  1. I always tell them this "Think of the worst thing that can happen to your kids and consider that my worst call"
  2. Are you specifically wanting emt's only or paramedics as well?
  3. Island, the jumping wasn't directed to you, believe that. What I was referencing is one report where the fire apparatus the guy was driving was actually reported to be on the other side of the road and not protecting anyone. Other outlets are saying that this firefighter started the ruckus by making a scene and refusing to even discuss things with the officer and when the officer tried to talk to him he walked away. I'll have to try to find those articles but I might not be able to. What should have happened is that they should have finished up the scene, then the trooper and his supervisor should have gone to the fire house and discussed this with all involved. But that didn't happen. If yo watch the video, or one of them, look at the firefighter, he's loudly saying "Look, he's putting the cuff's on me" or something to that effect thus escalating the situation to a level that should not have gotten to that level. I'll be the first to chastise the trooper but it seems that we need to look at both sides before we go after one or the other becuase I think that both sides handled this badly. And Island, for what it's worth, I never thought you were jumping on either one of them, I am just seeing all over facebook and the other sites I visit that they are soundly slamming the trooper and not holding the firefighter responsible for his actions which were immature as well.
  4. Let me ask you this, what have they asked you to do skill wise and care wise? That should have been the first question that we should have asked.
  5. Before we pass judgement on this officer, there is more to this story(As there ALWAYS IS). From what I'm reading, this firefighter parked the apparatus in an area where it shouldn't have been. The fire department is making a big deal out of this. The firefighter from what I've read made a HUGE deal out of this. I'll have to dig up the news reports but the fire fighter was also in the wrong so let's not all jump down the officers case because the firefighter was partly in the wrong here as well. It could have been handled better on both ends.

But B Robbins- I have two pairs of EMS pants size I think 44 waist and 32 length. ONe black and one blue. 7 pocket I think or might be 5 pocket. Still in great shape. I'll sell em for 25 per pair and whatever shipping costs.
  9. My biggest piece of advice, don't go beyond your scope of practice as an EMT.
  10. I don't see how it will save time either unless they are going to be able to do it all in that one ambulance from CT to final intervention.
  11. You know I fell on the ice this morning, I hurt my Butt pretty bad, had the ambulance called for me this am because I could barely get up and some foreign idiot called EMS, They wanted to fully immobilized me because they said I had a distracting injury of butt pain and they couldn't rule out a spinal injury.
  12. I remember in the movie with Val Kilmer where he was the Genius and he was sitting under the fridge and the frozen whatchamacallit dropped out and he had his epiphany, not sure of the movie but it was one of my favorites. Or In Indpendence Day when Jeff Goldblum figured out to give the aliens the common cold.
  13. File Name: Glucagon and Cardiac Arrest File Submitter: Ruffmeister Paramedic File Submitted: 04 Feb 2014 File Category: Cardiac A Promising study. Click here to download this file
  14. Well Hellfire, I'm not asking for freebies. I'm just asking for the world. Ok, ERDoc, it appears that with my access at the university of maryland, I do have access to the full article. So for the scholars among us, how do I go about posting the entire write up without screwing up Admins legal rights? I want to do this right and not get him in any hot water again. guidance please. Thanks
  15. I did not have access to the full text of the study for two reasons, I don't think i have access on a membership level and I just didn't have the time to go try to get the article. Maybe ERDoc does. Or maybe ParamedicMike does.
  16. Yeah, duly noted, but they sure took journalistic license when they said it was the 'worlds first" which is NOT true.
  17. This study looks promising adding Glucagon to adrenaline in Cardiac arrest but the results were good. http://www.ajemjournal.com/article/S0735-6757(13)00701-8/abstract?elsca1=etoc&elsca2=email&elsca3=0735-6757_201402_32_2&elsca4=emergency_medicine Who knows if this will become a standard in 5-10 years down the road. Abstract Objective Cardiac arrest is a daunting medical emergency. The aim of the present study was to assess whether the combination of adrenaline and glucagon would improve initial resuscitation success, 48-hour survival, and neurologic outcome compared with adrenaline alone in a porcine model of ventricular fibrillation. Methods Ventricular fibrillation was induced in 20 healthy Landrace/Large White piglets, which were subsequently left untreated for 8 minutes. The animals were randomized to receive adrenaline alone (n = 10, group C) and adrenaline plus glucagon (n = 10, group G). All animals were resuscitated according to the 2010 European Resuscitation Council guidelines. Hemodynamic variables were measured before arrest, during arrest and resuscitation, and during the first 60 minutes after return of spontaneous circulation. Survival and a neurologic alertness score were measured at 48 hours after return of spontaneous circulation. Results Return of spontaneous circulation was achieved in 8 animals (80%) from group C and 10 animals (100%) from group G (P = .198). A significant gradual increase in coronary perfusion pressure and diastolic aortic pressure over time, which started 1 minute after the onset of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, was observed. Three animals (30%) from group C and 9 animals (90%) from group G survived after 48 hours (P = .006), whereas neurologic examination was significantly better in the animals of group G (P < .001). Conclusions In this porcine model of prolonged ventricular fibrillation, the addition of glucagon to adrenaline improves hemodynamics during resuscitation and early postresuscitation period and may increase survival.
  18. I clicked on the link to the white papers in your post Rid and I got a link to Amazon for Cigarette rolling papers. HooRah!!!!
  19. And they are letting her retire, no discipline no issues, just letting her ride off into the sunset. That's one way to get rid of the trash I guess. But she cannot and will not get away from the lawsuit that will be filed.
  20. Riblett, you need to secure the advice of a competent HR specialist as well. The reason I say this is that they will know the ins and outs of this type of thing and they've seen it time and time again. They will know what is and is not acceptable for you or your service to do in regards to making this person do.
  21. well for now, yeah but ask me after I get my missouri back, I'll probably just stick with my missouri because we are more than likely just going to move back to missouri.
