-ce.com get one of their packages, the national registry one should do and pay for it. Then take the courses and Bam, you have your hours. You can get unlimited hours for 100 bucks.
  10. Hell yeah, My rent is due in two weeks and it's going to take an entire paycheck to pay it. I mean why not get paid to crap in a bucket? I'd take 15 bucks a crap. Mari, please don't think I'm making light of your situation because I'm not. I'm in total admiration of the crap donater. I'm honestly thinking about talking to my doctor then next time I see him.
  11. Depends on how you word it To me it was my profession but also my occupation. My chosen profession but my occupation (job).
  12. Is there money to.be made doing this? Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  13. Plus, look at his troponin, he's also had an MI. This guys screwed and you are getting ready to transport a train wreck that is only going to get worse and probably end up as a massive chemical spill as well. Any chance to discuss air transport on this guy unless your transport time is much shorter than the air time?
  14. My God someone got Butt hurt over our comments. Is this the kind of person that the Army is putting out? (or was that too personal?) But here is what you asked for reference I'm posting this in hopes that someone can help me find an answer key for the AMLS PRE test You said you asked for a simple yes or no answer but I took it as you were looking for someone who could find you THE answer key to the AMLS pre-test - so I'll answer your question YES indeedee, I sure can find you the answer key to that precious pre-test, as a matter of fact, I just talked to a AMLS instructor and I have the pre-test and the answer key in front of me on my desk. It's might just be the same answer key as the one I found on the internet which you said you already found. So why are you so upset? You did ask for someone to find you the answer key, well I found it, where do you want it?
  15. This sure saved my mothers best friend.
  16. Yes, just like the One ring in Lord of the Rings. One ring to rule them all, one ring to take all tests, one ring to become Smeagle, my precious.
  17. copyright infringement, copyright infringement I'm tellin
  18. How can the answers be proprietary when the answers are simply 1. A 2. B 3. c 4. d 5 e etc etc etc?????
  19. Just do what Captain Ron said to do in the movie Captain Ron "If you get lost, just pull in somewhere and ask fer directions" Chris, you are one of the smartest guys I know, ways above smarter than I, and I have full confidence in your abilities to overcome this recent setback.
  20. Greetings Outlander. Tell us more about yourself and what your user name means.
  21. Yes, my mothers best friend got a fecal transplant and it did wonders for her. She was deathly ill until that transplant. Who'd have thunk that a fecal transplant could do what it can do?????
  22. Dammit Mike, I thought that at least he'd want correct answers? I mean, if he's asking us for help.......... I know exactly where to find his request, but I'm not going to give him the right answer until he ponies up some more information such as how long he's been searching and whether or not he's really done his searching for the information or if he's like many others here and expect us to do the homework. If he was at the right place at the right time, I had the link to the right answer posted here but I got a PM saying that I was giving up the answer too easily.
  23. So where have you looked for this elusive answer key? Have you gone to your instructor and asked for the answer key? Did you go to whoever gave you the pre-test and see if they would give you the answer key? You weren't clear as to whether you went those routes yet. How hard have you been looking for the pre-test answer key?????
  24. Flight is one of the most dangerous career choices you can choose. Kudos to those that fly but I used to recommend top flight medics to go that route but with several of my friends dying in air ambulance crashes, I no longer recommend this career choice.
