  1. I believe that ERDoc burned Kiwi the other day in a different thread.
  2. temper temper, that's the first thing to go, patience. So do you still like the GPS or are you feeling your age when you have to get out of your car to walk to the Cache???? But seriously, I got the check. I'm glad you are enjoying in the GPS.
  3. If the shoe fits, might as well throw it!
  4. Come on, all the hero's out there who want to whip out there super shears will be disappointed to realize this.
  5. Richard, I have found that the older i get the less I want to see my old highschool friends. The less I want to even connect with previous work friends. I also find that unless the current Mrs. R is ok with me contacting previous Girlfriends, then that issue is closed and I just don't. I have and it was a mess. But I suspect that you have a pretty solid relationship so just be careful, you never know what kind of feelings meeting this person after all these years will dredge up. I also look at it this way - there is and was a reason why you are not with this person nor why you got married. Sometimes it's best to leave it be. But it will always be your choice.
  6. That stands to reason Richard. But now with DVR and pausing live tv, you really don't have the excuse of holding it till you burst.
  7. Great article Mike. My thoughts of why the physicians participated is that they were threatened by the police with arrest and prosecution if they didn't do what they were told like good little boys and girls. I truly believe that is what happened to compel the physicians to do what they did.
  8. I think I remember some of the answers to your question. See my answers in Red. This is only my recollection so I'm not sure where I heard it but it was from other news sources.
  9. Read the first part of the article - it's about the guy who was cavity searched and charged for the colonoscopy all under the guise of a search warrant obtained because the police thought he had narcotics in his ass. We've all read the case but I'm including it for reference in a link below. Would you have participated in this particular search and "seizure" or would you have refused? Would you have followed the lead of the first doctor who said it was unethical or would you have followed the search warrant and done what the police told you to do? Here's the article. There are more than one part to this but the only part relevant to the discussion is the first part. The rest focuses on other areas of law enforcement. http://watchdog.org/116683/nm-civil-liberties-2/
  10. Here is an article http://www.epmonthly.com/features/current-features/the-true-cost-of-ambulance-diversion-/ that shows some pretty telling statistics regarding EMS diversions by hospitals. Read the article and discuss.
  11. Yeah, when the chiefs were playing each Sunday, Our ER was dead all but for the die hard sick patients and the ones who just didn't have cable or a tv, or the ones who couldn't live without their weekly refills of their pain pills. But within an hour or so of the game ending, they were coming in the ER with complaints ranging, well you guys know the range.
  12. Welcome from a fellow marylander(transplanted by job).
  13. Am I the only one who thinks that the Twinkie should have stayed dead and out of circulation? I think the new twinkie is not as good as the old ones.
  14. I have to do relaxation exercises before I let those evil dental people anywhere near my mouth with those medieval pikes of pain that they use to scrape off the tartar. I can just feel them removing the top layer of skin from my gums.
  15. There's several bay areas. Do you mean the bay area of Baltimore or San Fran? Or Tampa Bay? Or the Bay of pigs???? ha ha ha ha just kidding. I'm assuming San Fran.
  16. Yeah, I had a male who identified as female, it took me a couple of times identifying him has HIM and then finally converted for this patients request. talked to that patient like he was a she for the rest of the ER visit. When you can do that for a patient, it provides them with the respect that they ask for. I got a glowing thank you card and a Press Gainey Patient satisfaction survey that blew our Risk management and quality people out of the water. All for just the little act of my preserving the dignity of a traveller who suffered a migraine headache and decided to stop by our small ER in our small town.
  17. You said it sister, I heard that we got our asses sued off but I was never called to court for it. I'm sure the hospital settled as well as the physician did to. That was 20 years ago.
  18. Batman and Robin called and they said "Leave the heroics to the professionals and the kid with Leukemia that we recently worked with in California, you have enough to worry about trying to impress the kids"
  19. Ok, let me give you a further challenge. I had two patients. Exact same presentation. I'll give you the LP results massive headache, nuchal rigidity, fever, photophobia, writhing on the bed. These two guys were the same age, same demographics. They both had the same exact history. one came into the ER on a Sunday let's say and the other came in 3 days later. Both attended the same dinner on Saturday night. One presented one day after the dinner the other presented 4 days after the dinner. We LP'd the first guy and yep, his spinal fluid was milky white, he was treated for menigitis and myself and the three other providers were treated for exposure since the spinal fluid was so freaking positive for it. He eventually went on to make a complete recovery. Second guy not so lucky, Our CT scanner was broken. We did an LP on him, now remember, this guy presented with the EXACT same symptoms as MR Meningitis did on Sunday night.. Well his spinal fluid came back bright red blood and actually spurted out of the tube that we put on the LP to check the pressure gradient. He quickly went from writhing on the bed to a quivering mass of a seizing patient who very soon passed away and on autopsy it was found that he herniated his brain due to a major brain bleed. We just hastened his death by allowing the bleed to get worse. Again, exact same symptoms, yet different outcomes. The physician was confident that this was meningitis due to the two men being at the same dinner and being exposed to each other as they were friends.
  20. Just what the heck does this mean????? What I find is when a girl is in need of releasing my fluid intake (lol) my uniform belt slips out from under the duty belt and keepers and I have to rethread my pant belt back into and under the duty belt and keepers If you are male, just who is releasing your belt?
  21. This time in Florida http://fox4kc.com/2013/11/20/two-dead-two-missing-after-air-ambulance-crashes-off-florida-coast/ Do we need to keep reading about these before the FAA gets involved? What's our body count now? I no longer will recommend HEMS as a line of work to any of my friends or EMS colleagues because it's just too DAMN Dangerous and the Risks outweigh the benefits in almost every single flight.
  22. You did something like that too? I loved to mess with the oncoming crew, I would always take just one alcohol wipe out and see if they caught it. Or I set up my own IV set up kit, full IV start kit and wrapped a tourniquet around it, then put it on the bench seat, it had all I needed. The oncoming crew would see the extra items and they would put in the checklist that there were extra items. Drove the crews bonkers that there was extra stuff, especially a couple of the aNAL medics. They said it affected patient care if there was too few or too many alcohol wipes or too many iv catheters. I just laughed at them. If patient care suffered because of one too few alcohol wipes then they were using too many freaking alcohol wipes. Anywho, I do like the seal idea, I check the compartment and if it's fully stocked, I put a seal on.
  23. Just leave it to the news media to report what makes the story look the most sensationalistic.
